He is scheduled for an MRI on the 11th of this month.
Several messages like the one below have been posted on his page, along with a Paypal account to help with his medical expenses.
"James Murphy A metal guitarist/producing legend is racking up the medical expenses, due to a relapsing brain tumor. I know how bad medical expenses can be in this great country of ours so please help out by donating via paypal to email@example.com. Every little bit helps, whether it be 50 cents or a dollar, or more. Oh, and you can purchase these sweet CKY vinyls from Mr. Deron Miller, and all proceeds will go to help out James. Thanks"

After eight studio albums in fifteen years and over 600 live shows, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter is presenting the band's first official best-of collection, "The Greatest of the Best." The release contains liner notes for each album, a complete history timeline, all lyrics, guitar tabs on selected songs, rare and brand new photos and of course the 20 best Reitersongs of all time. "The Greatest of the Best" is set for release on November 18th, 2011.
Commented by the band: “The youngest Rider fans were not even born when the debut album was released, so we can use the words 'cross-generational,' now. Who would have ever thought? Die Apokalyptischen Reiter would like to thank their audience with this CD, especially for their passion and loyalty. With over 100 songs, it was not easy to select the 20 best.
"So the band has searched their archives, set lists and guest books of the past, to find out the songs that have moved most. Musical boundaries and limits have never been subject to the selection on The Greatest of the Best. Packaging and the booklet could not be more opulent, the seaman yarn of the liner notes will even die-hard fans let their knees tremble. Rare and brand-new photos, an elaborate cover like for production as a studio album. The Greatest of the Best is a jewel.”

California death metal trio Dreaming Dead is readying to unleash a new full-length entitled "Midnightmares." The follow-up to the 2009 "Within One" opus was recorded from June through September of this year. All guitars and bass were tracked at the band’s own studio in downtown Los Angeles, while the drums and vocals were tracked at Architeuthis Sound, (where "Midnightmares" was also mixed). As an added bonus, "Midnightmares" features cover art by renowned metal artist Travis Smith, known for his striking work on records from Death, Sadus, Katatonia, Opeth, King Diamond and so many others. The artwork can be viewed below.
Commented Schall and Mike Caffell (drums, vocals), of the release: “With Midnightmares, we wanted to record an album based around the concepts of night and, obviously, nightmares. We shaped our lyrics as such, and wrote music to capture both the violent, chaotic nature of dreams and the quiet tranquility of the night. We also crafted the album to flow as a whole, symbolizing the progression of an evening into night, and then into dawn; as if the songs couldn’t exist without one another. And, yes, we’re still bringing the speed and brutality.”
The track listing is as follows:
2. Corpse Mountain
5. In Memoriam
7. Into The Depths

U.K. metal act Conspires To... has issued the following update about writing lyrics for the band's upcoming second album:
"We are progressing nicely with album number 2 at the moment and have reached that stage where my attention is turning to the writing of the lyrics. Now generally at this point my listening habits vary, away from Carcass, Amon Amarth and the other brutal metal bands that I enjoy deeply, but really have no idea of what they are going on about (guess probably vikings for the latter!), to more articulate artists with something (or in some cases nothing) to say. This time around my selection has led me to give the subject of swearing in music some pondering. The questions being, is it Essential? is it necessary? should I be writing it? is it offensive?
"I will dismiss the last question out of hand, as I think for a genre of music that has given us Slayer, GWAR and Cannibal Corpse, it goes with the territory, and in fact even the tamest of metal bands are probably going to offend at least a small collection of puritans at least once! Case closed.
"So, what listen pleasure sparked the debate in my head? It all started when I bought a copy of Limp Bizkit's Gold Cobra CD (cheap) at Bangalore airport. Musically OK, not their best, but it did not take me too long to get utterly fed up with Fred Durst's swearing (and utter gibberish), there seemed to be no point to it other than to try to be big and clever.....of which it is neither! At this point I felt justified in not having included any swearing in any of our songs so far. I stood on the moral high ground and peered down onto the top of Mr Durst's red cap. More...

Each year the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame releases their nominations and each year (except 2009) this band has not been nominated. This is not a new story, but is an annual migraine once you review the bands elected IN and those that have NOT been elected (or even nominated). MANY rock bands deserve to be in today, but I don’t believe any band has a more solid case. This band has become the Pete Rose of rock and roll minus the gambling. Author Disclaimer: I am a casual fan at best of this band. More...
