Wayfarer Signs With Century Media

Denver-based Black Metal outfit Wayfarer has announced that they've signed with Century Media Records! The band brings together trappings of black metal with the Americana stylings of the rugged West. In celebration of the signing, Century Media has re-released the band's two albums, "A Romance With Violence" and "World's Blood" on all major digital platforms, with physical re-releases scheduled for next summer (2022)

Speaking on their signing with CM, Wayfarer remarks:

"We are deeply excited to have Wayfarer joining forces with Century Media. As fans of music as well as musicians, all of us came up from a formative age listening to so many seminal releases from artists in their stable. We are honored to have a chance to contribute back to this well, and for this next chapter exploring the furthest frontiers of our own sound - Black Metal of the American West."

Philipp Schulte, Director and Chief A&R of Century Media comments on the signing as follows:

"No other band sounds like Wayfarer. Merging atmospheric black metal and the dramatics of bands like Ulver and Bathory with Americana sounds reveals a level of originality that is second to none. Working with Wayfarer underlines the label’s commitment to strike new paths. We are honored and very excited welcoming Wayfarer to Century Media Records."

Darkwoods My Betrothed Shares New Lyric Video

After the black/epic metal pioneers Darkwoods My Betrothed reemerged from the depths of doom after a 23-year dormancy with their first single "In Evil, Sickness And In Grief" off the upcoming album, "Angel Of Carnage Unleashed" (out November 12, 2021 via Napalm Records), the Finnish foursome takes it up a notch with their thrilling second single, "Murktide And Midnight Sun!"

The original line-up of Darkwoods My Betrothed has rejoined forces, now augmented by Tuomas Holopainen as a full member of the band and Kai Hahto (both of Nightwish) as session drummer. "Murktide And Midnight Sun" showcases the epic, folk and Viking elements that are characteristic of the band’s sound. With a blend of Pasi Kankkunen's clean warrior vocals, majestic choirs, heavy guitar riffs and Kai Hahto’s pounding drums, Darkwoods My Betrothed present a hymn of true black epic metal!

Darkwoods My Betrothed on their new single:
"It was very important for us when choosing the singles off the new album to demonstrate the versatility of our sound: how we can put forward a blasting black metal carnage with tortured shrieks and follow that up with an epic anthem with clean vocals – and the two songs definitely sound like the same band. Epic songs and clean vocals have always been part of our trademark sound and “Murktide and Midnight Sun” is absolutely one of the finest and catchiest epic anthems that we have recorded." More...

Judas Priest Guitarist Issues Health Update

Following his recent health scare, which required a ten hour emergency surgery, Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner has checked in to update fans on what exactly happened to him, his recovery and gratitude for so many well wishes. His statement reads as follows:

"I’ve always been grateful for the opportunities I’ve been presented with. I’ve always considered myself THE most fortunate man ever - to be able to play my favourite music - with my favourite band - to my favourite people around the world…

"Today just being able to type this to you all is the biggest gift of all…

"As I watch footage from the Louder Than Life Festival in Kentucky, I can see in my face the confusion and anguish I was feeling whilst playing ‘Painkiller’ as my aorta ruptured and started to spill blood into my chest cavity….

"I was having what my doctor called an aortic aneurysm and complete aortic dissection.

"From what I’ve been told by my surgeon, people with this don’t usually make it to the hospital alive…..

"I was taken to nearby Rudd Heart & Lung Center and quickly went into what turned out to be a 10 ½ hour emergency open heart surgery.

"Five parts of my chest were replaced with mechanical components…..I’m literally made of metal now…. More...

Illudium Founder Discusses California And COVID

When one thinks of California, images of sunshine, surfing and celebrities immediately spring to mind. But this sprawling area of the United States has much more to it than the Hollywood cliches. It contains some of the most lush forestry in the country, the staggering height of Mount Whitney, vast lakes and of course, the Mojave desert, which all come together to create a contiously interesting landscape and climates. Music has always been a big part of California's history too, be it the surf rock of the Beach Boys or the Bay Area thrash metal scene, but perhaps no one has captured the spirit and soul of the state more genuinely than Illudium.

Beginning life in 2011 as a solo project of Shantel Amundson, Illudium released its first album, "Septem" in 2016 and now, five years later, the world is being treated to a second helping from the Santa Cruz native. This new album, "Ash Of The Womb," encapsulates the true spirit of California, from its known beauty to its turbulent relationship with mother nature and is set to be released through Prophecy Productions on October 15th. To find out more about the album, we caught up with Shantel Amundson and discussed everything from the title to how she recorded her vocals while battling the COVID-19 virus to the deep seated love and pride she takes in California. You can watch the interview in full below.

Diamond Oz: The new album, "Ash Of The Womb" is out on the 15th of October. What can you tell me about the title? It’s a very interesting title, very dark and evocative. For you, what does the album title mean?

Shantel Amundson: You know, it’s hard for me to go into great depth about it because it is a very personal title, in terms of the choice. The elements of the album is something that I feel people can relate to without me having to go into my own personal depth as to what it means to me. But it’s basically meshing together these two elements that people don’t often relate to one another, which is death and birth and also, death within birth. There’s some other environmental aspects that are going along with the album thematically, but that’s basically the choice of the title for me personally, embodying that idea.

Oz: Is it important to you to have that mystery when it comes to your album titles and lyrics?

Shantel: Yes, it is. For the time being, yeah. It’s just a personal decision. I think that overall this album has a lot to do with the personal and collective experience, for me, of just living in California for the past four years and everything that’s happening, on all levels, with the world right now.
