Taintstick has retracted their challenge to country singer Tim McGraw after the group called for his retirement in a recent press release. The band has issued the following statement:
“Due to a small misunderstanding over when ‘Southern Voice’ comes out, it has been pointed out that the release of 'Six Pounds of Sound' does not coincide with the new Tim McGraw album. Therefore, Taintstick withdraws its offer to do battle with the country living legend. We have nothing but love for Tim McGraw, even though the bald guys in our band aren't trying to fool anybody with a cowboy hat.”
Given that Taintstick’s debut album “Six Pounds of Sound” is due for an October 27th release through Suburban Noize Records, the band has issued the following open letter to rock icon Sting:
“Taintstick have come to understand that not only did The Police break up, but you have yet another solo album coming out on October 27th. We have furthermore been led to believe it is a Christmas album. Really, Dude? You’ve already sold 100 MILLION ALBUMS. What’s a couple of carols on top of that? You’re in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Well deserved, we say, but once you’re in the hall of anything, doesn’t that mean it’s time to gracefully hang it up?
“Sting, we’re sure you understand the feeling. You were there once, and now Taintstick are coming in hot, and we are ready to go big. We therefore challenge you to a duel; winner take all. ‘Six Pounds of Sound’ vs. ‘If On a Winter’s Night’. If you sell more, we bow to the tantric master, but if we sell more…well, you start spending more quality time hanging out in some of those well-earned castles of yours.
“Looking forward to hearing from you,
Taintstick is currently awaiting a response from Sting’s camp, while they prepare for the release their debut album, "6 Pounds of Sound." The group recently announced they have recruited Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden to handle bass duties for their upcoming World Tour.

Renowned for their status as agents provocateur of the underground hard rock and industrial metal scenes, the Genitorturers return with the November 3rd release of "Blackheart Revolution" [G-Force/MVD Entertainment]. “We wanted to make a big rock record that translates the same excitement I felt when I heard AC/DC’s Highway to Hell for the first time, combined with the dark intrigue of Alice Cooper’s Welcome to My Nightmare,” says Gen of the new release. “We wanted something that shakes the walls, grabs you by the balls, and scares you a bit in the process!”
The lead single from Blackheart Revolution, “Cum Junkie,” is currently available via digital release, as well as in limited-edition, 7-inch vinyl. It was filmed in our dank hole of a jam space, which we felt was perfect for the shoot to show who SJL is and what we're all about it. We wanted the video to showcase how the live experience with SJL is, shooting in a place we're all too familiar with. It was filmed over the course of 3 days with our good friend Mike Molloy from Static Studios here in Toronto. Mike's input on this video was invaluable and we're stoked to release it. Enjoy!”

Solstafir has issued the following recap of their recent tour dates:
"Day Off: We arrived in a camping site somewhere in Germany at around midday. The sun was shining and the weather was nice. I really wanted to go for a walk and take some photos, but first I had to sort a few things out over the internet for my studies. As I was about to buy some internet access with my other card I noticed it was gone too! Fucking great! I had lost both my cards in Hamburg! I spent the day finding a way to access the internet and then sorting out some of these credit cards problems, like having my cards cancelled, while everyone else was having a good day. When I had finished the sun was already setting, so no nice walk taking photos for me. I went to bed frustrated, not even affording to buy dinner ‘cause I spent my last money on buying the internet access. Not the way I wanted to spend the day. We also got the news that Köld was totally sold out and out of print everywhere. We had already sold our last copies before the Paris gig, so we were hoping to get some more. The only good thing that day was that I found my ipod.
"Stuttgart: Stuttgart was another good gig for us, despite Addi feeling really ill before the show and not being sure if he was up for the job. The place was fairly packed and the reaction of the audience really good. Afterwards we even met a girl with a Sólstafir tattoo on her arm. The first fan tattoo we’ve seen. After the gig we also got the good news that our back drop that we had lost had been found in Oberhausen and will be sent to us later on the tour.
"Setlist: Intro (Náttfari), Köld, Pale Rider, Ritual of Fire More...

"We (Amoral) are about to leave to Berlin this Wednesday, where the 'Forging Europe tour' will start. The lineup consists of Amorphis (the headliner), Before the Dawn and us. We know most of the guys from both bands from previous gigs together, so we know how cool the company is gonna be on this tour. Last friday was the 'warm up' show at Nosturi, Helsinki, where we met the bands and crew, went through the backline and kicked off the tour in front of a sold out audience. In other words, a killer start to a killer tour!
"We'll be updating this blog from the road as often as possible, with thoughts, comments and random bs, as well as pictures from around Europe. So keep checking back every few days to see if the boyz are still alive..."

"Right ... massive apology to everyone thats been out and tried to find our CD today but theres been a huge fuck-up that was well out of our control which has meant that the release date has now been moved to the 26th! There's so many elements that go into releasing a CD (way more than we'd ever even imagined) and it only takes a minor set-back to fuck everything up as we've found out today.
"This CD has caused a lot of people a lot of stress (and has even cost one person his job so I'm told) so a massive apology goes out to everyone that's been trying to get hold of it today and a massive thank you to all the people that have been working their arses off to resolve this. I promise you that it will be worth it though when it finally comes out on the 26th ..... SORRY and thanks for your patience!"
Sweden's Scarpoint has issued the following studio recording update:

"So today Jocke started mixing the songs with our viewpoint in mind. He will be alone for a couple of days and then we..ll meet up and we..ll start dicussing the latest mix. It..s always sooo awarding when you come to this point when all the music is done and you get a whole picture of the album.

Electro rockers POWERMAN 5000’s new album, "Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere," is hitting stores this week. The collection finds the band returning to the hard groove of their earlier work, which included hits like “When Worlds Collide” and “Nobody’s Real.” “We made this record with a clear vision and a purpose,” explains frontman, Spider. “We wanted to reclaim a sound we created and represent certain influences as only a band like Powerman 5000 can. While writing, we would watch ‘Godzilla’ or ‘Ultraman’ films to ensure the sonics were on point. We knew that this record needed to sound like the footsteps of a giant robot!”
"On the surface, this album is a big fun electro metal romp...though there are bigger concepts hidden within. A quote from HG Wells sums it up best, he said, ‘Man is the unnatural animal, the rebel child of nature.’ That is an ongoing theme in the songs, our inability to find a place in our own world. I couldn't be happier with the results. I finally feel like we have made a record that not only is exactly wanted we wanted it to be, but also a record that the fans are going to love!"
The band has released two singles from the new album so far, “Super Villain” and “V Is For Vampire,” and recently filmed a video for the latter with horror film director Robert Hall.
You can check out "Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere," in its entirety via the player below as well as on AOL Music.
Brazilian metallers Shadowside have issued the following tour report about their recent U.S. tour dates:
"September 18 - Indianapolis. Now this is a city that will always be in my heart. Don't kill me, I love all the cities I visit! But Indy represents the start for SHADOWSIDE in the U.S. It's the first place we ever played in North America. That was in September 2007, when we played Indianapolis Metal Fest. From that day on, we became supporters of the festival, no matter what happens, just like we became supporters of Flight of the Valkyries festival. Rob Mason from IMF and Nathan Block together with Bobbie Jeans from FoTV are people who helped us back then (and still do).
At first, we were scheduled to play in Kokomo, IN but it changed to Indianapolis and we had a chance to share the stage with Betrayed with a Kiss, Rob's band. They are VERY cool so make sure you check them out!
"It was a shame that we didn't get to hang out around Indianapolis as we got there quite late and had to head straight to the venue. Hopefully next time. However we sure felt welcome once again as our fans and friends from Indiana have been nothing but great from day one! We had lots of sound problems and it's very easy to lose focus when you can't hear yourself or even worse, when you know the sound isn't what it should be for people. Lucky for us, they were all extremely supportive and rocked the place with us so we could say "fuck it" and get on with the Metal madness! We had an awesome time with everyone and they sure made it clear to us that they were having FUN! More...

Polish death metallers Vader have issued the following statement about their new album "Necropolis" landing on the charts:
"VADER's brand new full length album is going very well in the States. 'Necropolis' sold around 1,130 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Note: Internet/digital sales **ARE** included in the SoundScan totals.) The CD landed at position No. 19 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. In other categories, the album got the 10th position in 'Current Hard Music Albums Core Stores', #76 in Indy/Small Chain Core Stores and #84 in 'Top Hard Music Albums'. It's a good result for the band that actually has never been promoted in the States. 'Necropolis' landed at position 5 in Polish OLiS (best selling albums). More sales results will follow soon.
"In other news, in the beginning of November VADER kicks off the 'Masters Of Death Tour 2009' covering the States and Canada. The band will be teaming up with acts such as Decrepit Birth, Warbringer, The Amenta, Augury and SwashBuckle. The tour will last till mid December. It's gonna be the band's first American tour under the wings of the new record label Nuclear Blast and booking agency First Row Talent. VADER will return to the US in April, May 2010 to appear on tour with OVERKILL. Another tour in March is currently in the negotiation phase. Panzer division will also invade South America. On January VADER together with MARDUK will destroy the Balkans. More details concerning the upcoming tours at this location."

California metallers Forbidden have issued the following announcement about streaming a new song titled "Hopenosis" at their MySpace page:
"It's time for another quick update. It's been just over a month since we released our new song, Adapt or Die, on our myspace page. The reaction was far beyond what we expected at the time. Honestly, we were kind of shocked to hear so much positive feedback. Of course we realize that just putting a song out after all of these years was going to get something going, but not that much. Wow! Thanks to the thousands of people that listened to the song and gave us your opinion. It's only motivated us even more. I guess the spirit of Bay Area Thrash is alive and well after all.
"Since then we've been writing a lot of new stuff on cruise control. It's getting better and we're having a lot of fun creating Forbidden's new music. It feels natural once again. Sometimes these things take a little while to get rolling in the right direction. I mean, it had been 13 years since we'd written a Forbidden song! I think our fans will really like what we're coming up with, it's defiantly pushing us. Russ, Mark, Steve, Matt and myself having a great fucking time!
"A lot of folks have been asking when the record is coming out. Well, first we must settle on a home for the band. That's correct, we have yet to sign or commit to any label. We are getting some offers, but we must be 100% satisfied that we're going to the label that fully believes and is committed to rebuilding Forbidden into a formidable force in today's market. There are still some very good labels out there, even in the climate of industry we now live in. It's just...different. But it is nice to be sought after once again. What I can tell you is that we're aiming to be ready to cut the new record by the beginning of the new year. Ultimately, we want it out by the beginning of the upcoming summer. Sometime before the Festival and Touring season begins. That's the plan we're aiming for! More...

Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am delving into the New Zealand metal scene.
While NZ's main metal export for some time has been either 8 Foot Sativa (melodic death meets groove metal) or Dawn of Azazel (brutal death metal), New Zealand has a number of other gems in the rough with a lot of local support. Even bigger names in the NZ metal community have a harder time translating local fans to recognition overseas because of the distant home base, so this is dedicated to all the southern legions.
