We post metal news every day, throughout the day, covering thousands of metal bands including underground and unsigned bands. You are currently browsing the news archive, but you can also find news by band.
37 news articles posted on this day.
Australian one-man band Germ is the creation of Tim Yatras, also known for his work with the now defunct-acts Austere and Grey Waters. A genre like depressive black metal is already about as underground as it gets, and would be considered completely bizarre to the average person who hasn't been exposed to extreme metal, but Germ takes things a step farther and dives head first into a fully avant-garde sound.
Germ was covered in the genre-blending and trend ignoring edition of our "Unearthing the Metal Underground" column earlier this year after the release of the "Wish" album. Now the project is set to release a follow-up EP titled "Loss" (review coming soon), which explores themes of betrayal and desperation while melding black metal with electronic elements, clean singing, and even a dash of pop. To see what the man behind the band had to say about the new EP, check out interview below. More...

"Russian slamming, groove oriented brutal Death Metal outfit Katalepsy is one of the most active and well known Russian bands in the genre today. Successful previous releases, extensive shows, touring & playing numerous fests supporting well know acts has really brought the band to another level. Their catchy, pit fueling, heavy as hell sound has since earned them fans from around the world who are highly anticipating the release of 'Autopsychosis.'
"In all, Katalepsy is a great example of perfectly executed American style slamming brutal Death Metal and is guaranteed to deliver to any fan of unrelenting music. "It is high time for us to give some news... and we are happy to announce that we are working on the follow-up of 'To the Void!' The composition process is still going on, and we have a lot of new exciting material!

"We'll dedicate a bigger part to clean and melodic singing, and we're playing with some more up-tempo metal riffs, analog synth sounds, darker atmospheres...
"Thanks for all the encouragements, expressions of enjoyment, and messages since the release of To the Void! More news to come as soon as possible."

Extreme metal warriors Hate have just finished recording their new opus entitled “Solarflesh.” The follow-up to “Erebos” (2010) will be released early next year via Napalm Records. The band’s front-man ATF Sinner comments:
“We have just done mixes and Mastering on the new material; our first album for Napalm Records. I believe 'Solarflesh' is the most insane and haunting record we’ve done thus far. It’s nothing but pure darkness…
"We’re extremely satisfied with this 61 minute monster (12 songs) that we’ve put to life. Now we’re working on a documentary about creation of 'Solarflesh,' its ideological sides, the band’s history, touring etc.
"It’s going to be much more than just a studio report. We want it to be an in-depth interview revealing some unknown facts, hidden meanings etc. I’m sure people will find it interesting”
More info on the upcoming album will be announced as it is made available in the near future.

Jeff Loomis is proud to reveal his brand new song "A Liar's Chain." The song was recorded with his touring lineup consisting of young talents Joe Nurre (guitar and vocals), Anup Sastry (drums), and Greg Macklin (bass). You can check out the song via Metal Hammer Germany or in the player below.
Jeff comments: "A Liar's Chain is the first of three songs that I recorded with my band to officially debut online. We started playing it live on our last US run and it seemed to go over really well with fans. I had so much fun recording 'Surrender' with Ihsahn on vocals for my last solo album that I wanted to do more songs like that. Joe Nurre, who has been playing guitar in my band for the last year or so, has a pretty killer death metal voice, so I thought it would be perfect to do some more stuff like this with him as well as the rest of the guys.
"I'm really looking forward to getting over to Europe again. I have so much fun there. The Euroblast tour and festival has some amazing musicians on it, which is going to be really special for me as well, as I love watching and hearing great bands play. We're going to be playing 'A Liar's Chain' as well as one other new song with Joe singing. I look forward to seeing everyone there."
Jeff Loomis' second solo album "Plains Of Oblivion" was released in April 2012 via Century Media Records. The album was produced by Aaron Smith (7 Horns 7 Eyes) and features cover artwork by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design. Right now Jeff Loomis is on his Australian Clinic Tour to present his new Schecter JLV7 signature guitar model (see dates below). Nightwish recently split with vocalist Annette Olzon and announced Floor Jansen would be covering for upcoming tour dates. Floor has now posted a statement online about her first days on tour via her blog:
"I am writing to you sitting here in the tour bus with Nightwish! We are heading to San Fransisco. The sun is shining bright here and the scenery is beautiful. I am trying to find words to describe how I feel but it’s impossible to really cover it. I am on a high!
"What do you do when Nightwish asks you to join them on tour? Stay calm and say, well OK….? Or does your heart start beating twice as fast instantly, hands start to sweat and your mouth is unwilling to pronounce words like 'that sounds amazing.' I guess I don’t need to tell what happened to me.
"The time to prepare was scarily short…I packed my bags and left and printed the lyrics into my head all the way over from Amsterdam to America. 15 hours of airplane later I arrived with a jetlag, a full head and the most happy feeling ever. The next day I jumped on board on this bus and the adventure truly began. I was welcomed into the group as an old friend and I felt great instantly. It is now 10 years ago I joined Nighwish on tour with After Forever as their support act. We stayed in touch ever since and that made the whole situation so much easier and smooth.
"The day of the first show we also did a long soundcheck to rehearse the songs. That was the only possibility… You cannot imagine how nervous I was before that first show started!!! Next to nerves my voice was battered by a cold due to all the travels, lack of sleep and airco’s.
"The intro started…..I ran on stage….and all nerves were gone! The music and the guys took me in and so did the audience. What an experience! The excitement lasted the entire show, and way after. When I went to my tour bus bed that night I still had a smile on my face. I felt so happy and satisfied I fell asleep instantly. More...

Vocalist Anton Thorgeir Primak, founder and frontman of Ukrainian black metal band Balfor, has announced he has ceased cooperation with fellow band members Erland, Dooms, and Dragon-T. Thorgeir comments:
"Our ways parted as a result of different circumstances, we haven't worked together for a very long time. This decision was not easy, but it was necessary and considers the interests of all band members. Sometimes changes are necessary if you want to bring a new horizon. I want to thank the guys for all this time we worked together, it was great!
"Also I'd like to say for all our fans that Balfor's principles remain the same, I'm true to you and continue to work for you on a new album. See you soon and stay fucking metal!"

In the wake of the passing of Dogbane [Heaven and Hell Records] guitarist David Ellenburg the remaining band is hard at work carrying on as their fallen brother would have wanted.
Currently Dogbane is in the studio recording a cover of "Charisma" for an upcoming KISS tribute released through Versailles Records titled "Rock & Roll All Nite: A Tribute to Kiss: 1974 - 2013," to be released later this year or early 2013. And even though the track selected by the band is from the "Dynasty" album, don't expect disco. Be assured Dogbane will put its spin on the tune and make it their own.
"When I was in the third grade the "Book Fair" came to my school. I went without lunch for two days so I could save enough money to buy a paperback book called "Rock Stars" because it featured KISS. Additionally, KISS "Dynasty" was the first record I ever owned. They (KISS) were superheroes to me; collectively they were mightier than Godzilla, Ultra Man, Super Friends, and the Legion of Doom. It just doesn't get much cooler than that."
- Mitch Allred/Guitarist
"The year was 1977. I had a science teacher named Mr. Warner. He informed us on the first day of school that he was a born again Christian, and the wearing of KISS regalia in his classroom would not be tolerated. Mr. Warner stated 'from this day forward anyone caught doing so would be subject to a whipping' because this would be seen as being defiant. I wore my KISS jacket the very next day. I took that 'whipping' like a champ."
- Jerry Cloer/Drummer
"I began listening to KISS when I was 7 in 1974. My best friends' older brother loved them, and I remember him being my introduction to Sabbath, Cooper, Priest, etc. My parents wouldn't let me buy any of their albums. So, I would sneak the family tape recorder with me when I would spend the night with my friend and hold the microphone in front of the speaker to record the records. Worked okay for me, and hence some of the first pirated material in the making. So, there you go."
- Kevin Davis/Bass Guitar
"No other band has had more of an impact on my life than KISS. As a kid I remember listening to the KISS Alive album with my head between the speakers imagining myself being there at that show. Later as a teenager I got to see them live, and as an adult I had the privilege of meeting my childhood heroes in person. Both of these events made me feel like that kid with my head between the speakers. Any KISS fan will tell you KISS is more than a band it is a lifestyle."
- Jeff Neal/Vocalist
In addition; Steelwolf guitarist Warren Deatherage will be included in the recording as well as possible guest vocalist Jeremy Golden (Heaven and Hell Records owner) and Scott Board (NoLoveLost /Dimage/Cerebus).
