Grand Magus Begins Work On New Album

Swedish riff lords Grand Magus are currently working on the follow up to their highly acclaimed 2016 album Sword Songs. The band have already ensconced themselves at Sweetspot Studio in Sweden to kick off the recording process with producer Staffan Karlsson (Arch Enemy Firewind, Spiritual Beggars).

Singer/guitar player JB states:

"The Magus is back in the studio to record the ninth album. It’s been a very special process this time. We decided to let go of the current philosophy to record drums first and then bass and then guitar etc. This time we met up, jammed and created together during the last six months with the goal to record basic tracks live. That basically means the thing we do every time we play live. When we do that, we play together. It’s music after all, not a science project. This led us to use the studio you see in the video. We recorded take by take (usually first takes, haha) until the groove, feel and violence was right. Now we will start with the overdubs, solos and vocals. We are chuffed and we think you will be too. Metal victory!"

Check out the first studio trailer below and get more info about the recordings. More...

Slipknot Posts New Video Online

Iowa based nine piece Slipknot has posted a video online for a brand new song entitled, "All Out Life." You can check it out below. The song is expected to appear on the band's next studio album, which is scheduled to be released next year through Roadrunner Records, the title of which has not yet been revealed. To promote the album, the band will be headlining a string of European festivals next Summer, including the Download Festivals in Great Britain and Spain, Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium and Copenhell in Denmark.

Slipknot’s Corey Taylor explained, “’All Out Life’ is a song that is trying to do 2 things: bring everyone together, but also remind everyone that the past is not something to be discarded with disdain. People are so eager to find the Next Big Thing sometimes that they shit all over the bands and artists that have come before, thus making the past feel disposable, like a dirty thing. Fuck that: why should we pay attention to your mediocre future when you can’t be bothered to celebrate an amazing past? I’d rather listen to a guaranteed hit than a forced miss. ‘All Out Life’ is the anthem that reminds people that it’s not the date on the music- it’s the staying power.”

Having hinted in the press about the aggressive nature of the music coming out of the studio, Slipknot delivers “All Out Life” as a statement of intent. At a time when music and culture are becoming increasingly homogenized and the rough edges of creativity are purposely smoothed over, the aggression and message of “All Out Life” stands apart. Clown - aka M. Shawn Crahan - elaborated on the track: “Right now is a very exciting time for Slipknot. We’ve been working on new music for the last two years, and ‘All Out Life,’ the song and the video, is just one of many concepts in the works. It’s a fitting taste to get you to the next thing. Get ready for what’s to come. We challenge you to All Out Life.” More...
