The Helsinki vampires in gothic rock outfit The 69 Eyes have now released a tenth album, appropriately titled "X." In conjunction with the release, vocalist Jyrki 69 offered up an "interview with the vampire" moment for Metalunderground.com, sharing his dark wisdom when it comes to such matters as love and music.
In typically rock and roll fashion he stated, "To be in the band is still the most interesting way to meet girls and travel, but to make music that matters beats even that," and went on to explain how "X" revolves around breakups and the "evil beauty" of women. Below you can also find the front man's personal picks for Halloween viewing/listening material, and see what he had to say about the band's new graphic novel. More...

9:00am. For the first time since arriving, I wake up without a sore neck. In profound relief and gratitude, I kiss the small-but-soft pillow I managed to procure at Kik yesterday.
Before this, my strategy was simple: I’d rest my head on the stack of clean clothes in my open bag at the end of my tent. But as the days passed, the stack dwindled, until I felt like a neck injury victim tied to a crude, makeshift wooden stretcher.
There’s a preparation and packing lesson to be learned in there… somewhere. More...

Born of Osiris will cap off 2012 with a co-headlining tour alongside Unearth starting November 1st. The month-long trek also features The Contortionist, Obey The Brave, and Wolves At The Gate. The group is also close to completing the songwriting process for the follow-up to "The Discovery" album and will enter the studio in the spring with Nick Sampson to track the new effort.
Born of Osiris is excited to announce the band's return to Europe on February 22nd with After The Burial, Monuments, and The Haarp Machine. Details are available below.
Lee McKinney (guitars) states: “I would say the direction of this album is along the lines of The Discovery, but definitely a lot heavier and a lot more focused when it comes to song structure. We're trying to give each song a powerful, thematic feel. This next record takes all of the best aspects of The Discovery and develops the ideas even further. We already have so much material that we plan on revising and refining over the next few months. While we do that we will still continue to write more and in the end I think we'll pick the strongest 10-12 songs so we can drop the best Born Of Osiris record to date.
“On March 22nd we start recording the record with Nick Sampson. We're very excited to work with him in the studio. He's a shredder and aside from that a great engineer/producer. Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, Emmure) will be handling the mixing of the project. We felt he was the best for the job since we have a lot of electronic elements in our music and he seems to be the master of all that these days. Not to mention he obviously has insanely tight production and mixing skills. The disc is set for a summer release and we can't wait for everyone to see what we've created.
“In other news, we're heading out this week on our co-headliner with Unearth. It's such an honor to be able to bring them with us on tour. I remember being 16 delivering pizzas blasting The Oncoming Storm in my car. We've toured with them before a couple times as well and they are some of the most fun dudes to be on the road with. Also rounding out the tour is The Contortionist, Obey the Brave and Wolves at the Gate. People can expect to see our longest live set yet. We're playing songs off of The Discovery that we have yet to play on any other tours. Come hang with us!” More...

Vektor has issued the following announcement about missing tonight's previously scheduled tour date due to van problems:
"Attention Vermont: We are HUGELY sorry, but our van broke down on the way from Boston and our transmission is completely fried. Sadly this isn't something we can fix in a single day, and tonight's show with Exhumed in Winooski will have to go on without us.
"Again, we are really pissed off and upset about this turn of events but we are doing every single thing we can do to get back on the road for tomorrow's show in Montreal (we'll keep you posted).

Virus was formed in 2000 by guitarist / singer Carl-Michael “Czral” Eide (Aura Noir, Ulver, Satyricon, etc.) along with bass player Petter “Plenum” Berntsen (Audiopain) and drummer Einar “Einz” Sjursø (Lamented Souls, Beyond Dawn), with the intention of taking key elements of Czral’s former avant-garde black metal band Ved Buens Ende further into weirdness and farther from metal. Through three critically acclaimed album releases Czral’s unique dissonant guitar flavour and song writing has fascinated, puzzled, and ensnared listeners worldwide, not least thanks to the live performances (as a 5-piece) the band have undertaken since early 2011, including Sonisphere, Brutal Assault, Hole In The Sky, Aurora Infernalis etc.
Virus is also set to release a mini album to coincide with the tour. Titled “Oblivion Clock,” the album runs at over thirty minutes and features four new track and three bonus tracks that until now have only been available on extremely limited releases. At the same time band will also be releasing a new vinyl edition of sophomore album “The Black Flux.” “Oblivion Clock” will be available as a digifile CD on the tour, and is also already available to pre-order from this location along with the “Black Flux” vinyl. The album marks the band's seventh full length release and first since 2010's "Demons." Vocalist Tuomas Tuominen of Finnish act The Man-Eating Tree has issued the following statement online about missing an upcoming show:
"Our coming Friday's show at Caribia Metal Halloween, Turku, will be performed with some special arrangements in the vocal department. Special arrangements will be necessary, as I am at the moment tied to a situation in my immediate family, which requires no less than my full attention. This makes it impossible for me to travel out of town.
"Obviously for me, it is nerve wrecking to stay behind and miss out already a second opportunity to perform with The Man-Eating Tree before my home town audience and all my closest friends. Afterall, my years with Fall of the Leafe have built a weird sensation into me, an eerie feeling that that Turku is for my musical roots pretty much the equivalent of what Seattle is for grunge. I know I am a sentimental fool but this situation breaks my heart. I have waited so much for the chance to perform in Turku again.
"Nevertheless, the band has taken the decision to do their utmost to pull off the gig despite the circumstances. I hear my good friend Antti Karhu, who has now already for a long time taught me how to sing right, will be bearing the brunt of double tasking as both the guitar player and the vocalist. And I heard rumors he has hired beautiful and talented reinforcements too.
"I get comfort from knowing that even during my absence, the band will deliver, as always."
Inhale Exhale is debuting a new video for “Low” today through Metal Injection. Check out the video in the player below, or over at MetalInjeciton.net. A performance clip with a frozen tundra serving as the stage, the video is the first from the band’s fourth album, "Movement," released earlier this month on Red Cord Records.
“We picked ‘Low’ for first video because thematically it centered around the album title, about making choices and moving forward,” explains guitarist John LaRussa. “It’s not the heaviest song on the album, but we thought it hit hard and we loved the chorus on it.”
"The shooting process was pretty extreme,” LaRussa adds. “It was 11 hours of getting blasted with snow. It was centered a lot on performance and we definitely all felt it after the shoot.” More...
On March 12th, 2013, Swedish melodic metal maestros Soilwork will kick-off their world tour in North America – their first time headlining in this territory in almost three years. The 54-show trek through the U.S. and Canada will feature support from Jeff Loomis, Blackguard, The Browning, and Wretched.
“With [the new album] The Living Infinite nearing completion, all of us in Soilwork are excited to announce the first of many killer tours to come!” states drummer Dirk Verbeuren. “We can’t wait to take some of our new songs to the stage and with two CDs worth of material, picking a set list is gonna be interesting to say the least… We look forward to once again bringing you metal the Soilwork way!”
Soilwork has been toiling away and burning the midnight oil in the studio with producer Jens Bogren recording "The Living Infinite," the follow-up to 2010 release "The Panic Broadcast." "Thrash is not dead – and the youngsters of Lost Society are living proof of it! Founded in early 2010 by thrash/speed metal enthusiast Samy Elbanna in the Finnish town of Jyväskylä, the front man gathered an ensemble of passionate allies around him to establish a band that soon should become known as the most energetic newcomer combo Scandinavia had seen in years.
"After numerous gigs around Finland, bringing them great feedback for their extraordinarily strong stage presence, Lost Society decided to take part in the world-renowned GBOB (Global Battle Of the Bands). After they had won the preliminary decision round in their hometown, they were invited to the finals held in Helsinki, where they prevailed against 13 contesters and eventually came off victorious. The grand finals of GBOB 2012 will take place at The Scala in London on the 9th of December with 18 bands from all over the world – and Lost Society will be one of them!"
Nuclear Blast A&R Jaap Wagemaker also comments: “Nuclear Blast has a very long history when it comes to signing new bands from Finland and transforming them into household names. Once in a while a new band comes along that is so driven, energetic, powerful, enthusiastic, passionate and professional that you immediately see its potential to make the breakthrough. After we had seen Lost Society playing at the Global Battle Of the Bands, we knew that this is a combo of that kind! Lost Society have already recorded their debut album at the famous Sonic Pump Studios together with producer Nino Laurenne. The record is scheduled for a release via Nuclear Blast in spring 2013 and doubtlessly will be a real highlight for all fans of speed and thrash metal. The future belongs to Lost Society - welcome to the Nuclear family!” More...

Austrian symphonic metal act Serenity announced the departure of the band's founding member, keyboardist Mario Hirzinger. The band made several attempts at changing Hirzinger's mind, especially, in light of what has now been disclosed as his planned final performance at this year's ProgPower USA festival. Though the band cancelled some tour dates, 11 new dates in March of 2013 have been confirmed, though the cities and venues have not yet been disclosed. The statement on the band's Facebook Page reads:
"With great mourning we have to tell you all that our dear friend, keyboardist, song & lyrics writer as well as founder of SERENITY leaves the band as of now...
"We already knew his decision for quite some time and fully understand Marios wish for something new. Though we hoped to change his mind especially with such a great experience like PP USA, which was always planned as Marios last appearance with SERENITY. Well - we made him change his mind twice already - but not this time (more on that in his statement).
"The Departure of Mario is a fact now and as a result we've been reconstructing SERENITY throughout the year already. We also have fixed arrangements with Marios successor who will be announced at a later date.
"Mario, we honestly thank you for a great, never forgettable time, lots of cool and funny tour stories, lots of (great) work too,... We will see us for a drink or two ;-)

Instanzia vocalist/guitarist Alexis Woodbury posted an update on the band's recordings for the upcoming sophomore LP "Spinning Maze." In the official press release, Woodbury states:
"Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I didn’t post anything really relevant about the making of our second album which is titled 'Spinning Maze' so I thought I’d do it at the moment.
"First I can say that things are progressing slowly but surely! Since the beginning of May we got drums recorded, rhythm guitars, acoustic guitars and bass. I had to spend quite a while editing those tracks in between but don’t get me wrong; I’m not editing those tracks to reach an overly modern and edited sound. I just do that to ensure that everything fits correctly in the context of the songs and that nothing unwanted or crappy makes its way on the final print :D. I also put the final touch on all the synths and orchestrations with Marc-Éric Martel who helped a lot and programmed the virtual analog synth sounds and that took a while since those are taking more place in the songs now than they did on 'Ghosts' and also because 'Ghosts' was done over a period much longer than what we expect to spend making this one.
"At the moment I’m doing basic track comping, sorting out stuff and placing the piano tracks Mathieu Fiset recorded in the songs in order to have every instrument in place when I’ll get to the vocals. I plan on spending a few weeks practicing vocals, rewriting some lines and everything before moving on to recording all of the vocals and finally lead guitars and solos! That’ll also serve as a break from the non-stop Pro Tools work I’ve been doing, heheh. It’s still quite a long way since all those elements’ importance is paramount!
"I’ve also been figuring out who will participate in the big yummy choirs we intend to have on this album and I can say it’ll give pretty nice results!! We’ve also ensured Felipe Machado as our cover artist for the album. You guys all know the works he’s done for the likes of Rhapsody of Fire, Luca Turilli, Blind Guardian and way, way more! I think we can expect a totally kickass piece of art as our cover for this one!
"So that’s about it for now! I can tell you guys that this album won’t disappoint you! Feel free to ask any question regarding the album to the band except if you plan on asking us about a release date! I aim to have the album finished by April but nothing is guaranteed! We’ll keep you up to date at every step!
"Thanks a lot for your interest, stay up to date and spread the word!!! Rock on!"
Melodic metal warriors Thaurorod have been looking for a new singer, and now the search is over and the band is proud to announce the new singer will be Andi Kravljaca. Check out a video clip presenting the new vocalist below. Thaurorod comments:
"As you might know it hasn't been too easy for us with the previous vocalists. Facing a vocalist change is never easy and facing a lot of them is just something really hard for a band.
"We went through a lot of vocalist candidates and wanted to pick a guy who can really kill on stage and who is reliable and we can count on him to deliver his 110% input now and always. We wanted to find a guy who is not only our new vocalist but also our very last!
"We are so relieved to be able to announce our new vocalist finally! Ladies and gentlemen, the new frontman of Thaurorod is Andi Kravljaca! We made 2 shows with Andi in Finland warming up for Wintersun and everything felt amazing and we had so much fun together! He easily impressed the band and the audiences with his energetic performances on both shows...what a crazy dude on stage!"
Thaurorod will release a new album in 2013, with more info coming soon. More...
Indie Records has issued the following announcement about inking a new deal with Vreid:
"Indie Recordings is proud to announce the re-signing of Vreid and looks forward to release yet another masterpiece from this unique Black’n’Roll band! The new album is in progress and the band is currently in the studio working their magic. The new album is scheduled for release February 2013! Check out the studio report."
Vreid had this to say about the re-signing and the new album: “We have released 3 albums on Indie Recordings, and it has worked out tremendously. The band and label have grown together over these years, and we are very satisfied that we have now re-signed a new deal with Indie Recordings. 2 years after we started writing new riffs, our new beast is now complete. It’s been a lot of work, but we are utterly pleased with the result. Dark, heavy and Vreid are the 3 keywords to describe it. The artwork takes us in a new direction this time, and is done by the wizard Kim Holm. His work is spectacular and he has captured the music and lyrics beyond words. In February the new album will see the light of day, and we can’t wait to unleash it, and come out and play for you again." More...
German folk metal act Finsterforst posted an album preview for the band's forthcoming third full length LP "Rastlos." The album is scheduled for a November 23, 2012 release through Napalm Records. The five mighty and overlong songs present themselves as a sweeping diversity of melodies and moods. Finsterforst combines melancholic folklore, untamed black metal fury with majestic soundscapes, thus giving the songs a hypnotic dynamic. This particular effect is strengthened by the sophisticated and fitting use of authentic instruments like the accordion or a full horn section.
The track list for "Rastlos" is as follows:
1. Nichts als Asche
3. Am Scheideweg (Instrumental)
4. Stirbt Zuletzt
5. Ein Lichtschein
6. Rast (Instrumental)
