Esben And The Witch Streaming Full Album

Esben And The Witch is now streaming new dark ambient album "Older Terrors" online in full. "Older Terrors" is the band's third album, and first with Season of Mist, due for worldwide release on November 4th.

Regarding this release, the band states: "Our forthcoming album 'Older Terrors’ was written and recorded over the course of a year in Berlin, our adopted home. We've spent eight years getting here, sweating on stages, holed up in studios and exploring all that which inspires awe and terror.

"The album features four tracks. In this digital age of music we wanted to create a collection that worked together but could also be separated, each track standing alone, carving its own path and telling its own tale. This record is dedicated to the sublime. To Edward Young's Night Thoughts, John Martin's apocalyptic visions, Caspar David Friedrich's forays into the forest and to the sparks of light that glimmer in times of utter darkness.”

Produced by Ill Niño vocalist Cristian Machado, the 10-track album delivers in-your-face hard rock anthems, soaring ballads and alt-metal scorchers. Drummer T-Bone comments on the new video:

"'Lady in the Wall' is a tune that I and our guitarist Emir originally wrote long time ago, and then our singer Gil finalized the lyrics and vocal melodies just before going into recording. But it received its finishing touches in the studio with our producer Cristian Machado. Cristian was throwing around the term 'haunted metal' at the time, and so we ran with that; a tale of harassment at the hands of a ghost..." More...

Three Thirteen Releases "Brain Damage" Video

Los Angeles thrash band Three Thirteen, featuring Randy Weitzel (In This Moment, Blackfall) has released a horror-themed music video for "Brain Damage (Undead)." The track is from the band's upcoming album "Dawn of the Shred," slated for release later this year, and the video was directed by Matt Zane (Zakk Wylde, John 5, Run DMC, Orgy, Dope, Wayne Static, Blackfall).

Three Thirteen's Randy Weitzel (vocals, guitar) comments: "Two things that shaped and influenced my style beginning when I was younger were thrash metal and horror movies from the eighties. For the ‘Brain Damage’ video, I wanted to capture the humor and campy vibe of movies like Return of the Living Dead and Evil Dead 2. I came up with the concept to compliment the music, and Matt took my ideas, ran with them, and made it all happen with ease.”

Weitzel adds, “The album 'Dawn of the Shred' is influenced by my favorite Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax albums. Early thrash was melodic, especially vocally, and I wanted to do something that pays tribute to that era - catchy vocal melody hooks, shredding guitars and songs about zombies and aliens." More...

Whitechapel Releases New Music Video

After recently completing a co-headlining USA trek with Suicide Silence, Whitechapel is now ready to fly over to Europe to kick-off the Impericon "Never Say Die!" 2016 tour, which will see the band headline a 3-week-plus-run through 13 countries.

With just one week until the first show, Whitechapel is now premiering a new video for "Bring Me Home." Front-man Phil Bozeman comments:

"This video means more to me than any video we've ever done. It portrays my struggle through dealing with my dad's death at the age of 10. The shots of me show me at my darkest moments. Suicidal thoughts, suicide note and feeling alone. The atmosphere of the room we shot this is nailed exactly how I was feeling at the time. Dark, depressed and suicidal.

"The shots of the man and young boy portray my bond I had with my dad and how devastated I was when he left. They are presented to be in a dream like state of me remembering him. The last shot is from my dad and mom's actual gravesite. It's really awesome to have that authenticity to the video. The final scene is showing that I came out of it alive but no matter what, I will push forward and not give up." More...

Crowbar Discusses "The Serpent Only Lies"

Doom and sludge metal bands weren’t as common in the late eighties as today. Back then bands most often looked to hair metal and thrash for inspiration. New Orleans, Louisiana was no different. When the saints go marching in, they were doing it to the cadence of Exhorder. After a few years, every music genre becomes oversaturated. Thrash was no longer a novelty to friends Kirk Windstein and Jimmy Bower. Instead of worshipping speed, the two went the other direction, one treaded by bands such as Trouble, Saint Vitus, and of course, Black Sabbath.

Down tempos were a major facet of Crowbar’s sound, but they also liked to push the pace with circle-pit inducing hardcore rhythms. You get hit with a bass bomb and then a machine gun blast. Windstein’s vocals were cast from the same cinder blocks as his guitar grooves, resulting in a more aggressive take than any doom band. Crowbar is a band about fighting, but not in the sense of punching some one in the mouth. Their lyrics are about inner conflict, about fighting to overcome adversity. As hard as the band hits, though, melody is also a major tool to express these ideas.

The mix of hardcore, doom and southern rock became known as sludge. Just like many scenes the NOLA scene was built on friends influencing friends, sharing stages and sharing bands. Bower played drums for Crowbar in the early days. Windstein and Bower both also played together in Down. Add Bower’s other band, Eyehategod, and you have the scene that propagated sludge to the world’s masses. If not for bands like these three, sludge wouldn’t experience its current popularity. The sound has evolved into more of a stoner tag, but at the roots were NOLA bands.

In 1993, Down band mate Phil Anselmo helped NOLA sludge climb into the light. Anselmo had made a name for himself singing for Pantera, so the masses noticed when he produced Crowbar’s self-titled album and brought them on tour. He also sported Eyehategod shirts and took them on tour as well. Animated morons Beavis and Butthead watched “Existence is Punishment” and made fun of Crowbar’s weight. The dimwitted duo made fun of a lot of great metal videos—Death “The Philosopher” and Morbid Angel “God of Emptiness” for example. But even negative exposure is still exposure, especially on MTV.

Nearly three decades after they struck their first chord, Crowbar has looked to the past for inspiration. “The Serpent Only Lies” (due October 28th) is a throwback to the band’s early years. Often a band’s early records are fan favorites because those records are fresh and novel. Even though Windstein wrote the way he wanted to write the album, it’s still cool that he did something fans ask for but never get. Bands cringe at the idea of revisiting early records. In the following interview, singer/guitarist/lyricist Kirk Windstein talks about what inspired him to make this record and how their influences help define the band as a whole. More...

Dys Inbunden Streams New Single "Riders Of Malign"

Swedish black metal act Dys Inbunden is proud to reveal the new single "Riders of Malign," streaming in the player below. This is the first sneak peek of new material from the upcoming new full length album.

"Riders of Malign" was recorded at Endarker Studio with Magnus ‘Devo’ Andersson (Marduk) in October 2016. The hymn is dedicated to the titanic fire-bearer Azazel and the bloodline of Cain. It serves as a war anthem for the formless forces of death and gives the listener not only a taste of what to expect from the next opus, but also an insight into the band's satanic doctrine.

The band hopes that: "This new song will curse the non-worthy listeners and bless those who are of the same bloodline as us. Those who walk the left hand path of gnosis and who have respect for what our art is trying to accomplish. Hail Azazel! Hail the bloodline! Hail Satan!"

Heaven's Decay Announces Debut Release

Chaos Records will release the debut album from Heaven's Decay, "The Great Void of Mystery," on December 12th. Led by Julio Viterbo (Tormentor, Shub Niggurath, Cenotaph, The Chasm), the music is primarily NWOBHM-inspired metal infused with the range of influences from Viterbo's impressive career as a musician.

After a long and illustrious career in death metal as a guitarist in the aforementioned bands, Viterbo decided to reconnect with the heavy metal that enveloped him as a youth and gave meaning to his life. The groundwork was laid in August 2013 when Viterbo participated in the recording of Acerus debut album "The Unreachable Salvation," a traditional metal album for which he composed half the songs. The work was a turning point in his career as a guitarist, allowing Viterbo to explore new sounds and expand his compositional scope.

The result was the launch of Heaven's Decay in 2015. After composing several songs, Viterbo invited Oscar Clorio (Damned Cross, Cenotaph, Shub Niggurath, Denial) to join him on the journey as drummer, The pair then recruited Nick Hernandez (Stone Magnum) as vocalist. The songs were completed via the internet, as Oscar lives in Mexico City, while Julio and Nick call Chicago home.

Finally in July 2016, Heaven's Decay recorded "The Great Void Of Mystery" in Chicago's Minbal Studios. The album was engineered by Matt Russell and mastered by Dan Swanö in Unisound studios in Sweden. Chaos Records will release the album on CD and digital formats. The band is already working on new material for the next installment of heavy metal fury.

The artwork for "The Great Void of Mystery" was created by Arturo Vargas (Zombirefication) at Souls Crematorium Art Studio. The track listing is as follows:

1. Intro
2. Born in Fire
3. Where the Ravens Fly Free
4. Thunder of the Guns
