New York vets Dehumanized have set November 27th as the release date for their long-awaited return to action, "Controlled Elite." After reforming last year, Dehumanized inked a multi-album contract with Comatose Music and have since been bulldozing their way back onto the U.S. death metal scene. A promo video for the track "Bloodties" from the album is streaming below.
Who isn't aware of the blood and guts spewing shock rockers GWAR? Their legendary concerts filled with gore that ends up soaking the surging audience have been thrilling fans for nearly thirty years now. Even the tragic experience of the death of the guitarist Flattus Maximus did not stop the monsters of GWAR from the road. GWAR has recently added a relative of Flattus to the fold for this tour. I had a chance to speak to singer Oderus Urungus about their new guitarist, Halloween, and political aspirations. A transcription follows the video. More...
Danish death metal band Ferocity has signed a record deal with Deepsend Records in association with Carsten Brogaard/Revolution-Music. In the coming months Ferocity will commence recording a new full length album, which will be released in 2013. The band also commented:
"Today we are more than happy to officially announce, that Ferocity sign record deal with American Deepsend Records!
"The process of searching labels has been in association with Carsten Brogaard/Revolution-Music, who receives our thanks. Deepsend Records has released a lot of other great Danish death metal acts such as Dawn Of Demise, The Cleansing, Spectral Mortuary and (soon to be released) Corpus Mortale - and also interesting international acts such as Ulcerate.
"This news is of course very exciting for us, and we will in the following months commence recording our next full length record, which will be released in 2013. Thus our EP, which has been mentioned a few times the last months, will not be published at this point, but the tracks will be part of the new full length record. Stay tuned for forthcoming news!"
Threat Signal has issued the following brief statement online about missing tonight's Kelowna tour date:
"Unfortunately we won't be able to make it to our show tonight in Kelowna, BC due to border issues. Hopefully we'll be able to make it back there for you guys sometime soon!"
Threat Signal will also be joining Scar Symmetry on a North American tour in November/December, with dates to be announced soon. More...
After the release of Speaking to Stones’ 2006 self-titled debut, guitarist Tony Vinci began work on a more progressive project that called for a new group of musicians. Speaking to Stones’ current line-up includes Andy Engberg (Section A) on vocals, Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Slavior) on drums, Greg Putnam (Jam Pain Society) on bass and stick, and Anthony Brown (Graphite Symphony) on keyboards.
Between 2009 and 2012, this cast of international performers collaborated on the five thematically-linked tracks that make up the band’s upcoming November 16th, 2012 release: "Elements." According to a press release, the result is a "musical narrative that builds on groove metal roots and develops into a soundscape of symphonic complexity and technically prodigious performances."
A sampler featuring music from the album can be heard below. Lion Music also comments: More...
Today Decibel Magazine brings you the song “In Cythera,” from Killing Joke’s upcoming "MMXII" full-length. The album is set for North American release next Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 through Spinefarm Records. Check out the song right here. The following press release was also issued:
"The songs – 11 in total --are great washes of sound; a death disco with mammoth slabs of guitar that soundtracks our dangerous times. It’s an end-of-time album that somehow finds moments of optimism in the downward swirl of the planet. Finding hope in the apocalypse, this album just could be Killing Joke’s magnum opus.
"At a time when the news is on fast-forward and the planet seems to be descending into lunacy, who better than Killing Joke to reflect such a sentiment? When their original lineup of Jaz Coleman, Geordie, Youth and Big Paul reconvened in 2008 after working together intermittently, that strange voodoo once again filled the room. Individually, they have a power, but together they have something sulphurous and strong that few bands can match. Killing Joke are not an average band with an average agenda; they lock the door and let the ritual commence, and MMXII is the result." More...
With Halloween nearing in just a week, what better timing for the boys of Boston’s Sonic Pulse, (the beer-fueled, power thrashing super group featuring members of Razormaze, Skull Hammer, Ravage and Vindicator) to unleash their new music video for "Bong Zombies?" The directorial debut by vocalist Dan Hammer can be viewed below. Dan commets:
“Directing the video was actually one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. There’s nothing more fun than trying to keep 10 metalheads, most of who have likely have some form of ADD, on task and trying to keep track of the shots that need to be taken at the same time. The graveyard scenes were filmed secret-agent style by sneaking into a graveyard with 40lbs of dry ice along with a fake bong and lighting equipment at night, with the rest being filmed at or around my house and in an abandoned room in a warehouse. You've gotta use guerrilla tactics if you want to save money on production lol!"
The video is in support of Sonic Pulse's new album "Lager Than Life," which is now available digitally and on CD through bandcamp, and will soon be released as a limited edition vinyl with only 500 copies via a soon to be named label. More...
Blessthefall has released a new music video for the single "40 Days," which can be viewed below. The new video offers the band's take on a zombie film, featuring lead singer Beau Bokan returning from his grave.
"After waiting around for several months for the new season of The Walking Dead to start back up we decided to take matters into our own hands and make our very own zombie flick, with a Blessthefall twist" explains Beau Bokan. "As many of our fans know we don't take ourselves too seriously, so we of course added a proper dose of BTF comedic value. The video was a blast to film and we even added a very special female guest zombie at the end. Hope you love this music video as much as we do and remember...you don't always live just once."
To follow a summer on the Vans Warped Tour, the Phoenix, AZ quintet is currently overseas on the Never Say Die Tour with We Came As Romans and Stick To Your Guns, and has recently announced a North American headline tour, including support from A Skylit Drive, At The Skylines, and Skip The Foreplay. Indianola Records is excited to announce the singing of post-hardcore outfit Apparitions, which was formerly named This Twilight City. On the signing, Apparition's Brandon Spearman had this to say: “We are very excited to be a part of such an amazing label that has had some very historical and meaningful releases throughout the years.”
Apparitions is also pleased to announce that debut album "Kiss Me Sleeping" will be released on February 26th, 2013. "Kiss Me Sleeping" was produced by Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, Alesana) at his studio in North Carolina. Vocalist Alex Lee commented on this process by saying, “Working with Jamie King isn't something I would've predicted happening. If you told me 2 years ago I wouldn’t have believed it. Some very monumental albums of my upbringing were produced by him. I feel very honored to be recording with Jamie.”
Alex then briefly describes the album by stating, “Kiss Me Sleeping was an original idea for a band name before we agreed on Apparitions. It stands for times in my life I was at my absolute darkest. Like the real me was gone or sleeping rather. All the while there was always someone there who loved me unconditionally. The lyrics on the album are a definite 180 from the This Twilight City love songs. We are more aggressive, and that raw crazy sound needed some deeper lyrics from the darkest parts of me. It touches on my alcoholism, sexual appetite, my ‘Forget it moments’, and just things of that sort.”
Brandon commented deeper on the band's new sound, “We like to describe it as pop-metal, but in all honesty it is a bit deeper than that. We do have some metal and pop tendencies, but we also bring a bit of experimental, progressive and electronic styles to the table as well. With the different styles of music we have mixed in that makes our sound, we would be able to fit in with groups like Chiodos, Coheed And Cambria, and Circa Survive.”
"Stamina," the debut album from Bosnia and Herzegovina based old school technical death/thrash metal band After Oblivion, will be released on November 9th through Metal On Metal Records.
After Oblivion's music is described by the label as "an homage to '90s period Death, as the band deliberately embraces Chuck Schuldiner’s legacy, however it also bears a personal stamp thanks to the passion and talent of these young musicians. 'Stamina' is not just a display of technical virtuosity, but it's full of emotion, atmospheric and intense."
Two songs off "Stamina" have been made available for streaming via bandcamp, and Metalunderground.com is now very proud to exclusively premiere a third track. French act General Lee has inked a worldwide deal with New Jersey-based Play The Assassin Records. The band’s new full-length, "Raiders Of The Evil Eye," will be released on November 15th, 2012. Check out opening song "The Witching Hour" in the player below. The following press release was also issued:
"Since their formation, the triple-guitar led General Lee have set out to create a tense musical climate; mixing heavy metallic riffing and icy, oppressive atmospheres with cathartic hardcore screaming. The band’s 2008 Hannibal Ad Portas debut is a culmination of early influences, namely Botch, Neurosis, The Chariot and assorted Belgian beers. A chaotic symphony of blackened intensity and bombastic euphoria, the record received critical praise from press and fans alike. General Lee would go on to share the road with the likes of Baroness, Helmet, This Will Destroy You, and Cult of Luna.
"Roads followed in 2010 and showcased a more controlled and mature band. General Lee's sound started to take a more individualistic shape that melded the genres of metal, hardcore and ethereal-like beauty. Roads was mastered by Tom Baker (Deftones, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Monster Magnet) at Precision Studios.
"November of 2012 will see the birth of the band’s third full-length, Raiders Of The Evil Eye. With their first two releases primarily finding audiences in France, the band has signed with Play The Assassin Records and will be exposed to their largest audience yet. Raiders Of The Evil Eye finds the band teetering on the edge of a molecular meltdown; further blurring the lines of the posts-metal/hardcore. A seven-song thirty-three-minute explosion of extremes, Raiders Of The Evil Eye is chaotic yet controlled; extreme yet blissful. Raiders Of The Evil Eye will be presented in a limited edition, six-panel digipak." More...

Innerstrength Records is pleased to announce the latest addition to its stable of artists: Chicago metal road warriors Elysion Fields, whose debut full-length album "New Beginnings" is slated for release on February 12th, 2013. The following press release was issued about the signing:
"As metal fans with an eye on the underground already know, Elysion Fields have spent the past few years pummeling the live scene as one of the genre’s worst-kept secrets, making their presence known on stages alongside marquee names like August Burns Red, MyChildren MyBride, We Came As Romans, Misery Index, and more. The band increased its profile by storming SXSW, where it played four showcases including the main stage at the heralded Full Metal Texas party. On a clear trajectory as a burgeoning metal powerhouse, Elysion Fields are taking the next logical step by launching a partnership with Innerstrength for the release of New Beginnings."
Vocalist Chris Fernandez comments, “We are very excited to be a part of the Innerstrength family. Since the beginning they have been very transparent about everything, and that is how business with a label should be done."
“Building a team around your band is an integral part to being successful,” adds guitarist and vocalist Josh Woods. “So many artists are quick to sign a contract with a label that doesn't even market their tours or promote their artists. Jason at Innerstrength was able to do just that while at the same time remaining open to what we want to do in regards to moving forward with both music creation and all business aspects.” More...

One evening in Montreal earlier this month, I dropped in at Piranha Bar, where local underground favorites Endast were kicking off their latest Canadian tour. Providing direct support was Ontario five-piece Odium, who’d won me over with a potent mix of intensity and melody, of modern and old school influences, on recent sophomore effort “Burning The Bridges To Nowhere.” Following the riveting set, I caught up with frontman Tom Emmans for a “man on the street” exchange. Here’s how it went: More...
David Parland of Swedish act Infernal has checked in with the following announcement about seeking a new drummer and pushing back a new album release:
"Infernal is currently seeking a pro Death/Black/Thrash/Heavy metal drummer for immediate recordings. This for the up-coming full-length 'THE INFERNAL RETRIBUTION' which has been in the making for a long process of time, but is planned to be recorded sometime next year, with a release not too long after.
"What we seek is a drummer with high skills and of course with experiences from other bands, and preferably living in Stockholm or other part of Sweden, but others can always apply as well.
"Unfortunately, the long planned album has been delayed due to both some member problems and a few personal problems as well, but I've continued to write through all this time, and have most material ready finally. Since 2010, when we did the last EP 'THE INFERNAL RETURN,' when we split with longer time drummer Tomas Asklund (GORGOROTH, ex-DISSECTION). Not much hse happened officially, but the songs and the album have existed and now been in my mind for several years, and the time is now for us to start the recordings, despite how long it has taken to come this far.
"As fast as we have solved this seemingly everlasting drummer problem plaguing us, we are ready to go. As earlier said the music of Infernal today can be described as a mix between old Necrophobic ,(but with blast beats)/Dissection/Slayer and Morbid Angel. This compared to the old SATANIC HOLOCAUST METAL style of the first two CD'S, which almost solely consisted of ultra fast blast-beats and extreme satanic chantings through the whole songs.
"The sound of Infernal today is 'less' extreme, but still very brutal and absolutely 100 % Satanic Death/Black Metal. Drummers who are interested can send their application/mail to: (together with musicfiles with drumming and photo and some personal info) email@example.com."

If Satan needed a house band in Hell, he could certainly call on Morbid Angel. Thanks to his guitar acrobatics, journalists have long dubbed band-founder Trey Azagthoth as the Eddie Van Halen of death metal. When the group emerged in 1989 with their first proper release, few, if any, could match the Mercury-footed speed of Pete Sandoval’s double-bass-blasting feet. The groove, mind-blowing skill and heretical lyrics and imagery landed the group at the top of the extreme metal world. Massive touring cycles transformed the band into one of the most prolific, underground touring acts of the 1990s. Their devilish music found its largest audience opening for Slayer and Pantera in the beginning of the new millennium.
After the Pantera gigs, Morbid Angel largely stayed out of the limelight. An opening stint for Soulfly in 2005 was the only North American tour I recall since Pantera. Assumingly, much of the crowd in attendance at Backstage Live in San Antonio had not seen the group in seven or even twelve years. Many long-time fans bemoaned “Illud Divinium Insanus,” the group’s first album in eight years, as the lowest point of artistry in the group’s near-thirty-year career.
