The Rockstar Ramblings: Sex Slaves vs. Falling Red

This week a look at two recently released videos from Sex Slaves and Falling Red; in a classic showdown I will have to ultimately decide between strippers and blood. Surprisingly, it’s a lot closer than you think.

The first video is from UK rockers, Falling Red. The video is for the song “Come On Down” from the EP “Hasta La Victoria Siempre.” We begin with the 1-2 punch of guitars and the band name, Falling Red, shown on a marquee, and then we’re off with two girls dancing on the stage in lingerie. The song begins with, “Friday night and I’m headed for the show…” then cuts to a seating area that may be a VIP or champagne room, although I doubt the latter because there is too much light. Here we find a girl in red lingerie stripping on a pole. We are 36 seconds in and already have three strippers. For those keeping score at home I don’t need too mention how impressive this is. The Devil's Blood Announces North American Release

Metal Blade Records has announced its union with The Devil's Blood to release the upcoming full-length album, "The Thousandfold Epicentre," in North America on January 17th, 2012. The new album from The Devil's Blood features 11 tracks, which were produced with the help of Pieter Kloos at Void Studios(Eindhoven / The Netherlands). The band commented:

“We are very pleased to be able to announce our partnership with a partner so deeply rooted in tradition and at the same time willing and able to extend their borders to include The Devil's Blood. This industrious quality makes us feel we have chosen a partner who shall not sit idly by as their seeds are growing, but instead shall water the orchard with love and passion so the fruits may become sweet as damnation's wine. Our cult is growing, growing fast, and with the addition of Metal Blade to our family we shall endeavor to make the whole world dream the dreams of Death.”

Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records added, “THE DEVIL’S BLOOD has a sound that is quite unique in today's scene. Reminiscent of the classic metal and psychedelic rock bands of the 60's and 70's, THE DEVIL’S BLOOD has created a dark and haunting world made up of intriguing music, strong vocals and musicianship, reflective artwork, and a theatrical stage show that is not to be missed. We are extremely excited to be working with THE DEVIL’S BLOOD and look forward to releasing their upcoming full-length The Thousandfold Epicentre in North America this January.” More...

Pythia Bassist Comments On Joining The Band

Pythia's new bass player Mark Harrington has issued the following blog post about joining the band:

"I can't really lay claim to ever having been the most rampant party animal at any point in my life, but even by my own modest standards, an 18th century church in the suburban surrounds of Hackney, North London, seemed far from the most appropriate of locations for an indulgent Saturday night. And yet indulgence and, one might argue, worship of a kind, were the two reasons I found myself at this unlikely venue on a cool, late summer evening. Vain self-indulgence of the kind one can only experience when posing and 'throwing-shapes' for a video camera and worship at the Altar of Heavy Metal for, notwithstanding a couple of prior rehearsals and informal meetings, this was to be my true induction into the ranks of the mighty Pythian army: a video shoot for the first single from Pythia's second album.

"My limited prior experience of music video shoots had led me to believe that this would be a baptism by fire (no pun intended). To say that these things can drag on is something of a gross understatement. Hours can drag into days. I had quietly conceded that the agreed 6pm start was nothing if incredibly optimistic and had visions of returning home and collapsing onto my bed with mid-morning sun streaming through the curtains, at least 12 hours of shooting later. Happily, my apprehensions proved unfounded. Despite an initial delay as we waited for the sun to finally set, leaving us with just artificial lighting to illuminate our setting, things moved along more smoothly and efficiently than anyone could have hoped for and a mere 4 hours later, our work here was done.

"This experience goes to highlight that which has impressed me most in my short time with the band – they get on and get things done. Anyone with experience of either working with or playing in a band will know that there is invariably (and unavoidably) a not-inconsiderable amount of, shall we say, dicking-around. The unpredictable and in many cases purposefully disorganized nature of the business demand it, in many cases. And yet, my Pythian co-conspirators set a fantastic example of how easy it is to get the job done professionally and efficiently and yet, still maintain a delightful illusion of the intoxicating chaos that lies at the core of that which keeps us all enthralled by the idea of rock music and heavy metal bands in particular. I left the church tired but content in the knowledge that I had made the right decision in accepting the bands offer to join them in their quest for musical glory. More...

Melechesh Wraps Up Tour, Appears In Comic

Sumerian black/thrash metallers Melechesh have just returned from their European tour as special guests of label mates Samael. Mastermind, vocalist and guitarist Ashmedi offers the following summary:

“So far we have completed our fourth tour, plus a festival run in support of The 'Epigenesis' album. Yet we still have some more gigs to announce.

"Lux Mundi tour was a great experience for one thing the weather was great so that things like the flu, ice and floods were kept at bay, but more importantly touring with talented bands like Keep of Kalessin and Samael was a pleasure, both on a professional and personal level as well . Massive Music did a very good job as always - a professional crew which is more like family than anything else. The opening acts Minkus, Dark End, Fluxious, Dead Shape Figure, Noctem, Six Reasons to Kill, and Inferi all had something different to offer, which added spice and diversity to each night of the tour, plus the guys and gals in those bands were just superb to have around. Now it is time to sit and compose!”

Furthermore, French comic artist Fabrice Gagos has included a tribute to both Melechesh members Ashmedi and Moloch to his weekly updated web comic by dedicating one of the main characters – Sayid – to the two. Here’s what the creator says about it: More...

Cradle Of Filth Writing New Album

Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth has posted a new blog online announcing the band is writing material to follow-up the "Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa" album (reviewed here). An excerpt from the blog follows:

"Long time dead fellow creatures of the underworld! Sorry for my lengthy absence but this time of the year always brings out the creative touch-paper in the band, so we've made like busy little bees and started to write the follow up to last year's 'Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa' , with two songs ('The Abhorrent' and 'Siding With The Titans' ) already past the demoing stage, with a third track snapping swiftly on their heels. I can reveal that they are sounding sonically, well, like Cradle of Filth, but in a very good way. But then again I would say that, wouldn't I? Whether it be true or not I think the songs thus far sound fab, very atmospheric but driving headlong, eerily cinematic and really memorable.

"At the present we are looking at entering the studio around the third week in March 2012 with that ever tentative release date of next All Hallow's Eve to crawl eventually toward. This would put the band firmly back out on the road towards the end of next year, possibly straight into the maw of Europe. There will be new things in the Cradle Of Filth canon as we really try not to stagnate, well not outside of our stage clothes anyway, but rest assured what has surfaced already is killer material indeed. And no, it's not's another fucking concept album!

"As for other matters the EP/DVD 'Evermore Darkly' should be out in a smattering of days, something has always been fan-related and served up like loving gloop just in time for Hallowe'en. It's an expansive release as we tried to get as much cool stuff on it as possible, including squeezing the whole hour-long show at Graspop into the jar as well. I think fans are going to love it, and if you don't, tough shit. We do!"

Winds Of Plague Posts New Music Video

Winds of Plague has teamed up with Bloody-Disgusting.com for the premiere of the new music video for "Refined In The Fire." Directed by Jeremy Schott of MentalSuplex, the video keeps in the Halloween vein with blood covered band members and zombies.

"Being a big fan of both horror films and Halloween we wanted to do a video to tie into both," Says vocalist Johnny Plague. "We created a video set in a post apocalyptic era... Not too long into the video you realize the cause of the end of society as we know it, ZOMBIES! I play the role of zombie slaying bad mother fucker roaming the dessert looking for salvation. Instead i find a shack infested with all sorts of evil. To capture this horror based music video i recruited my people at Knotts Scary farm. Designer Brooke Walters as well as a legion of monsters. Happy Halloween followers of Plague, stay bloody!"

Running Wild Returns With Comeback Album

Rock 'N' Rolf of German power metal band Running Wild announced that he will resurrect the defunct band. Running Wild played a final show in 2009 at Wacken Open Air and subsequently issued show as a live album and DVD release entitled "The Final Jolly Roger." Rolf announced that the new album, the first studio release since the 2005 album "Rogues En Vogue," will be entitled "Shadowmaker" and will be released in April of 2012 through SPV Records.

The announcement from the band's official website reads:

"RUNNING WILD are back! To the delight of his countless fans, Captain Rock'n'Rolf has announced the release of the new album, 'Shadowmaker', seven years after RUNNING WILDs last studio album, 'Rogues En Vogue'. 'My comments in spring 2009 about the demise of RUNNING WILD were absolutely serious at the time. I really needed time out and, to be honest, couldn't imagine even in January 2011 that I would ever feel like recording a new album again.', says Rolf. 'But when I had the inspiration for a best-of album, to which I wanted to contribute four new numbers, I rediscovered how much I enjoy composing. From then on it was only a small step to record a full new studio album.'

"Rock'n'Rolf has written ten new tracks for 'Shadowmaker'. among them are the midtempo opener 'Piece Of The Action', the uptempo number 'Shadowmaker' (roughly the same pace as "Angel Of Mercy") and the monumental eight-minute track 'Dracula', based on Bram Stoker's novel and the Christopher Lee movies. 'To me, 'Shadowmaker' is a very special album because there was no pressure, timewise or otherwise. I feel it's clearly audible that this relaxed attitude helped me to write one of the strongest RUNNING WILD recordings of all time.'

Rolf also posted a video message to the fans, shown here:
