…and although Ensiferum have travelled a long, long way from home, the Southern tip of Africa has it’s own contingent of supporters for this unusual genre who have been most eager to welcome the Finns. We asked Shay from the band Riddare Av Koden (who are touring with the band during their South African dates) how this all came about. “It wasn’t planned or anything,” he told us, “it just happened!” Laughing, Shay explained how the ball got rolling after he sent a normal ‘obsessed fan’ email to the bands manager who actually replied, suggesting Ensiferum’s desire to tour here. “Only once the flights were booked and I saw the confirmation did it sink in that this was really happening,” Shay continued.
It seems that destiny has played it’s hand. At the time when Shay emailed Ensiferums manager, they had apparently just been speculating about a tour to Africa. Both Ensiferum and Riddare Av Koden leapt at the opportunity to work together towards making this tour a reality, also bringing in the expertise of a local events company. More...
The Sacramento, CA quintet Conducting From The Grave is set to release the new album "Revenants" on October 25th, 2010. The band has partnered up with Lambgoat.com to debut the new track “Unholiest of Nightmares,” which can be heard now via this location.
Guitarist Jeff Morgan commented: "The track, 'Unholiest of Nightmares,' is my personal favorite on our new album Revenants. It has a little of everything that represents our style from classic CFTG thrash-style riffing to pretty melodic parts, as well as crushing heaviness. The track does a good job of representing a fairly comprehensive musical picture of the band. We have been playing it most nights on the current tour (the 'Time to Bleed Tour' with Suicide Silence). So far it's been going over great, as well as has the rest of the new material we've been playing.
"Things are looking great for the immediate future of the band. We've got some great tours lined up and we're all super excited about the album release this coming Monday, October 25th. We actually get to play Denver to celebrate the release on Monday, which is great because Denver has always been like a home away from home for us. To give you a little insight into the lyrical content of the track I asked our vocalist, Mikey, to give a thematic/inspirational overview of the lyrics." More...

"Cheers to the world! I know it's been a long time since you heard from us. We have been very busy doing the final touches on the forthcoming album. And again from this spring we have been busy recording both in our hometown Skien and in Trondheim at Keep of Kalessin's studio.
"Now I can finally announce that Nils, Stian and Jorn Viggo are back from the mixing sessions in Stockholm, Sweden. Stefan Glaumann at Toytown Studios (known for prods as Rammstein, Madonna, Within Temptation etc.) once again took on the task to mix our new album.
"In September we did a couple of gigs here at home, playing Drammen, Hamar and Trondheim with awesome response. Good turnout and nice people, and thanks to our happy-faced merch man we are totally out of merch at the moment, but fear not. Within a fourthnight there will be plenty in stock. More...

Nocturnal Rites has checked in with the following update about working on new material:
"Hi everyone! We thought it was time for a fresh start. As you can see we are working on a brand new website which will be online very soon, we hope! And it will contain lots of new stuff and information for you. We are currently writing songs for the new album and rehearsing for the gig at the Sabaton Cruise in Stockholm, 2nd of December 2010. The song-writing is going well we have lots of new material for our 9th studio album. We have some really dark and aggressive stuff written as well as some more melodic, so this new album will definitely cater to all aspects of the Nocturnal Rites legacy!
"We also played some live shows with our new guitarist Chris Rörland. This guy really did a great job, entering the stage for the first time as a new member of the band and he kicked ass from the beginning to the end! Not showing any fear at all, he just went for it, crazy but still being 100% professional. Even after a few shows it feels like he's been in the band for ages. So we are extremely happy.
"And we would also like to thank everyone who came to see us on our gigs since we started playing again. A big thanks to you all! More news to follow! Keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming songs, live shows, recording session & release."
Aborted vocalist Svencho has checked in with the following update about the band working on a new album:
"It’s been a while I posted something here to update the site but hey, we have been busy with many things. Besides Aborted I have been busy with the release of the System Divide record, check it out if you get a chance and further working on Avernus studios (graphic design studio) and Skarewear (serial killer/horror clothing line). The Kens have been busy with Abigail Williams who also just released a new album and are touring atm. Dirk has been busy touring with Soilw0rk and Jb just recorded the new Whorecore album, etc as you see we have all been busy on different levels.
"This however does NOT mean we are not working on Aborted stuff. Have no fear fellow misanthropes, we are hard at work on writing the next album, there won’t be much shows until we actually have the record out, but when it hits, expect it to hit hard! So far about 8 songs are written, the aim is to have about 11 ready for the record and 2 bonus tracks because well 2011 is going to be a special year for Aborted, more about that later! We have the whole concept written out and there won’t be any spoilers yet but I think there will be quite some surprises for everyone, in a good, horrific aborted way, of corpse! More...

Drummer Jukka? of the symphonic metal band Nightwish has issued the following studio update:
"I usually find recording sessions stressful and just want to have them done as fast as possible, but this time it was all different. The whole session was extremely relaxed and we didn't hurry at all. We took the time to try some different approaches to some of the songs and didn't make any compromises. As one of the pictures shows, Tuomas literally whipped the very best out of me. But I'm sure he did it with love..."
"Songs have again a massive variety and mood changes from lunatic circus to a hazy jazz club. It was a great challenge to try to get the right touch to each of the songs, but my 'humble' opinion is that we nailed it. Today we finished the session by recording witch drum to the starter of the album and by playing brushes to a classy ballad in the spirit of David Lynch. Drums were recorded to ten songs all together and it couldn't have been any better - perfect location, great guys around to work with and some excellent music to be created."
"Now it's time to raise my glass and say 'cheers' to the guys. It's Emppu's turn to give his contribution to the album and I'm sure you'll hear something of him soon."

Polish heavy metal act Crystal Viper is set to release the "Legends" album on October 22nd, 2010. Crystal Viper singer Marta has now issued the following track-by-track breakdown:
THE TRUTH (INTRO) The opening intro includes a narration recorded by Rhino, the legendary ex-Manowar drummer, who is currently member of the bands Holyhell and Angels Of Babylon. It is kind of a summary of the message behind the lyrics on "Legends”: evil always returns to its culprit, and greed is blind...
THE GHOST SHIP As the title suggest, the first song on the album tells the story about a ghost ship, which - as they say - can be seen during stormy nights around Slupsk's sea-coast, and which sank because of human greed a few hundreds years ago. This is a typical fast song in typical “German" style, with a rhythm based on triplets. You can hear guys from Wizard - Sven D'Anna & Dano Boland - doing the refrains.
BLOOD OF THE HEROES The next fast song with a double bass drum attack, a catchy main melody, and featuring the next special guest: Mat Sinner of Primal Fear and Sinner, who recorded the refrains and bridge in the second half of the song. This time lyrics are based on a real story, about the defenders of the Castle Hill, who were fighting in the year 1536.More...
