ProgPower USA kick off show promoter Nathan “The SwordLord” Block announced the annual festival's kick off show for 2013 to be held on Thursday September 5, 2013. The video below reveals that the headlining act will be Luca Turilli's Rhapsody, with an extended two hour set, along with Circle II Circle, featuring Zak Stevens (Ex-Savatage), who will play the entire Savatage LP "Wake of Magellan." The opening act will be Sacramento progressive band In the Silence.
The announcement reads as follow:
"The time has finally come to reveal who will be playing the Kick-Off Show for 2013. To say that I am beyond excited would be the understatement of the year!
"I want to thank Wayne, Jen and of course Glenn for all of their help in getting this epic video made and posted. I think that it is a fantastic prelude for what is to come.
"Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, November 17. There will be a rather large incentive to buy your tickets *early*, so watch the forum and website for more details on that date.
"I guarantee that this Kick-Off Show will be one for the record books. In fact, I am SO confident of this that I am going to offer a 50% discount on the 2014 Kick-Off Show for everyone that purchases a ticket to the 2013 show. Yes, you read that right. If you purchase a ticket to Kick-Off 2013, you will be able to get into Kick-Off 2014 for HALF PRICE. No tricks, no gimmicks. I am beyond excited for everyone I have on this bill and I know they are going to put on a terrific show. I want every single one of you to be there.
"The doors are a little early because the mid-card and headline bands both have very, very special extended sets. The middle band will be playing 90 minutes and the headliner will be playing for 135 minutes! Everyone is going to get the maximum amount of music for their hard-earned dollar.
"I am looking forward to hearing your feedback on this line-up. I have been working very hard on it for many weeks now. I think it is a fitting way to start out the 14th year of the greatest metal festival on the planet. I look forward to sharing the evening with all of you.
For the music,
Nathan “The SwordLord” Block

Here is Djerv’s statement on this matter: "We’re sad to announce we are postponing our European tour in December. Events outside our control make it impossible to go through with this headliner run. We apologize to our fans who had bought tickets and to the promoters who had been working with us on this tour. We will be back soon, rest assured. Thanks for your support and understanding."
Dunderbeist comments: “Dunderbeist are truly sorry about this as well, but we hope that some of you can make it to some of our November shows instead, OR wait till we get the new 2013 dates for the Djerv tour. Also we have to cancel the show in Alta (Norway) on nov 16th cause of the Fear Factory/Devin Townsend tour. We are truly sorry about this, having to let you guys down. Alta is one of our favourite cities to play, and we are pulling every string to find a new date for you guys!" More...

Onward We March has posted the new song "Ocean March" online, which can be heard below. The band also commented on its history:
"Onward We March started off as a living room jam session and has evolved into the force it is now through dedication, perseverance, living the do-it-yourself creed, and serving audiences of the Dallas/Forth Worth area their take on progressive metal. Melding the essence of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal with the progressive styles of Meshuggah, Mastodon, Opeth and The Dillinger Escape Plan, Onward We March has created a sound that stands on its own through its sincerity and brutality.
"Onward We March released their first EP, The Golden Vine, on January 28th, 2011, featuring now-former vocalist Logan Acton. Creative differences with Acton led them to start fresh with Chris Hobbs and take their unique brand of metal to a new level.
"After months of writing new material, Onward We March entered the studio once again with Sterling Winfield (Pantera, Damageplan, Hell Yeah) to record a three song EP titled 'Ocean Harvest.'" More...
God Seed releases its debut album “I Begin” on October 23, 2012. The said album took three years to create. The band planted its divine seed in 2009, shortly after a tumultuous court battle over the name of their former band, Gorgoroth. Gaahl and King ov Hell, ex-members of the legendary Norwegian black metal group, could not use the name sake, so they came up with the concept for God Seed. Unfortunately, shortly after forming the band, Gaahl announced his retirement.
King ov Hell recruited other recognized musicians in the Norwegian Black Metal scene such as Ice Dale from Enslaved and Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir to create a new group dubbed from his own namesake—Ov Hell. Gaahl returned to the music world just a year later and rejoined King ov Hell in the reformation of God Seed. Gorgoroth fans will revel in the album’s carnal approach, Gaahl’s infernal voices and organic sound. The album’s keyboards create enchanting sound scapes in the vain of Dimmu Borgir, while relating a ‘70s rock sound akin to Deep Purple.
Bassist and founding God Seed member, King ov Hell, spoke with Metal Underground.com on the phone about merging these disparate styles on “I Begin.” Even though King preferred to keep the lyrical and conceptual portion of his art a secret, he released a couple of clues to unlock a portion of his sonic “labyrinth.” More...

In the latest part of the "...And Justice For Art" serial on Pure Grain Audio, writer Ramon Martos-Garcia explores the highly charged artwork of the band Katatonia. Now on its ninth album, guitarist Anders Nystrom from the Swedish band explains the symbolism behind "Dead End Kings" and the credo of the artistry of Katatonia: "To follow your own vision without compromising and conforming to other people’s demands and expectations would make you a king in what people would just define as a dead end." Check out the wealth of insight into the band's album covers, most of which have been designed by American Travis Smith since 1999, by heading over to this location.
