"The Global Elite," the debut album from Minneapolis industrial metal war machine Skrog, is now streaming over at bandcamp in its entirety or below in the widget. Skrog is the work of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Jay Reiter and "The Global Elite" is an explosive, damning account of the current state of American politics and policies. Reiter went into a track-by-track dissertation of the album had this to say about the themes explored on "The Global Elite":
Skrog's 'The Global Elite' is the perfect summarization of 2012. It reflects on a lot of the political turmoil across the globe. It speaks out to the '99%.' It reflects on the 'Occupy' movement. It speaks out against terrorism. And best of all, it speaks to people around the world. Although the album focuses quite a bit on America and its global policies, a lot of issues The Global Elite addresses affect everyone. No matter who you are or where you come from, Skrog's 'The Global Elite' will move and affect you.
The album starts out with 'The Revelation', a song which draws parallels between the current global state of affairs and the last book of the Bible. The second track, 'MK-Ultra,' is a song about the declassified CIA operation that involved dosing unaware U.S. citizens with illegal mind altering drugs. Military Industrial Complex uses samples from Eisenhower's farewell address and JFK's 'Monolithic' speech to paint a grim picture of an unheeded warning against current military expansion.
The fourth track, 'Submit,' is a fast paced declaration of resistance against the Global Elite.' End of the World (As You Know It),' the album's fifth track, is a prediction of the end of peace in America and the start of global nuclear war. The album takes a turn at the sixth track into political doom and gloom; 'Dark Metamorphosis' poses a more surreal apocalypse - the rise of the undead. 'The Hunter' and 'The Hunted' comprise a two-part concept; the former an instrumental that takes the listener through a soundscape of the synthetic and the acoustic, the latter being a fast paced thrash song about the lives of the elite through their own eyes.
Skrog recently released a video for "My Dark Metamorphosis," which can be viewed after the jump. That track was recently on the short zombie film "Arise."
Saxon has issued the following statement about progress on the band's new album and upcoming tour dates:
"Hi everybody! Saxon has never been a lazy band and especially this year we have been extremely busy! After we played several festivals all across Europe and some great gigs together with Judas Priest and the very first Hamburg Metal Days - we have almost finished the new album. The mix is done and the mastering is almost finished.
"We have guys who are right now putting the last details together and working bits and pieces out for the artwork. Watch out for further news releases like album cover, track list, some more behind the scenes info etc. Since most of album production work is done, the band can't keep their feet still and have decided to play a very short Christmas run of 3 dates:
07.12.2012 CH Bern - Metal Christmas Festival

Phoenix, Arizona’s black ‘n’ roll death merchants TOAD (Take Over And Destroy) have completed the writing process of their new full-length, tentatively titled "Endless Night." The following press release was issued about the album:
"Since returning home from a victorious tour in March, Take Over and Destroy has been hard at work in the sweltering desert heat, crafting what is simply dubbed 'a sonic weapon.' The scripting process was reportedly plagued by various bouts of misfortune including lost rehearsal spaces, run-ins with the law, crippling illness and death. Through perpetual negativity came a primal, chaotic source of inspiration for the collective. The malevolent energy captured on Endless Night promises to be the band’s most sincerely powerful output to date.
"Take Over And Destroy will be re-enlisting the services of producer/engineer Bob Hoag at Flying Blanket Recording in Mesa, Arizona who worked with the band previously on their Rotten Tide EP. The band will enter the studio immediately following their live occupation of the Southwest Terror Fest October 19 at The Rock in Tucson, Arizona alongside Hull, Sons Of Tonatiuh, Ladybird, Godhunter and many more."
"Endless Night" serves as the follow-up to the "Rotten Tide" EP, released independently earlier this year. More...

On the heels of a recently completed North American tour, in which saw the band parting ways with vocalist Annette Olson and ReVamp vocalist Floor Jansen filling in, Nightwish has posted the full theatrical preview for the upcoming "Imaginaerum" movie release. The film is based on band's latest album was based (see Metal Underground's review at this location). The film is set to open in Finland on November 23, 2012, but has has no set release date for North America. More information on the movie can be found at the official film website located at this location.
"Imaginaerum" tells the story of an elderly composer, Tom, who suffers from severe dementia. As he has had the disease for years and has regressed into childhood, he remembers practically nothing from his adult life. His music, friends, all his past including the memory of his daughter are a blur in his fragile mind. All he has left is the imagination of a ten year old boy. As he drifts away into coma, it seems impossible to get back what he has lost. Or is it?
The film is a journey between two different dimensions. Tom travels through his imaginary world seeking answers and finding memories, while his daughter, Gem, tries to recover the bond she had once shared with her father in the real world. As they have become more and more distant
from each other over the years, and as there is even greater obstacles separating them now, Tom's coma and his imminent death, Gem's project feels doomed to failure. However, through Tom's darkest secrets, Gem discovers the path she must follow in order to find her father again.
There are some questions we must ask ourselves before entering the world of "Imaginaerum." What is most important in life? Can the power of memories protect us during our last moments? Will our imagination help us find the spark of life in the deepest darkness? Can we still find
love after bitter forgiveness? More...

Lacuna Coil made the band's first appearance in Helsinki since February 15th, 2010, on the Shallow Life World Tour. Unaccompanied, Lacuna Coil performed a 2-hour set, complete with a 5-song acoustic set, ranging all the way from "In A Reverie" to the 2012 release, "Dark Adrenaline" (reviewed here). This night kicked off the Dark Legacy European tour.
In a twist of fate, Lacuna Coil was yet again in Helsinki without the full band. In the 2010 show, Marco “Maus” Biazzi was unable to play due to an injury, and likewise this year, he was recovering from a shoulder injury and unable to participate. As well, Cristiano “Criz” Mozzati was taking this one out because of the recent birth of his daughter. As such, another drummer friend, Ryan Folden, was substituting for this tour.
Lacuna Coil wins some big points to viewers for being a very crowd-friendly band. Vocalist Cristina Scabbia in particular tells stories about the songs and the meaning behind them, letting the crowd get not only a live performance, but a bit of insight into the deeper meanings of the songs the fans love.
