Tobias Scheid of The Prophecy 23 has issued the following statement about his recent decision to leave the band:
"Hey friends out there – After 5 wicked years and a fantastic summer with The Prophecy 23 I decided to knock of playing the bass guitar and to leave the band. For me it was a quite hard but necessary decision. Recently it wasn't possible for me to summon up the energy and the passion The Prophecy 23 deserves, anymore.
"I want to thank everyone who accompanied me on my way with The Prophecy 23, especially the Brutal-Thrash-Maniacs Hannes, Dennis and Flo for a wicked and crazy time, kick ass gigs and all the partying. Thanks to the roadcrew, the merch ladies, Massacre Records and last but not least our fantastic, supportive fans.
"Certainly I will play the upcoming gigs with the band until a new bass player and singer is found. There will be a last farewell concert soon. I hope to see you guys there to have some drinks together. Stay brutal!"
The Prophecy 23 also added, "The band regrets but respects his decision! The recent years were great and successful for The Prophecy 23 and Tobias has contributed a decisive part through his personality, his bass playing and his incredibly rough growls. We had a great time as bandmates and will continue to have a killer time as buddies and friends while grillin', boozin' and hangin' around. And as BRUTAL THRASH MANIACS!"

U.K. melodic death band Malefice announced that touring stand in guitarist Andy Wilson (ex-XL) will replace the departed Alex Vuskans. The band made the following announcement on its Facebook Page:
"After a baptism of fire standing in for Alex Vuskans on the bands recent UK run with Sylosis MALEFICE have announced that ANDY WILSON will take over on a permanent basis.
"ANDY WILSON comments:
'I am very excited to be taking on the Malefice slot full time, the Sylosis tour couldn't have gone any better and the musical chemistry is undeniable. I can't wait to see what the future holds for the band.'
"And frontman DALE BUTLER adds:
'There's always controversy surrounding a band member leaving in any band. But I can’t stress enough how there is none in this situation. Alex felt he could no longer continue to give 100% to Malefice, and between us we decided that it would be better for him to leave. Alex is closer to me than most of my family, he'll always be my brother no matter what and nothing will change between us all on a personal level.
Those of you that saw us on the Sylosis tour will have seen Andy at work. The guy is a fucking machine, and I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have as my lead guitarist! Andy has already brought new ideas to this band that we'll be working on together in the future!'
"And ALEX VUSKANS bows out with this:
'I just want to say a massive massive thank you to everyone that's come to the shows, bought our albums and supported myself and the boys over the last 10 years that I've been in Malefice. You guys are awesome and have helped create memories that last with me for a lifetime. I also want to go on record and state that there is NO bad blood between myself and the other members in the band; they still and always will be my brothers no matter what. I simply feel that now is the time for me to try new things in my life, whatever they may be. I wish nothing but success to the guys for the future and look forward to following their continued journey as a fan and not an active member. It's been emotional!!' "

FullForce vocalist Michael Andersson posted an update on the band's doings, including the writing of the band's sophomore release, now that the tour with Edguy and Kottak has ended. In a post on the band's official website, he provided the following status:
"A few weeks have passed and we’re back home after a VERY successful mini-tour with EDGUY and KOTTAK. We had an AWESOME time both on stage and also when travelling plus everything else. It was truly heart-warming to meet all fans and watch the crowd during our shows how well recieved we was and also to see so many fans singing along in our songs. We will hit the road again for sure but, right now we are waiting for yet another musicvideo to be released in a month or so which will include clips from our tour etc. We would like to thank the crew guys and EDGUY for inviting us to this tour and also our booking agency ”All Access” for making this possible and of course our label SPV / Steamhammer. Also a thanks to Skrikhult Productions since they were responsible for the Swedish shows.
"Nonetheless the last show in Essen (Germany) was cancelled because, our friend Tobias Sammet (Edguy) got an infection and had to postpone 3 shows (Essen included) so, therefor we abruptly had to go back home to Sweden. But, we will be back in Germany for sure in a not too distant future and hopefully also visiting more countries for live shows:). So, after all we are really satisfied after this successful tour where every venue we visited more or less was sold out:).
"Apart from releasing a third music video from ”One” we are now fully focusing on working on the new songs to enter the recording studio sometime during early 2012. Everything feels top notch and we are really excited and eager to record and release the new album sometime during 2012."

I have a special place in my heart for Las Vegas, probably because I lived in Nevada for almost twenty years. You hear all kinds of cliched phrases about Las Vegas being the "entertainment capital" of the U.S., but that depends on what kind of entertainment you're looking for. If you're just some tourist, you'll go hog wild for the latest flamboyant guy taming a white tiger or some pop star appearing at Caesar's Palace. Or you could be the weekend partier from LA, descending on the city for a night of debauchery at one of the dozens of night clubs and ultra lounges. But the kind of entertainment a metal listener wants is going to be markedly different, and a scene does exist in Las Vegas once again.
See, the Las Vegas valley had a great underground scene back in the late eighties and throughout the nineties. Besides Mark Slaughter putting it on the map in terms of commercial metal, Mitch Harris released two LP's with his LV band The Righteous Pigs before leaving to join Napalm Death. Clubs such as Calamity Jayne's brought in weekly shows before they were busted for coke, and the Huntridge was legendary in terms of hardcore and extreme metal shows. All the local bands played at the local college bars around UNLV and at the Elks Lodge in Henderson, and had their music promoted on the radio station before the general manager switched the format to all jazz back in 1998. Local bands such as Goatlord, Requiem and Hemlock (still active and billing themselves "the hardest working band in metal") had no more exposure after this happened, and the local scene died off for a number of years after this.
Technology intervened and created a renaissance for the Las Vegas scene. College radio isn't imperative any more when you can hear everything on satellite radio and the internet now. Besides the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and the Hard Rock Casino bringing in the bigger names, there are tons of local venues hosting concerts now. Every weekend there are shows at the Cheyenne Saloon with local bands on the roster supporting the big name acts that come in from L.A. and elsewhere. That five-hour drive from California has brought in bands ranging from Asesino to Enthraller at this venue, which was the site for the Las Vegas Death Fest 3 and the Doom In June shows. Local favorites like Avenger In Blood and Soiled Carnage can be found there with a whole host of other garage metal bands opening for the big gigs.
In the past five years, the scene has exploded with bands such as metalcore heavy hitters Molotov Solution putting Las Vegas on the map. Another big surprise has been the immense popularity of Guttural Secrete in the national death metal scene. Granted, they've been around almost a decade, but it is literally unheard of for a band this extreme to have almost a quarter of a million hits on Youtube - especially an independent one. In many ways, Las Vegas does have the ideal climate for a scene if any city has. It's 24 hours of non-stop drinking, gambling and every vice imaginable. What it lacks in historic culture it exceeds in bacchanalian virtues. It is the setting for the glitterati and the plastic too, and for every serious extreme metal and metalcore band working the club circuit, the desert floor is littered with alot of screamo bands and younger kids that need to hone their style.
Below we will take you to the music of a few Las Vegas bands that haven't been featured prominently in our pages, so you can get an idea of what this desert community has to offer the metal scene.

Tales of the Grotesque define themselves as a brutal melodic death metal band that were "recently released from a dark room where they defined their sound and status as a band." They've been around since 2010 and it's their mission to give you the feeling of an eerie tale crawling in your skin. They were recently voted October band of the month by Las Vegas website FiggZillaMusic.com.
Mark Jansen, the guitarist and co-vocalist of Dutch symphonic metal outfit Epica, has posted a message online in which he discusses the progress the band have made on their new studio album. His post reads as follows:
"The vocal recordings have started! Tonight I have recorded the grunts of the opening song of the upcoming album. After a travel of 4.5 hours Arien and I arrived in the studio at 22:00. We were still full of energy and decided to start recording already. Tomorrow, Simone will arrive as well so we'll continue with the vocal recordings.
"The recordings in general are going very well and the result sounds like we were hoping for. We know the pressure is quite high after Design Your Universe but we're confident that the new album will pay off the expectations."
"The new album will be released by Nuclear Blast on the March 9th, 2012. If you want to be the first to hear the new stuff be sure to get tickets to the release party in 013 (NL) on March 16th here."
LastDayHere has checked in with the following announcement about a lineup change and update about recording a new album:
"There are some changes in our camp. Mohor left the and due to personal reasons and the band did not stop here: we went further and found an amazing drummer. He's name is Sašo Corso. He is an open minded and very positive person. Just what we need.
"Currently we are in the making of the new album. All the tracks are recorded. It's just up to us to rehearse this new album and on to the road.
"A litlle more about Sašo. You can find him on facebook and all over. He is really an improvement to the band since we really neede some fresh 'positive' spirit in the band. So there is no stopping us now. See you all from the stage all across the EU and the rest of the world."

Vengeful has issued the following update about the upcoming release of a new album:
"Greetings! We're finally back with some news on the album. The name of the monster is 'Vengeful.' It's comprised of two parts. Face A being 'Towards Obliteration' and Face B bearing the name 'Leaping through the void.' The first one features our high-speed/face-melting side and the later leans on the slower/moodier approach heard on older songs such as: Counterfeit Deity or Transcending. We have set November 29th as the release date for the album. The track listing is as follows:
