As was previously reported, Don Decker of Anal Blast passed away on Sunday, October 11th. Keyboardist Blasphyre of Catholicon has issued the following statement about Decker:
"Catholicon would like to extend our condolences to Don Decker's friends and family. Don was the singer of Anal Blast, with whom we've had the honor of sharing the stage... We found out that he passed away on Sunday after a very prolonged battle with liver problems. Always a nice guy and never failed to make people laugh with his albums, antics, and comments onstage. Will be missed and remembered."
Hail! has announced that drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer, Testament) will be accompanying them for their upcoming tour dates in November and December. Bostaph will be joining bassist David Ellefson, singer Ripper Owens (former JUDAS PRIEST, current YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) and guitarist Andreas Kisser (SEPULTURA).
Asked how Paul Bostaph came to play with Hail!, Ellefson replied “After Jimmy DeGrasso became unavailable due to his touring commitments with Alice Cooper, Roy Mayorga came aboard and just slammed for us. His playing throughout the Scandinavian dates was unbelievable, but now he’s heading back into the studio with Stone Sour, so he’s unavailable for the next round of shows. We immediately thought of Paul. With Alex Skolnik out playing with Trans-Siberian Orchestra a small window opened in the Testament schedule where Paul became available and we jumped at the opportunity.”
Kisser chimed in, “Come on, he’s Paul Bostaph! Think about it, he’s played with three of the greatest thrash bands of all-time, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus. What symbolizes more of the spirit of HAIL! then that?! It’s an honor to play with him."
Ripper continued, “Our goal is to make every HAIL! show a special once-in-a-lifetime event. We strive to make every show different and no two shows have been the same. Look at our set lists on this last run, we must have played 15-20 new songs and half of them we never even rehearsed! I even played a guitar solo one night! We had guest jams with friends from DIMMU BORGIR, MERCYFUL FATE, GORGOROTH, MESHUGGAH, DRAIN S.T.H., KING DIAMOND and we want every fan to know that what they experience at a HAIL! concert will never happen again. We will continue to keep it fresh and exciting and playing with Paul will certainly do that.”
Bostaph shared his excitement, “To play with Tim, Andreas and Dave? Talk about an honor, these guys are metal gods! I thought it was super cool when I first heard about HAIL! and what they were doing. Now to be a part of it is amazing. I’m really looking forward to it and can’t wait.”
The exact tour dates with Bostaph will be announced shortly.
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued the following statement thanking his Australian fans:
"I wanted to take the time this morning to thank all of our wonderful Australian Droogies; I have seen so many familiar faces and friends down here and that it is such an enjoyable time this time. I was looking for Emily (didn't see her), and I was at the beach yesterday with Shawn Drover and Skippy (from Perth), and the many, many fan club members that won the meet and greet passes that we got to meet and have fun with.
"A huge thank you to Roadrunner Australia; to Ben Ralph, and his staff: Bob and Darren, and all of the great press and radio/TV people and their crews (what a great job you all did). I'd like to thank all of the staff and crew for our band, my manager Mark Adelman and my agent Mike Dewdney of ITB, the promoter Chris Moses of Blue Murder and our promoter rep Charney (she is f'ing awesome), and all of the internal travel people we worked with on this leg of the tour.
"I especially wanted to thank Slayer, their crew, and their manager Rick Sales. I am sorry that Tom lost his voice, and he is such a dymanic singer that there is not really anyone who can join them and do what Mr. Araya does. I did hope that Kerry would have be able to do a song when we were in Adelaide, but I guess I will just have to settle on how good things are for now and be happy with that. Most importantly I need to thank my family for letting me follow my dreams, because they are all coming true.
"I love you all."

When answering questions from fans and users of MetalSucks.net recently, Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small has revealed that the next season of Metalocalypse will include special guest voice work from Mastodon, Slash, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. An excerpt from the interview is as follows:
Q: Can we expect to see more voice work from the members of the metal community in the new season, perhaps your tourmates in Mastodon?
A: "That’s funny that you mentioned that, [because] we just recorded Mastodon in the upcoming episode and they were… we were blown away. We get a lot of people and we’re always surprised that they have this kind of other talent or can do voiceover stuff. Mastodon surprised us more than anybody else — they were really funny. Just hanging out with those guys on this tour has been really fun. They have a very good sense of humor. A lot of people in rock and roll, metal and all that stuff spend all their time on the bus just watching comedy and Monty Python and stuff like that. We have Mastodon coming. We have members of In Flames coming this season. I have some of my guitar heroes playing parts on this season, doing voiceovers, like Satriani, Vai, and Slash. I’m a guitar nerd so I had to reach out to those guys to see if I can get them on the show. They were great too."

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week’s story is from Jussi Heikkinen, the guitarist of Soulgrind:
"Slayer pit, of course. I remember one, when they were playing here in Finland at sauna Open Air, tampere. I just got a ticket from cops for driving too fast. They also took my driving licence for a couple of months, so I was REALLY pissed off when arriving to the gig. So I ran to the pit and got violent. In a positive way :) I jammed, slammed, hit, and banged with all of my heart and my over 100 kg weight. And after the gig, some youngsters came to me and thanked me about my great attitude in the pit. And thanked for me for hitting them HARD! That’s Slayer pit, indeed."
Soulgrind will perform at the UK's Femme Metal Festival at The Peel in Kingston, London on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

"As Shadows Burn," the sophomore album by the female-fronted progressive metal band from Los Angeles ECHOES OF ETERNITY, recently debuted on the Billboard Top New Artist “Heatseeker’s” chart at #134 the week following its release date. This industry chart lists the best-selling albums by new artists who have never appeared on the Top 100 of the Billboard 200.
States EOE founding member/guitarist/songwriter Brandon S. Patton:
"We live in an age where it seems almost alien for the general public to purchase music legitimately. In that broader context, it’s a major achievement for ECHOES OF ETERNITY to have charted on Billboard at all, which is something that did not happen on our first album and is certainly a shift in the right direction. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who bought a copy of As Shadows Burn and enabled this to happen."
"As Shadows Burn" was produced and mixed by former Machine Head/Soulfly guitarist Logan Mader (Gojira, Divine Heresy, Five Finger Death Punch) and features album artwork by Gustavo Sazez (Old Man’s Child, Firewind, God Forbid).
You can view a three-and-a-half minute video trailer of footage from the band’s bonus DVD on ECHOES OF ETERNITY’s below.
