"Enriching their symphonic, epic metal through the use of piano, violin, viola, cello, and acoustic guitar and more, The Living Fields take their distinctive style to great new heights on Running Out Of Daylight, the album released in late July via Candlelight Records. While the members of the band are scattered across multiple continents, having never played a live show or even recorded a full release in the same session, their talent and creativity are unstoppable when combined. The new album has received acclaim form media outlets worldwide helping elevate this underground act's name higher into the ranks of metal's contemporary elite."
One of the heaviest, craziest bands is on yet another long tour throughout the South. North Carolina's Weedeater has been spreading pure southern sludge since the 90s and are stronger and nastier than ever. I caught up with notorious guitarist/vocalist Dixie Dave before their show in New Orleans to talk about constant touring, what you can do if you don't like their album, and many other plans for his bands in the forseeable future. A transcription is available below. More...

Long Island’s This is Hell is set to release "Black Mass" on October 11th, 2011. The band has now teamed up with Altpress.com for a track-by-track breakdown of the album. An excerpt from the album description follows.
“Acid Rain” Too many people go through life making blind assumptions and bold statements based on hearsay and ignorance. I wrote this song about two separate instances that coincided thematically because they were cases of people throwing around words without being informed [or] expecting response. What's more gratifying than a bitter, old has-been shit-talking a group of people for their life choices, or an ignorant asshole adamantly protesting gay-rights and really getting theirs in the end? You push too far, [and] inevitably you're going to get pushed back.
“Black History” The media and politicians all specialize in control. As much as they try to hide it, we have essentially reverted to a caste system. Despite what is projected through figureheads and "icons,” the castes are greatly rooted in race separation. I am extremely happy, appreciative and proud to be an American, but we have an extremely dark history—and we have an extremely dark present—and it is only a matter of time before people realize it and revolt.
“Salt The Earth” This is a song about grudges and revenge, plain and simple. Sometimes a long-since-forgotten foe reemerges to air their grievances to anyone who will listen, in a pathetic attempt to validate their jealousy and moronic attitude. I've become so fed up with this type of bullshit, I figured I'd put an end to it in my mind once and for all by writing about ending the grudge by destroying this person both mentally and physically.

Southern California death metal act Gravehill's first proper debut album, titled "When All Roads Lead to Hell," is set for release on October 20th, 2011. Since the band's last release on Ibex Moon Records, guitarist Matt Harvey (Exhumed) has joined the group full-time combining more depth and a wall of thick, demented riffing with Mike Abominator's vocal onslaught and Thorgrimm's work behind the kit.
Gravehill's "When All Road Leads to Hell" comes in 12" LP release in heavy vinyl 180gram, 350 gram deluxe jacket with A3 inlay full color poster. The release is limited to 500 copies worldwide: 200 bronze colored and 300 classic black.
Archgoat will be releasing the mini-album "Heavenly Vulva (Christ's Last Rites)" on November 1st, 2011, and the artwork is available below. The band's publicist also commented on the release:
"Archgoat's new mini-album Heavenly Vulva (Christ’s Last Rites) goes straight for the throat of the self-proclaimed messiah and his wretched mother. Featuring six trademark God-slaying tracks torn directly from the Virgin’s violated womb, this brand new EP is gloriously crude, divinely tumultuous and deliciously deviant, as we have come to expect from the filthy, fearless Finn black crusaders.
"Defiled, invasive unsanctified black/death delivered in a corrupt, vile and demonic fashion, these anti-epiphanies embed themselves in the sacred flesh, spilling blood from the demised dog’s quivering body, funeral bells chiming as paradise is ransacked and the deceptive lie of centuries is exposed. Pounding, ripping, gurgling and mocking, the truth reveals itself. Blood-soaked, battered and humiliated, the deposed former denizens of Heaven cower in a corner. A frantic, blasphemous onslaught on the blind, deluded fraud-worshippers and knee-bending whoremongers who follow the path of the Liar!

Peter Tägtgren explained the situation as follows: “We're very sorry to announce that we have been forced to cancel our two shows in Portugal on November 1st in Porto an November 2nd in Lisbon. As some of you may have noticed it's been difficult to find out when, where and how to get tickets for the shows. The local promoter has been hard to reach, and now we found out that he has cancelled one of the shows without even talking to us first or letting us know after. Because of these uncertain conditions we decided to go out with this announcement. We were really looking forward to end the European part of the tour in Lisbon, and we're really sad that we can't come to Portugal this time.”

"You might know already that we decided to leave from the previous label, Metal Heaven, and we are currently searching the new one to work with. He is truly one of the best players in the world and awesome friend, but he has so many iron's in the fire and he had to cancel lots of BP gigs because of that and we had to do those shows as a 4 piece. We wish him all the best in his future musical journey and thank you for the times in BP!
"What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger they say...and we are now very strong unit and we're ready to rock you all! Keep it heavy and stay tuned fo more news!"
Europeans love their metal, that's for sure. Over the Northern Hemisphere summer months, there are over sixty metal festivals staged - most of them open air, multi-day and multi-stage. That's a lot of bands, beer, dodgy kebabs, and horns in the air! Forget "this band is better than that band" or "that genre sucks" or "those people are posers" - at a metal festival, everyone is your metal brother (or sister) and as long as the music is loud, pretty much anything goes.
Increasing numbers of metalheads from the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the globe are making the trek to the old continent every year to be part of the experience. But with so many festivals to choose from, which ones should you go to?
Obviously everyone has different tastes, but here's some pointers from a four-year veteran that might help you plan the metal trip of a lifetime. More...

Italian band Vanexa has begun writing material for the band's fourth full-length release and first in seventeen years. The forthcoming release already has a title, "Too Heavy to Fly", and according to bassist Sergio Pagnacco (Labyrinth), the album is "dedicated to all those who have always been committed to play metal in Italy."
Pagnacco explains further: "The vast majority of metal musicians in Italy already know from the outset that the hard way to go will never give a chance to become real professionals in the music business, despite this uncompromising, not to betray their true passion. Let it be clear that the same holds true for journalists, speakers, DJ etc.. all those who gravitate metal in the world. 'Too Heavy to Fly' is the title for yet another example of Italian Metal albums that will be too heavy to be able to take off for the Italian music business [which] is tired and lacking in courage. "

"The new album sees the return of original THRESHOLD vocalist Damian Wilson (HEADSPACE, STAR ONE) who rejoined the band in 2007 following the departure of Andrew 'Mac' McDermott who sadly passed away on 3 August.
"THRESHOLD's previous studio album 'Dead Reckoning' was released in 2007 and featured guest vocals by Dan Swanö (NIGHTINGALE, BLOODBATH). The album entered the charts at position 64 in Germany, 95 in The Netherlands and 37 in the UK rock chart.

"This is one of the news a lot of you are waiting for years... APOLOKIA maybe Italy's most controversial, nihilist and elitistic Black Metal band ever, is ready to debut on My Kingdom Music in the spring of 2012.
"After two legendary demos in the 90's and a MCD released a couple of years ago, APOLOKIA will return with their long awaited full debut album entitled 'Kathaarian Vortex' ready to be released in Spring 2012. The same band defines it as 'an unholy process towards the mystic and destructive forces of the inner left hand path and its own atmosphere'. It’s Grim . Icecold . Nihilist . Unholy . Ultraviolent, a journey into the kathaarian void of mystic darkness and evil devoted to Satan and Chaos since 1994.
Exclusively for those into pure uncompromising Black Metal Art in the vein of Immortal, Burzum, early Mayhem."

White had the following comments on the track: “I am not someone who remembers dreams but I guess I must have them. But this song is about the dreams we have for ourselves. Paul Logue sent me a huge rolling riff with a really heavy drum rhythm.
"I wanted to make each verse about the way we feel when our desires or wishes in life veer off in a different path. I was reading the newspaper that a man had killed the girlfriend who had cheated on and then left him. I guess most of us have felt that way but have never actually acted on the impulse.
"So I included the horror of the act of slaughter, the whispering of the last words in the bridge and then the remorse. I guess I would say. The first impulse is probably not the one to act on.”
