GOD FORBID guitarist DOC COYLE, who was filling in for LAMB OF GOD guitarist Mark Morton on their opening trek with METALLICA, has issues an official statement through MetalSucks.net regarding the much-publicized incident in which a fan threw a cup of liquid at his face during a performance.
“I’m sure many of you have seen the video of me getting pegged on stage while I was on Metallica tour filling in for Mark from Lamb of God. Although 95% of the comments were really supportive, I just wanted to clarify a few things about the incident. First off, it was a beer, not a water. A big ol’ tall boy plastic cup of beer, and whoever threw it must have been a quarterback because it was full and hit me square in the eye at full steam. It felt like I got sucker punched. I had a mark by my cheek bone and it was swollen all night. I surprised I didn’t have a black eye. The way it hit me is probably the reason why I reacted the way I did. I’m no tough guy, but I wasn’t really thinking. I just reacted. I really don’t know what I would’ve done if anyone would’ve have owned up to to throwing it, but I have no clue if I would’ve hit the person. I can say that I’m not violent at all, and don’t think violence is a productive way to solve problems. I’m glad nothing came of it, but obviously the person was pretty cowardly to throw it and not own up to it. Anyway, shit happens. I just think it’s kind of funny how it spread on the internet. Beer in the face and all, it was still more than an honor to play with Lamb of God and open for Metallica.”

Boston metal band Ravage has issued the following road report regarding their troubles on their current US tour:
"If you've been following my previous blogs, you know we've been stuck here in beautiful but boring Eugene Oregon since last Sunday, so I'll recap what has happened for all of you over the last week - because it has been awful and we can only apologize to those promoters who wished to help us out with shows and those fans who were waiting to see us."
"Last Saturday night, after our Sacramento CA show was canceled by the venue (because they lose their license), we decided to head north to Seattle. We broke down on I5 heading toward Seattle for the show in which we were supposed to open for Stratovarius on Sunday. We were in Grant's Pass Oregon and quickly had our battery and altenator replaced so we could continue on." More...

Crown the Lost has issued the following update about recruiting a new bassist:
"We would like to announce the addition of bassist Tim Boyle to the CTL ranks, who is replacing the departed Dom Scarano. Tim comes to us via Grave Desire (who coincidentally have our producer and current Mantic Ritual singer/guitarist Dave Watson in the ranks) and is well-versed in the CTL catalog, so it was a natural decision. We would like to wish Dom the best in his future endeavors, as his gaudy sense of humor and keen eye for the ladies will be missed.
"Live activity as well as writing for the ever-important album #3 will resume, for are working with a fill-in drummer (key word: fill-in), but since we're tired of announcing member changes, we'll be clandestine for once. Great album, Entombed's Clandestine. Best song? 'Sinners Bleed,' of course.
"Thanks and thrash, David E. Gehlke & Crown the Lost"

I don’t want to say it was the highlight of my career, but it truly was a milestone. Words are escaping me while trying to describe this event, which is strange, since I never shut the fuck up.”

Sweden's Sanctrum has issued the following update about their guitarist undergoing wrist surgery:
"It is time to give you guys a little update on what is going on right now. We have just finished 'The New Breed Tour 2009' with the amazing dudes in Yersinia and Last View (Spank you very much!). 8 shows across Sweden and 1 show in Denmark. We had such a blast and we met so many cool people (kroeka?) and played with so many great bands (you know who you are!). We want to thank everybody that showed up and all of you that supported us and bought some merch. Some pictures and videos from the tour is coming up...stay tuned!
"Then the bad news as always in the Sanctrum camp. Volkan has had some problems with his wrist and during the last gigs on the tour he totally fucked up his wrist so he is going under the blade in November and he won't be able to play guitar for a couple of months (yeah that sucks big time!). Emil is going away to England for a month and a half, there he will teach children how to worship Satan (or teach them English or something). But Sanctrum will play a couple of shows that we already have planned with some stand-ins. Who? you ask. We will let you know when it's time... When Volkan is back on track and Emil is back in Sweden we will start to record a couple of new songs and maybe a video. So keep your eyes open for the new shit...it will be brutal!"
Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am exploring the Sri Lankan metal scene. Today I'll be introducing three bands spanning metal sub-genres from Colombo, Sri Lanka, where the metal scene is the most active.
Fallen Grace is what most people would label as a melodic death metal outfit, although they don't fit the description of your typical Gothernburg melodic death metal band. Hailing from Sri Lanka's capitol, Colombo, these guys claim to be influenced by the likes of artists from the Gothernburg melo-death scene as well as bands such as Motorhead, I, Venom, Bathory and Dissection. Fallen Grace is widely known for their intense stage acts and uncompromising, attitude which has managed to attract a massive extreme metal fan base for them here in Sri Lanka. Although Fallen Grace is known as one of the oldest metal bands in Sri Lanka, they have only released one studio album to date, as the band claims to lack cooperative band members and proper recording studios in the country. Nonetheless, as friends who grew up together in the same school, the three founding members, Sohan, Rakitha, and Shiva are currently recording their debut EP titled "Heresy Unveiled: Do We Believe?," along with drummer Nisala and Guitarist Shamil. You can check out some of their music on their MySpace player or in a short video clip of one of their sound checks below. More...
North Carolina black metallers Mysteriarch have announced that they will entering the studio on November 1st to record their new full-length album "Mournful Embrace of Aeons." The band has posted a rough sample of the title track online as a free MP3 download, which can be found at this location.
Dickie Peterson, the singer and bass player of Blue Cheer, who are considered another one of the first heavy metal bands, sadly passed away this morning in Germany at the age of sixty one. The cause of death has yet to be announced but he had been ill for some time.
Blue Cheer released their first album, "Vincebus Eruptum" in 1968 and released a further five albums until a hiatus. The band returned with a new album in 1984 and released two more albums in 1990 and 1991 before another break. The bands last record was a collection of re-recorded material entitled, "What Doesn't Kill You..." in 2007. Peterson himself had also recorded two solo albums entitled, "Child Of The Darkness" and "Tramp."
Greek extreme metallers Rotting Christ have issued the following statement about their song "Ad Noctis" appearing in the video game Brutal Legend:
"Rotting Christ are proud to announce their participation in the X-BOX, PS3 game BRUTAL LEGENDS. The decision of EA Games to include our song 'AD NOCTIS' in the soundtrack alongside many of the most legendary Heavy Metal acts is an honour for our horde. So keep the Metal spirit alive and play it …Hard as Metal!"
Brutal Legend is set to be released on October 13th in North American and October 16th in Europe. The full track listing and a video trailer for Brutal Legend can be viewed below. More...

Finnish metal band Dead Shape Figure has announced the departure of bassist, Neissu. Vocalist Galzis comments, "It is truely the most devastating thing an old friend can say to another: I'll be leaving. Being friends in a band is something totally different than being friends otherwise. It's more like a good marriage, right?"
"Anyhow, Neissu has found himself in a situation where no bass playing or music in general raises any interest. For fifteen years of playing in the same bands this is the very first time i'll have to except the fact that there's no 80 inch of knowledge and power at our prescence."
Dead Shape Figure are currently putting the finishing touches to their new songs and will be entering the studio soon.
Heavy metal juggernauts Dethklok have exploded onto the Billboard Top 200 again with the release of “Dethalbum II,” selling nearly 45,000 copies in its first week. The new record from the stars of the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200, six spots higher then their debut album “Dethalbum” back in 2007.
Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small had this to say about the chart debut of DETHKLOK’S “Dethalbum II”: "I'm both happy and humiliated that DETHALBUM 2 reached number 15. Happy because we beat the first DETHALBUM numbers and humiliated to have been beaten by our second album numbers by ourselves. Either way we're still not as good as the Archies and I never want to forget that. Having said all of that, dear god I am fantastic and talented."
The September 27 release of Metalocalypse: Dethklok’s “Dethalbum II ” coincides with the start of Season 3 of Metalocalypse on Adult Swim in November. The third season of Metalocalypse will pick up right where Season 2 left, and this season the episodes will be thirty minutes long.
