Starting today AOLMUSIC.com is hosting a full album listening party for ANGRA'S "Aqua," which is in stores tomorrow on SPV/Steamhammer. You can listen to the entire album here.
This is ANGRA'S first new album in four years, following up their 2006 release, "Aurora Consurgens." The album will be available in three formats: a standard jewel case edition, a double LP edition that includes 3 bonus tracks, and it will be available as a digital download.
ANGRA guitarist Rafael Bittencourt recently spoke about the concept and recording of "AQUA":
"We wanted a title that would describe in a very concise way, that concept. 'Aqua' is the Latin word for water and summarizes the whole idea behind the Shakespearean play and our feelings at this remarkable moment.
"Although this album sounds very different then our previous album 'Aurora Consurgens,' there are not many musical differences between 'AQUA' and our last three albums. We tried to keep the idea of combining metal with progressive, classic, Brazilian, ethnic, pop and many other styles. The big difference is that this time we were really hit by inspiration. So we wrote almost thirty good songs, and we ended up picking the best ten out of the big list. All the atmosphere of companionship and teamwork was captured in the tracks. We really helped each other on every detail and that's what made the songs so powerful and special.
"Another important difference is that the drummer Ricardo Confessori is back in the band. This was only possible because, after the recording sessions of the Bittencourt Project's Brainworms where he performed on a couple of tracks. Since then, we have regained our trust and friendship. We had a few rehearsals with ANGRA where he jammed around songs from the old and new era of the band. Also, we presented some new ideas for him to arrange and he showed that he had kept his creativity and graceful musicianship. We had good laughs remembering things we've done together in the past and how the Brazilian-mixed kind grooves were a very significant quality of our pre-Rebirth Era.
"So, 'AQUA' represents where we are now. And we hope that it will be remembered as one of our great classic albums, because it was done with great passion, focus and dedication. We expect that every detail of these carefully crafted new songs may help you out through your own times of change. So, get prepared to dive deep into an ocean of new sensations and float away with the various liquid atmospheres that keep changing as you listen through and it will always keep changing as you listen to it more times. Welcome to the revolving waters of 'AQUA!'"

Dutch death metallers GOD DETHRONED have launched a landing page for their upcoming new album "Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross." The page features the title track of their upcoming album, also embedded below.
Comments singer/guitarist Henri Sattler on the title track, "The 1905 Schlieffen Plan made by the Prussian Count von Schlieffen after England signed the previous Entente Cordiale in 1904 with France. The plan was based on a battle between Hannibal and the Roman army in 216 B.C. that was later modified and eventually failed when put into practice. It remains uncertain if the changes to the Schlieffen Plan or the plan itself was the reason for not being successful."
Guitarist Stefan Weinerhall of the Swedish metal band FALCONER has issued the following update:
"Recording time is coming up. Most songs for the next FALCONER album are written and rehearsed soon as the studio time is drawing nearer, starting to feel a bit stressed! The album will be mixed in the end of January so I'd guess we're up for a late spring release."
"The title of the new album will be 'Armod' and will be completely sung in Swedish except for the bonus tracks that will simply be English versions of the best (according to us) new songs. This time we have concentrated on the traditional folk side of our music including more traditional folk songs (the majority of the material is still our own), more fiddles and flutes. Be calm, the horrid sound of accordions will firmly be left behind!" More...
Norwegian black metal fiends, 1349, who are co-headlining the "Weltenbrand World Tour" with Tom Warrior's TRIPTYKON, have launched a tour diary on the blog section of their Myspace page. Read an excerpt of the diary below:
"1349 are in Canada. We had a terrific night in Montreal last night; the show was fiery and the crowd seemed to revel in dark ecstasy. We also got to experience a particularly powerful show by Triptykon, which fueled us up for our own performance. Voivod’s own hometown is always a boost! We bring the killer-vibe with us to The Wreck Room in Toronto tonight, where we know that 1349 has a strong following. The band has had several great shows in this town, but tonight happens to be the first where Frost gets to meet the Toronto-crowd."
"Yesterday even saw the live-premiere of the song Pandemonium Was Bells, and we are happy to state that it went down really well with the audience. The song might appear in our live-set every now and then when the stars are right…but there are a few other gems in store for you as well." More...

Austin, Texas based heavy metal outfit The Sword has announced that they have amicably split with drummer Trivett Wingo. As a result of this, all of the band's scheduled tour dates have been cancelled.
A message from the band reads as follows: “We wish Trivett nothing but the best, and it is with heavy hearts that we bid him farewell. He is a phenomenal musician and has been an integral part of this band’s success. He helped to lay the foundation that we will continue to build upon, and we wouldn’t be where we are without him. We wish he could continue the adventure with us, but we understand that the life of a touring musician is not for everyone. It’s been a hell of a ride, and we’re sad to see this part of the journey end. The show must go on, though, and we'll be back on the road as soon as humanly possible.”
Wingo himself states: “It is with deep sadness that I am announcing my departure from The Sword. After nearly seven years and some of the most amazing adventures of a lifetime, I have arrived at a place where I am physically and emotionally unable to continue on as part of The Sword. If I could go any further, I would as I love the music and JD, Bryan and Kyle are people that I deeply respect, but I have reached a point where I just can’t do this anymore. I would like to thank the wonderful people who made this experience what it has been: the fans, the people that I have worked and all of the bands and musicians that have inspired me over the years. I thank you and apologize for any disappointment that this may cause anyone, not least of which The Sword.”

Guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson has checked in from the road in Europe with their reaction to the news: "We received news last week of the great first week sales in the US with accompanying chart positions. Most important is the fact that we out-did our own previous achievements (with 2008’s Vertebrae) in the US market. We’re not competing with anything else than our own ambitions. We want to express our sincere appreciation to the wonderful people at Nuclear Blast US for their relentless efforts in promoting Enslaved, as this is also their achievement!"
Do a little digging and you’ll find a metal scene in just about every country around the developed world. So it should come as no surprise that there is, in fact, a thriving underground swell of support for the dark arts known broadly as metal in South Korea. From the southern port city of Busan to the sprawling capital of Seoul, metal lives in the southern portion of the Korean peninsula. Here’s a look at three of the bands keeping the scene alive and growing in Seoul.
Melodic black metal band Oathean is one of, if not the longest running metal act in South Korea. Oathean was founded in 1993 as a death metal band, then known as Odin, and didn’t adopt its current sound until 1997. A year later the band released its first album under the Oathean moniker, “The Eyes of Tremendous Sorrow.” Since then, Oathean has released four more full-length albums, the latest a self-titled effort that came out this past summer. Oathean enjoyed a brief glimpse of broad exposure in 2005 when their album, “Falling Away into the Grave of Nothingness,” was released in North America via The End records. All other Oathean records bar their debut have been released on band founder, vocalist, and guitarist Do So Kim’s own label, Jusin Productions, marketed as the first extreme metal label in South Korea.
Kim is also the man who brings many of the major touring metal bands to Seoul, as well as being the driving force behind the Asia Metal Festival ongoing series of concerts featuring bands from around Asia and further abroad. What’s more, he is the owner of a rock and metal bar in the trendy Hongdae district of the city, Sapiens 7, and he also owns a large concert hall located in the Sangsangmadang building in the same area, making him an all but indispensable part of the local metal scene as both a promoter and performer.
Oathean’s sound incorporates traditional Korean instruments and, at times, haunting operatic backing vocals into lengthy compositions inspired by the likes of Dissection and Emperor to create a truly compelling mix of Scandinavian and Korean soundscapes. The band has toured to Taiwan and Japan several times, and shared the stage with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Kreator, and Graveworm. Oathean currently has a lengthy European tour in support of their latest release in the planning stages, their first sojourn to the continent in the band’s history.
Bay Area thrash metal veterans Forbidden have posted another new song online from their forthcoming new studio album, "Omega Wave." You can check it out by heading to their official Myspace. The album will be released in Europe on October 22nd and on October 26th in North America. This will be their first studio album since 1997's, "Green."
Guitarist Craig Locicero stated: "Being able to easily describe a song like ‘Dragging My Casket’ is damn near impossible. The lyrical concept was originally brought in by Matt. That in itself is a little bit different for us. He was inspired by the lyrical content that Russ and I had up to that point. Matt sees the world a little bit differently then the rest of us, myself in particular. He came into practice with some lyrics pointed with puzzlement towards people that believe humanity is headed towards it's own undoing. Not that he doesn't think it's a possibility, but Matt just won't go there for the most part. He wondered how a person with a family and a kid that loves life as much as I do could hold all of this knowledge as closely as I do without getting depressed. Hell, I do not even know!
"That got Russ and I into thinking about it and we took Matt's seed and planted it. How can you describe these feelings of overwhelming despair that so many people feel today? We imagined what a young person that's barely had a chance to experience life feels with all of the information over-load that we have today. Between the lies and the truth are billions of opinions that make a sea of uneasiness. It's tough living these days. ‘Dragging My Casket’ tries to paint that picture. There are so many emotions that one gets while trying to digest all of this regurgitated information and make our own opinion and interpretations of this reality. It tells that story from one persons point of view. In my mind, that is a young person trying to figure out were they fit in today's chaotic society.
"Musically, ‘Dragging My Casket’ song twists and turns more then any other Forbidden song to date. It's faster, more melodic, heavier, thrashier, dark and beautiful all at different points. Vocally, Russ sounds incredible and really gets into his part as the story unfolds. It's amazing to listen to one man sing starting on 1 and jumping to 10 like no other singer! Some of the best stuff he's ever done is on Omega Wave and this is the centerpiece of the record.
"I guess I could have just said ‘Dragging My Casket’ is a fucking epic!”

Madball is undoubtedly one of the hardest working bands in the world of hardcore. Having start when lead singer Freddy Cricien (aka Freddy Madball) was only nine years old, they have made a name for themselves as true legends of hardcore music. I was lucky enough to ask Freddy a few questions lately about the new album, "Empire," the situation with drummer Jay Weinberg and what he thinks of the modern day hardcore scene. More...

The South African metal scene mourns the loss of a great artist in the metal community.
Nazar Berezovsky, lead guitarist of Warthane, tragically died in a car accident in the early hours of the morning on October 8th 2010 on his way home from a gig at the Doors Nightclub.
In the short space of 7 days, not only Nazar but: Pat O’Gorman (Unwritten Friday, Kinky Robot) and Rowan Ferreira (Unlisted) were sadly taken from us, reportedly all due to road accident deaths. Everyone who has heard the news has been left severely affected and it’s extremely heartbreaking that we’ve lost 3 amazingly talented, young men.
We’re still at a loss for words to explain this terrible sequence of events. All we can say is that their legacies will live on through their art and never be forgotten. RIP Pat, Rowan and Nazar.
Our deepest and most sincere condolences to their friends and family.
