The aggressive punk/rock/metal band MONGREL is set to release their new five-song EP, "REVENGE," (on Screaming Ferret Wreckords) this Halloween at Memorial Hall in Plymouth MA at the 7th annual "Hilloween" concert. Recorded by Tim Koukos (Nuclear Assault, Meliah Rage) at SFW Studios, and mixed by Jeff Wallace (Biohazard, Pro-Pain, End of an Era) at Entrolab Studios, while the EP does not come out in CD form until Halloween, it is already available on itunes and amazon.com for only $4.95.
"REVENGE" is the follow up to Mongrel's Screaming Ferret Wreckords full length debut "Fear, Lies, & Propaganda," which was released in April 2008. Mongrel guitarist Adam Savage states, "the EP is a great way to introduce the steps forward we've taken with the new recordings that we've been working on this year, and gives a taste of what's to come on the new full length album "This Means War" which will be out in early 2010." Savage also makes clear that all of the songs on "Revenge" are exclusive to this EP and will not be on the upcoming full length CD, stating, "We wanted to keep the EP as something special for the fans and not make them re-buy the same songs when the new album comes out."
The "Revenge" EP features the songs: Scum, Catharsis, Beyond Repair, Butterknife Suicide, and Point a Finger (featuring guest vocals by Tylor Monroe of Scarecrow Hill). Two tracks from the EP, "Butterknife Suicide" and "Scum," are currently available in streaming format on the band's MySpace page
Mongrel just taped an episode of Scorch's PFG-TV (an Internet and cable TV "late night" style show) on which they performed the new EP in it's entirety. The episode of the show will air on various cable stations in 85 cities around the country and online at www.PFG-TV.com starting Saturday, October 10th.

Continuing on from last week's edition of Sunday Old School, which focused on Black Sabbath, this week's column takes a look at another band from the very first wave of heavy metal, in this case, Welsh rockers Budgie. Budgie is perhaps best known for their song, "Breadfan" because Metallica frequently covered the song during live performances (Metallica has also covered another Budgie song, "Crash Course In Brain Surgery.") Metallica isn't the only big name band to have covered Budgie either. Iron Maiden covered the song, "I Can't See My Feelings," Van Halen covered the title track from the 1974 album, "In For The Kill," and Soundgarden recorded a cover of "Homicidal Suicidal," which comes from Budgie's self-titled debut.
Many people, myself included, feel that Budgie never really got the full recognition they deserved and when comparing the two bands, one could state that Budgie was, "the RUSH that didn't quite make it." However, their influence on heavy metal remains to this day, with the band still holding a large fan base in Poland, an to a lesser extent, Australia and the United Kingdom. More...

"We are in the final stages off the mix. We..ve listened to the 2nd mix and are gonna make some small changes in the beginning of next week, then we are done!! This recording has been amazing and everyone has done their outmost to make this happen. It really sounds like nothing else I've ever heard. In a couple weeks we will post a sample here exclusively for you myspace users.
"We will also start rehearsing the songs like maniacs so that we will be able to make the best live shows you've ever seen or heard. We will start testing guitar players at the same time and hope to find some one that can do the job that it requires!
"Until next week, Stay twisted fuckers!!"
