Voivod Wakes Up The Underworld

It's been five years since Canadian progressive thrash metal legends Voivod released the album, "Target Earth," during which time they gradually released the "Post Society" EP. Last month however, the band finally released a new full length album, "The Wake." The ambitious concept album is sure to get fans excited and people talking but some would say it's in a live setting where Voivod really shines, so I popped along to The Underworld in Camden, North London to see what a headlining Voivod show is like.

Having unfortunately missed out on the bulk of opening act, Cryptic Shift, it was on to the main support for the evening, Bio-Cancer. Hailing from Athens, the Greek thrashers have a lot more to offer than the eighties throwbacks of the mid to late 2000s thrash revival, containing some grindcore influences and a trace of black metal. Those who appreciate the genre found much to like about the Hellenic thrashers, though I did notice that the longer they were on, the bar was becoming more crowded. While there may not be too much to remark on when it comes to their live show, if you're a fan of old school thrash that likes to walk on the extreme side a little, Bio-Cancer are worth checking out. Machine Head has just begun their second North American tour in support of the record, which will also serve as a farewell to longtime members Phil Demmel (guitar, ex Vio-Lence) and Dave McClain (drums, ex Sacred Reich, S.A. Terrorizer Streaming New Album

Caustic Attack, the imminent new full-length from long-running American grindcore unit Terrorizer, is streaming in its inexorable entirety. Slated to drop worldwide via The End Records October 12th, the band's first studio offering in six years was produced by Jason Suecof (Deicide, All That Remains, Kataklysm, Battlecross) at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida and features the apocalyptic cover art of Timbul Cahyono (Rotting Corpse, Pyrexia).

Before Pete Sandoval recorded Morbid Angel’s first album, 1989’s Altars Of Madness, he performed on two demos and a split album with his original band Terrorizer. Today, the group’s 1989 full-length debut World Downfall is still considered a pinnacle for death metal and grindcore, featuring impossibly fast blast-beats and double-bass drumming along with a blitzkrieg attack by late guitarist Jesse Pintado (Napalm Death), and ex-vocalist Oscar Garcia (Nausea). The 1989 lineup was rounded out by Sandoval and then-fellow Morbid Angel bandmate David Vincent on bass.

Over the next twenty-three years, Sandoval took time between Morbid Angel albums to continue working with Terrorizer, recording two more cataclysmic full-lengths, 2006’s Darker Days Ahead and 2012’s Hordes Of Zombies. And now, another six years down the burning highway, Terrorizer is back with Caustic Attack, their heaviest and most eclectic album to date. More...

Tesseract Posts New Video Online

With their worldwide Sonder tour preparing to hit European & UK stages next month TesseracT have released a new video for the track "Juno" taken from their new studio album "Sonder." This stunning clip created by Dark Fable Media (http://www.darkfablemedia.co.uk) has been filmed in high definition 4K. You can check it out below.

TesseracT vocalist & lyricist, Dan Tomkins explains the importance of the track within Sonder, "Writing the lyrics for this album was a cathartic experience and I feel that 'Juno' is probably the epitome of Sonder. We wanted to create a video that symbolised the realisation of the constraints that are placed on life. “Juno” is the embodiment of that feeling.” He continues “Having worked with Dark Fable Media multiple times, I have grown to love what they do and how they operate. TesseracT have wanted to work with them for a long time now, so this video was a real joy to work on."

Amos Williams, TesseracT’s bassist, talks us through the filming process "Technically this was intense as we filmed everything at double speed to get a weird fantasy vibe that was still in time when replayed at normal speed. Of all the tracks we could have chosen to try this technique, Juno is not the easiest. But, we think the results show for themselves it was worth it!" More...

Interview

A Neighbourly Chat With Okilly Dokilly's Head Ned

Many of us have areas of pop culture, history or science which we become obsessed with. For most of us on this site, heavy metal music would be one of them of course, but there are many bands which focus on specific areas such as Ex Deo singing exclusively about the Roman culture and empire, Nile and their focus on Egyptian history or the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and their unhealthy feelings for California. One band which has grabbed the attention of people across the spectrum in recent years though, is Okilly Dokilly, the metal outfit from Phoenix, Arizona who focus solely on the friendliest neighbour in the world, Ned Flanders of The Simpsons fame.

Being a Simpsons fanatic myself (a true one that hates everything after a certain point,) I jumped at the opportunity to meet up with the band's frontman and founder, Head Ned, where we discussed the concept behind the band, as well as his feelings on more recent episodes, Futurama, Disenchantment and what we can expect from the band's second album, which currently goes by the working title, "Howdilly Twodilly." You can watch it in full below. More...
