Dissona Covers Blade Runner 2049/Vangelis Song

In honor of the theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049, progressive metal outfit Dissona has shared a cover of Vangelis' song, "One More Kiss, Dear," which appeared on the soundtrack for the 1982 version of Blade Runner. The track can be heard in the player below.

Regarding the decision for covering the cult classic, the band explained, "It is clear that Dissona draws inspiration from a vast number of sources, though one we are particularly partial to would undoubtedly be science fiction. Producing themes, concepts, and moods like no other media genre, it has inspired us to create atmospheres throughout our discography and will continue to do so with our most current musical endeavor. Blade Runner is one of the best entries in the world of science fiction and, with the release of the new film, we found it appropriate to do this homage to a classic piece from the original."

In regards to the new, yet unnamed album, Dissona had the following to say: "Dissona is currently working on new material. We have big plans for the new album, where we will once again expand to brand new, unfamiliar territory while bringing our signature sound along with us. However the approach and content may vary between records, we view our albums as a growing collection of music that belongs together cohesively. We are very excited about the future."

Dissona is a progressive metal band based out of Chicago. Since becoming active in 2006, the band has become known for a diverse, imaginative sound and powerfully expressive stage performance. The most recent album, "Paleopneumatic," was released in 2016 to worldwide critical acclaim.

The Element Prepares For Second Album

California's The Element are preparing the long awaited second album "From Sand - Part II" and have employed the services of famed producer Jens Bogren to handle production duties.

Back In 2015, The Element started working on the new release and this time with Borgren at the helm, the band seeks to accelerate its career. Borgren worked with bands such as Arch Enemy, Symphony X, Angra, Pain of Salvation, Katatonia, Dragonforce, Paradise Lost, James Labrie and Devin Townshend. In charge of mastering is Tony Lindgren, both from Fascination Street Studios.

“From Sand - Part II” shows the band’s natural evolution with heavier, more straightforward, and more aggressive songs, while keeping their main features, such as sophisticated instrumental segments and orchestrations.

The album's first single will be the song “Dusk," which will also be made into a music video, once again directed by Tommy Merry. Soon the release dates for the single and album will be announced.

Stay tuned for more information. More...

Mindful Releases New Single "Lex"

Brisbane has a brand new melodic hardcore outfit - and its name is Mindful. The four-piece debuted the first single "Lex" along with a video! The track "Lex" is out now on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify. Check out the clip in the player below.

Mindful hails from from Brisbane, Australia, created from the ashes of former Brisbane bands, First Sight and What We're Worth.

Vocalist Lloyd Colligan is stoked as to be releasing their debut track. "We are super excited to be releasing this. This is a long time coming. We hope to bring a brand of music to the table that is simple, melodic, emotional and direct. We are super excited to get back on touring circuit and run amok with friends This is only a taste of what's to come but we are proud of the sound and style we have come up with as a band. This music feels like home to us. It's something we love to play and we hope that people can enjoy it in the same light."

Lloyd expands on the lyrical content, "This song means a lot to me, and it is no coincidence that this was the first song we are releasing. Lyrically, it's very direct and emotive and honestly, pretty depressing – but that's what it's about. It's about being depressed and experiencing that feeling of being trapped in a mind that is starting to give up. This feeling comes around all too often to such a huge proportion of the world, and it seems to be happening more and more. Mental Illness has only recently started to be taking seriously. Look at what just happened in Las Vegas. People are sick and this world is poisoning them." More...

Iron Monkey Wears The "Crown Of Electrodes"

Cult U.K. doom/sludge outfit Iron Monkey has shared the official visualizer video for "Crown Of Electrodes," the opening track off "9-13," the band's first new full-length in almost two decades.

"9-13" is set for release on October 20th on CD, LP, and digital formats via Relapse Records. Physical packages and digital orders are available via Relapse.com over here.

After disbanding in 1999, Iron Monkey has reformed for phase two of the mission. Recorded in the band's hometown of Nottingham in Spring 2017 A.D. with producer Johnny A. Without question, the most focused, aggressive and direct material to date, "9-13" is an all-out assault of violent hatred and nightmarish negativity. Recommended listening for fans of pain, suffering, and misanthropy.

The track list for "9-13" is:

1. Crown Of Electrodes
2. Omegamangler
3. 9-13 (see music video here)

Pit Stories: A Mosh Pit Of Two

In the world of crowd surfing like legends, moshing in totally unexpected places, attacks from large chested woman...we have practically seen it all in our expanding collection of Pit Stories.

Today, Mark Briody - guitarist of Jag Panzer - recalls a mosh pit of two, where he and his bassist were having the time of their lives in the pit, unaware as to what was happening...

Here, Mark explains:

Many many years ago my bass player and I were at a punk gig. There was a massive pit going on. We were right in the middle, tossing elbows and going crazy. Soon we found ourselves are the only ones out there. We thought everyone else had enough so we high-fived each other. We soon found out the last song was a dedication to a deceased person, which no one moshed to. We were clueless.

Raintimes Announces Debut Album, Issues New Single

Frontiers Music Srl announces the release of Raintimes' debut album: a new melodic rock project featuring two young and talented Italian musicians, Pierpaolo “Zorro” Monti (Charming Grace, Shining Line) and Davide Barbieri (Wheels of Fire, Charming Grace) together with the awesome singer Michael Shotton (Von Groove). The lineup on the album is completed by Sven Larsson, Andrea Gipponi, and Ivan Gonzalez. The album will be out on December 1st, 2017 and promises to be an absolute delight for all AOR lovers out there! Pre-order the album at this location.

Check out the video for first single, “Forever Gone” which can be seen in the player below. Pierpaolo “Zorro” Monti says: "Forever Gone" is a very special song that I begun writing during the sessions of my Shining Line debut. I continued writing the song with the idea of making an album in the style of “The Storm”, so I asked Dave to add a few parts to complete its structure, and recorded the first demo the same day. We were very excited with the final result! Raintimes is the album that I really wanted to use as a sort of tribute to my love and admiration for “The Storm.” I have played to death their two albums (especially “Eye of the Storm”). Their tempos, steeped in pure melodic class, are the perfect crossroad between AOR and Melodic Rock. The choice of Shotton as frontman was based not only on my love for his talents, but because I wanted to give a strong personality to the album and make the music more personal and original.”

A few demos were sent to Frontiers’ President Serafino Perugino, who enjoyed what he heard and gave the talented guys from Northern Italy an opportunity to showcase their talent to a wider audience.

Fun fact for all the melodic rock aficionados out there: the duo of Monti and Barbieri (together with Dave Zublena) actually penned the song “Love Gets Through” from the First Signal "One Step Over the Line" released on Frontiers Music Srl in June 2016. More...
