Birth A.D. will enter the studio in January to record the full-length follow up to the band's debut "Stillbirth of a Nation" EP. The album will be recorded with renowned producer and thrash metal guru Alex Perialas (Anthrax, SOD and Nuclear Assault).
The band recently took part in a photo shoot at the legendary Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, TX. Created in 1974, this public art installation has become a Texas landmark and has been referenced multiple times in American pop culture.
Birth A.D. bassist/vocalist Jeff Tandy comments, "Texas has a divisive reputation throughout the world, but one thing we've always had going for us is mythology. The image of gunslingers riding horses through blasted plains is eternal, but it's not the only thing that makes the region fascinating. The Cadillac Ranch is an iconic Texan landmark, and it was the perfect place for us to capture the strange and ragged spirit of our home state."
Glorior Belli of France has been mixing black metal with blues and sludge straight out of the American south, citing New Orleans bands as a big influence. With a new album released to the world, Glorior Belli is showing fans just how far their reach into the realm of myth goes, basing "The Great Southern Darkness" on an ancient creation story. I caught up with vocalist/guitarist Julien to talk about the new album, learn about Tiamat, and gush about my hometown's muscial nature. More...
Lance King, former vocalist of Pyramaze and Balance Of Power, will release his solo LP "A Moment In Chiros" on November 11, 2011 through Nightmare Records.

10:10 Sacred Systems
The official press release reads:
"Etheric Progressive Power Metal from the former voice of PYRAMAZE, BALANCE OF POWER, for fans of REDEMPTION, DREAM THEATER and SYMPHONY X with a nod at greats LED ZEPPELIN.
"LANCE KING is world renowned in the underground as a melodic metal vocalist, singing on over 25 worldwide releases over the last 21 years. This fact is impressive in itself, but what is truly special about LANCE is his ability to morph his voice to fit any mood and intensity of a song, he's proved this over the years by adding a very "special something" to every album he has been a part of.
"Said to have the golden touch, LANCE's voice just seems to connect the dots making head banging metal also into a good song.
"On the last day of June, 2011 LANCE decided to invite some of his musical friends to co-write songs with him as he ventured into his first solo album. An act of faith only knowing their work, never working with them before in creating music. In just two months, those involved had created an epic masterpiece, quite a feat indeed based on the quality of this release. More...
Norwegian progressive rockers White Willow are streaming the entire "Terminal Twilight" LP, the band's sixth album at this location. The album is scheduled for release on October 11, 2011.
The press release for the album states: "For the first time White Willow has chosen to abandon the high cost/hi gloss environment of the professional studio in favor of their own attic. The album was recorded with minimal, often primitive equipment and has been mixed with very little in the way of processing and editing. The result is a raw, real and almost live-sounding album, warts-and-all - well, relative to the band's meticulously polished last three albums, anyway.
"It is both a departure and a continuation in terms of White Willow's discography. The renewed emphasis on acoustic guitars and pastoral sections, the somewhat gothic, mysterious atmosphere, are all hallmarks of a sort of a 'classic' White Willow sound. On the other hand, there is an added element of experimentation and playfulness, and a more daring approach to harmonics that takes the band several leaps forward."
The track listing for "Terminal Twilight" is:
1. Hawks Circle
3. Kansas Regrets
4. Red Leaves
5. Floor 67
8. A Rumor of Twilight
9. The Howling Wind

After playing some shows we realized that the chemistry was still there and we decided to continue. U.S. traditional metal band Riot has cancelled the band's participation in the tour with HammerFall in Europe this fall. Vicious Rumors has now replaced Riot on all dates. In an open letter to fans on the band's website, the band provided the following explanation:
"Due to complications from Tony's emergency oral surgery, RIOT is disappointed to announce that we will not be able to appear with Hammerfall as previously scheduled. A routine dental checkup discovered a deeply infected root canal, and the infection had spread to the jaw and surrounding teeth. The only option was immediate surgery to remove the tooth, as well as a portion of the infected bone tissue, and to perform a large graft with healthy bone from the surrounding area.
'During the initial examination, my doctor gave me a puzzled look and then asked the question that put fear in my heart: 'Are you in a lot of pain?' I was then informed that I would be if this procedure was not performed ASAP. After the surgery, I was made aware of the extent of the bone graft, and the risk of dislodging fragments of implanted bone should I resume normal activity too soon.
'I was put on a liquid diet and limited to bed rest for several days, then informed that because of the location of the surgery, singing was out of the question for four weeks. As I write this I still have stitches in my mouth and have to limit my physical activity. The recovery period essentially wiped out any hope of sufficient practice time for a RIOT set list, and full recovery takes four months before the tooth can be replaced.
'We discussed all the options we could think of, the last of which was to perform the final 10 dates of the engagement with minimal practice on my part. In then end, though, everyone agreed that going out with my voice at at any less than 100% would have compromised a show for which some fans have been waiting many years. With heavy hearts we made the only viable decision; to withdraw from the tour.' More...
Swedish traditional metal band Steelwing has announced that the sophomore release "Zone of Alienation" will be released on January 6th, 2012 (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, France) January 10th, 2012 (Sweden) and January 27th, 2011 (Rest of Europe).
The band commented on the album:
"The recording sessions at Leon Music with Rikard Löfgren were a blast! Everyone worked really hard to pull it off with a tight deadline but Rikard really understood the Steelwing sound and used his ear for melodies to bring out the best in our songwriting. The results speak for themselves and the progression of the band since our debut is obvious."
" 'Zone of Alienation' is a semi-concept album set in a not-so-distant future where the remnants of mankind have fled into outer space. Following the eradication of the Earth after religious wars have gone nuclear, they set out to find new worlds to colonize. The cover art was done by Dimitar Nikolov and it is an eerie depiction of heavily armed space pioneers setting foot on a hostile planet."

When I woke up on Friday morning I knew it was going to be a fantastic day, regardless of the pouring rain, and the new found hole in my only unpacked shoes. After all, it is not often that one has the privilege of being able to attend a sold out Amorphis show at Helsinki’s historic venue, Nosturi. The venue is in an old cargo building, atmospherically located right on the sea. Truly, a perfect place for the mythic Kalevalan inspired music of Finnish metal heroes, Amorphis.
The air is tense as I walk up to the dark building; people are lined up in a queue that stretches from the doors of the venue all the way down to the docks where black water churns ominously. Some people arrive at the door only to realize the sign proudly proclaims “Sold Out!” They mutter “Vittu! Perkele! or Saatana!” (essential Finnish Phrases! ) and dejectedly walk away. More...

German power metal band Symphorce has disbanded after seven studio albums (last of which was "Unrestricted" in 2010). The band made the following announcement on the split:
"Bad news for all fans of German metallers Symphorce. In the following statement the band announces their breakup:
"Thank you & lights out!
"7 albums, 12 years and thousands of enthusiastic fans don't make that decision easy, but after long thoughts and lots of talks we decided together to call it a day and dissolve Symphorce. The heads are dead, the timetables of our main bands packed with dates,...... so we feel a lack of inspiration and no possibility to record more albums, play more shows with the passion and commitment needed therefore. Symphorce always stand for an absolute independent type of metal, but with our latest (and last) album "Unrestricted" we had to recognize, that we have said everything we wanted musically. It was an unbelievable, intense and fantastic time! We thank you all for your long lasting loyalty and the enthusiasm you have shown to us. We will never forget all this for sure.
Of course, we will still remain with and in our other bands and will see us for sure somewhere somewhen on this planet. And therefore, ... lights off ...spotlights on!
"Thanks for 12 fantastic years, thanks for the fulfillment of a dream! It was AMAZING!"
Members of Symphorce can be heard with other projects: singer Andy B. Franck is currently busy with Brainstorm, guitarist Markus Pohl is with Mystic Prophecy and drummer Steffen Theurer is with Watch Me Bleed.
Helsinki, my Helsinki. One year later, and still there is always something new and exciting here. In a city that is constantly evolving musically, a city where Gods of Metal roam the streets, what could be hidden under the surface? Clearly Helsinki is a center in the musical world, where it seems as if everyone you meet either plays an instrument or is in a band. One only has to look at the music that comes from this epicenter to realize how raw with talent the city and surrounding suburbs are.
With such internationally acclaimed acts such as Nightwish, Apocalyptica, Wintersun, Norther, Amorphis, and Moonsorrow boasting their origins here in Southern Finland, is it really a surprise that there is even more phenomenal talent hidden right beneath our noses? That’s not the Koskenkorva I smell, it’s the scent of fresh, raw talent. Heavily influenced by folk metal and symphonic metal, Helsinki area also has a surprisingly good local scene; this week we’ll Unearth the Metal Underground with everything from black metal to symphonic death metal.
Assemble the Chariots
To start with, a hefty dose of black and death metal! Assemble the Chariots was formed in the summer of 2008. The band's musical focus is death, black and hardcore metal, and in its own words “fast guitar shreds, and shit you’ve never heard before.” They had their first release in 2008 and currently are writing a demo set to come out later this year. Personally, I’m loving the flowing guitar riffs and the way the songs quickly transition to Opeth style growls and blast beats. Piano interludes provide melancholic interest and leave me wondering how the hell these guys aren’t on any magazine covers yet.

Danish black metal act Blodarv has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new live drummer:
"Due to the fact that Blodarv's session drummer YNLEBORGAZ is frequently busy these days with his own band Angantyr, we have been trying out an additional live drummer who goes by the name of FJORGYNN. He has been drumming with us for the last six rehearsals and has proved himself to be a superb live drummer who fits right in with Blodarv – being able to understand the flow and energy of our music and synch completely with the band.
"This means that Blodarv is now in a position to be able to accept more live shows, without having to worry about the ones that YNLEBORGAZ can't make. And who knows, you might even be able to see Blodarv and Angantyr appearing at the same festivals in the future.
"The first show to feature FJORGYNN in action will be on the 26th November when Blodarv will be supporting Endstille at the Rock in Copenhagen (DK)."

"Sinister Black has been busy busy busy...we hope you all had a crazy summer - we did! There's a number of new songs in the works and a number that have been completed over the last few months. We are just finalizing the pre-production tapes before we are going into the 'Big' studio late this year. Individually we all have been up to lots of extra stuff as well over the summer....
"Wayne (guitar/ vocals) has been presenting a monthly acoustic showcase and has been very well received. A number of metal heavy weights have taken the plunge and unplugged themselves for these events. These have been VERY eclectic and diverse and it shows what true talent our friends and peers truly are. His music company (Climbing Richter Music) has been busy as well. Wayne is currently recording a very cool solo acoustic album and has been working with some extremely talented bands in our area doing some recordings for them as well." More...
