New York and Texas based death metal band The Famine has issued the following update regarding the departure of their vocalist Chris Mcaddon:
"The Famine has parted ways with vocalist Chris McCaddon. The tyranny of distance is at times an insurmountable obstacle to behold. We love Chris as a brother and respectfully wish him the best in all of his future endeavors. In addition, The Famine is very excited to announce that Nick Nowell will lead us down this dark and dusty road as our new singer, and we couldn't be any more excited to welcome his range and abilities into The Famine in such an important capacity and at such an important time in our journey of pillage and conquest. In other news, we are hard at work in our metal bunker, doing our best to write a sophomore record the likes of which have never been heard by any ears, mortal or otherwise. Stay tuned for more big Famine news very soon, and may the metal be with you."

Facedown Records has decided not to hold a Facedown Fest this year in 2010. Here's the statement from the label:
"With much consideration and due to many different factors we have decided to take a break on Facedown Fest this spring. Our headlining bands have great upcoming opportunities that conflict with the timing of Facedown Fest among other scheduling difficulties. We don’t want to ever put together a Facedown Fest that’s lacking all of the members of the Family, so we decided to postpone it for the time being. We apologize to those who look forward to coming out to beautiful Southern California and we assure you that we will make it happen again as soon as possible. Even though Facedown Fest won’t be taking place in the spring, 2010 is shaping up to be an incredible year for Facedown and our bands. We will be having a Facedown tour going out in the Spring of that is dedicated to the young / new faces on the label, our established bands will have some very exciting tours they’ll be announcing soon, and Facedown will have 'Facedown Days' at several of the Summer festivals this year. We will keep you posted on all of that as we can."
Canadian metallers The Catalyst have issued the following update about seeking a new drummer:

We remain close friends with him, and we want to thank him in advance for agreeing to help us out with our February 5th gig with the mighty SLAVES ON DOPE!
"That being said, we are kicking this search into high gear now. We are currently searching for a talented, experienced drummer with the necessary drive, will, and equipment to tour on a serious level. We are looking for someone who is professional about his/her craft and willing to take this on as a full-time gig. As many of you know, we have a full album ready to be dropped soon, and we plan to tour heavily in support of it.
"Even if you are not from the Montreal area, please feel free to contact us if the gig interests you. You can always contact us through MySpace, or send us an email at: email@example.com. We look forward to playing with anyone interested in the gig! Thanks!"

Finnish "love metalers" H.I.M. have just released a new video for "Heartkiller," the first single off their upcoming album "Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice." The new album, which was produced by Matt Squire (The Used, Saosin, All Time Low), will be the HIM's seventh full length record over their 13 year career. You can check out the music video below:
H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo recently sat down with Metal Hammer magazine to discuss the forthcoming album saying, "Lyrically, it's the most sexual [album], the most horny one, we've ever made. The horny and the horned. Like the IMPALED NAZARENE song. It's got that and a sense of immediacy: 'I want it now, now, now.' It's not about being poetic or forlorn about something that is about to happen, it's actually about something that is happening at this very moment in time."
He added, "I like the immediacy of it. There's a lot of information put in short songs and they don't let go. That was the whole vibe for me. You should have seen me working the vocals out in the middle of the night, amongst my taxidermy owls in the tower screaming my guts out, unable to stop until 9:00 a.m. and then sleeping on a couch for two hours before starting again. So the whole process of the album is very close to that mental boner that just didn't go away."
"Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice" will hit stores in the U.S. on February 9th. Here's the complete tracklisting:
1. In Venere Veritas
2. Scared to Death"
4. Dying Song
5. Disarm Me (With Your Loneliness)
6. Love, the Hardest Way
7. Katherine Wheel
8. In the Arms of Rain
9. Ode to Solitude
10. Shatter Me With Hope
11. Acoustic Funeral (For Love in Limbo)
12. Like St. Valentine
13. The Foreboding Sense of Impending Happiness
Swedish melodic metal band Slumber has issued the following update:
"Tomorrow we leave the stone cold walls of Stockholm and venture deep in to the natural habitat of inbred little town of Skara for four weeks of recording."
"Never in my life have I with such pride and energy tackled a huge challenge like this. This album has turned out to be immensely complex to create but extremely rewarding if done focused and right. The album is becoming a journey many of you will never, EVER forget. I know the samples on our myspace site might confuse some of you. Every day the songs are heavily changing to create a very dynamic context. So please don't 'worry,' once you hear the album you will recognize its massive voyage nature."

California melodic death metal band Dark Haven has issued the following studio update:

We're going to work on getting the rest of the songs up to par today and tomorrow, and do some last minute vocal and guitar tracking next week to change a few things. Other than that, we are getting extremely close to a finished, BRUTAL, product! So we hope you are all as excited as we are for 'Fallout,' it's been a long time coming people, and it will soon become a reality."
San Francisco metal band InACage has issued the following update:
"We are proud to announce that our new EP 'Remains' is now available @ the Los Gatos Public Library! A special thank you to the entire staff! Los Gatos rocks! It will also be available soon through the Santa Clara County Public Library in weeks ahead! More info to follow."
"We hope you will help support our cause and purchase the EP ($5.00). 15 % of each album sold will be donated to the American Cancer Society. As some of you are aware, Darren Reinholz (our guitar player and bro) mixes chemo therapies for a living @ Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley (the same hospital I was born at). My grandfather currently has it in his spine, Stephanie's grandfather died from it in 2008 and we have had more family and friends than we care to count who have either had it @ one time or another or have unfortunately passed away from it. We hate the hell out of it! It runs deep. The other reason is that we would like to at least break even so we can record another album towards the end of the year. HAHA! In fact, we already have quite a bit of new material in the works!"

Guitarist/Vocalist IT (Tony Särkkä) of Swedish black bands Abruptum and Ophthalamia has issued the following statement about releasing an autobiography:
"My final contribution to this 'non-extraordinary reality' will be a book about my life. For all these years I have chosen to stay silent, out of the 'spotlights' and now that I finally will vanish into shadows eternally; the time has come to let you know the truth. You will hardly find any material out there coming straight from my mind, as I refused interviews and contact with the 'outside.'
"Thus reading about me in books, on the net, magazines or when watching various documentaries; I hope you kept in mind that not much of the information given has had any valid or real essence. There has always been so many distractions, falseness, lies, distortions to whom I have been and what I've done that the time has finally come to set things straight once and for all. As always I work in my own pace and there is no deadline to this work, but material is been gathered in heaps. Also note that this book will hardly focus on my musical career, but my entire life. There is a time when even legends turn into myths..."
