Ohio's Axemaster has posted the following announcement online about parting ways with the band's vocalist:
"Axemaster would like to announce a change in the band's lineup; Geoff McGraw has replaced Tony Webster as their lead vocalist. Due to personal issues Tony was unable to do any work with the project for a significant length of time and had informed the band that he was unsure as to whether he would ever be able to continue.
"After allowing some time to see if the problems could be resolved, it became clear that a change was needed in order to be able to move forward with the band in general and the new album in particular. We all wish Tony the very best for the future and hope that he finds success in whatever path he chooses.
"Enter new vocalist Geoff McGraw! Geoff has been performing and singing since he was practically old enough to walk and at a young age developed a huge appetite for all things heavy metal. He has been a member of various local original bands across the state of Ohio for many years and is very much looking forward to working with Axemaster. The band is extremely happy to have found a singer of Geoff's quality and plan to immediately begin working with him on writing and recording the vocals for the new album. More...
American extreme metallers Job For A Cowboy will return to Europe in March to headline this year's Bonecrusher Fest tour. Comments the band:
"We are all excited to announce that we will be heading back over to Europe this spring to participate in the Bonecrusher Festival. After some long and hard contemplation (uhh huh huh huh), we decided it would be best to get back over to the lands of beer and honey to throw down with our friends in Beneath the Massacre and cruise around with some other cool bands and try and have a good time.
"It will be our first time headlining a proper tour overseas in just about 2 years, and we are ready to play some tunes, drink some brews and crush some snacks. Come get your bone crushed with a bunch of bearded dudes on high protein diets playing music way too fast!"
The tour also features Beneath the Massacre, War From A Harlots Mouth, Gorod, As They Burn, and Make Them Suffer. More...

Nightfall comments on the song as follows: "The wheel of human race is moving towards by instinct. Slowly like a ferocious heavy tank roaring in muddy terrain and bravely like an astronaut in his capsule traveling to no man land. The creation of new lanes to earthly havens for the countless of restless souls to follow enormously is a fascinating old story. The Colonization is an unstoppable process that soon will reach extraterrestrial lands. A new Culture is imperative for smooth transition to the new era."

Is a post-weekend hangover dragging you down? Then let Godhunter show you how to get back on track with some liquid lunch action. The Tucson sludge thugs display how they get down with their local legion in their intoxicatingly epic new video for “Wolves Of The North.”
The self-funded video was directed by Thomas Grafius and Godhunter and filmed by Grafius, Jay Pestilence, Nathan Shoemaker, and Danny Wood -- all close comrades of the band -- who basically tried to show what an average day is like for their legion.

Morten Gade Sørensen (of Pyramaze and Wuthering Heights) has replaced Morten Sørensen in Anubis Gate. The band comments:
"After careful consideration and 5 albums behind the drums, Morten Sørensen felt it was time to get off the bandwagon to pursue other musical interests. We would like to say that this is a peaceful parting of the ways and that we are still good friends. We are of course sad to see Morten Sørensen go but also excited to have another one of Denmark's very finest drummers to join the band. It is with great pleasure that we can announce his replacement Morten Gade Sørensen, known for his excellent drumming in bands such as Pyramaze, Wuthering Heights and Lance King."
Morten Gade Sørensen comments on joining Anubis Gate: "I've been following Anubis Gate since they started and being a big fan of their universe it's an honor for me to be asked to join. I'm looking forward to working on the bands new material."
Anubis Gate is currently working on an upcoming sixth album, which will be out on Nightmare Records late 2013 and follows the band's 2011 self-titled release (reviewed here).
Thyrfing, which will be appearing on the upcoming Paganfest 2013 tour, has issued the following announcement about revealing the cover artwork for the band's new album:
"We hope all our followers had a good start of 2013 and hereby present the cover art for the upcoming Thyrfing album 'De ödeslösa,' created by Costin Chioreanu of www.twilight13media.com. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for release date, full track list and other news about the album!" More...
In the wake of Killswitch Engage’s second self-titled album – fifth overall – in 2009, I heard the trajectory of the band’s career summed thusly:
“If Killswitch Engage were a transsexual, ‘The End Of Heartache’ would be the cross-dressing phase, ‘As Daylight Dies’ would be the transition phase, and ‘KsE II’ would be the full transformation into a woman.” More...
Germany's extreme metal act Neaera will release new album "Ours Is The Storm" through Metal Blade Records on March 5th in North America and on March 1st/4th in Europe. The band comments:
"We are very proud of this record and the hard work we put into making it. We hope that you will be as excited about it as we are. Once again, we trusted our good friend Alexander Dietz of Chemical Burn studio with the production as well as the mixing process. The mastering was handled by Tue Madsen at Antfarm studio. We want to thank Alex for his sheer will and tireless work on this record, and Tue for bringing out the details and making them shine.
"This record is one of the most open sounding and versatile we have done so far. We want to challenge ourselves and give you guys something new everytime we step up to the plate. There will be some surprises on this one, we are confident you will enjoy the result of our approach. The artwork for the album was done by our friend Markus Ruf who did an excellent job in creating the cover and visualizing the title. Terje Johnsen did the packaging for the limited edtition and created a simple yet exclusive look for it. Thanks very much to both guys. We will keep you updated on any new developments regarding the album!"

Nashville Pussy has also started work on a new album: more details are expected to be announced soon. More...
This Or The Apocalypse has debuted a music video for the track "Hate The Ones You Love," taken from latest record, "Dead Years." Check out the video below.
Directed by veteran director David Brodsky, the video is about a group of young post-society survivors unable to cope with the task of killing a stranger who wanders into their territory. All of their coping mechanisms start to unravel. Front man Rick Armellino comments:
"Hate the Ones You Love was the first complete track that we knew would end up on Dead Years and it helped frame the rest of the album. The lyrics themselves are about how often I find myself mistrusting or even disliking people who remind me of myself, and what it's like to try and remain trusted to those you love when you can't accept who you are.
"Writing a script around the lyrical themes and acting for the first time seemed risky but the final product really matches what we are trying to do. Brodsky is an artist, I can't describe how cool it was working with him. Hope you guys dig it!" More...
There are a slew of new heavy metal bands popping up across the globe covering just about every imaginable sound, and plenty more appearing on the horizon. Thanks to easy access to digital tools and online methods of music distribution the metal scene as a whole has an exploding population, and every year we try to keep up with the best new talent in our year-end “best of” awards.
To help get you acquainted with the best new metal out there, we’ll be briefly covering the bands nominated by our contributors for the “Best Newcomer” category of Metalunderground.com’s recent 2012 awards.
Content manager xFiruath nominated the following acts for best newcomer of 2012: Nothnegal, Dodecahedron, Ne Obliviscaris, Kuolemanlaakso, and Abiotic.
Unless we’re talking about a newly created band consisting of already-established members of the scene or some form of supergroup, it isn’t often that a completely new act launches an absolutely stellar debut album. On its first full-length expedition, the Maldives act Nothnegal twisted together melodic death metal, industrial, and symphonic elements into something unique and refreshing. Even when throwing in a few tracks with clean singing the heaviness never lets up, and the story of man vs. machine works very well with the musical style.
Recognizing these rising stars of the metal scene, the members of the band were even given an award by their nation’s president. Luckily Nothnegal isn’t taking any down time and is already working on a new album, which will reportedly include traditional instruments from the Maldives. It’ll be interesting to see where the band goes with that sort of sound, as the “Decadence” album didn’t have even a trace of a folk metal vibe. There’s no doubt about it – this is a group to look out for in the coming year and beyond.
After 18 years, one EP, and five full-length albums, the Norwegian masters in Crest of Darkness are back with their most extreme and intense release so far. The ten-track album, titled "In the Presence of Death," is set for release via My Kingdom Music on the 25th of February, 2013. The track listing is as follows:
2. In The Presence Of Death
3. Demon Child
5. The Priest From Hell
6. Welcome To My Funeral
7. Womb Of The Wolf
8. Vampire Dreams
9. From The Dead
10. The Day Before She Died More...
Svart Records has confirmed February 8th as the release date for Sink's "Holy Testament 2," which will be released on limited vinyl. A double-CD, featuring "Holy Testament 2" as well as the preceding "Holy Testament 1," will also be released that day through Svart. The track listing and artwork can be found below, and the following press release was also issued about the band:
"Black wall of sound. Throbbing sonic womb. Infinite drone ritual.
"For over 10 years, Sink has been confusing the black metal, drone, and sludge scenes. The sound of the band exists somewhere between drone, black metal, and dark ambient with a strong presence of experimentation and occasional classical and choral influences. They have traveled the path from nihilistic psych-sludge of their early days to the highly acclaimed The Process, which was a more detailed and diverse black-drone record. Their pace is accelerating with the last two-song EP and a bizarre short film to accompany it.
"Now it's time for a new incarnation with a new two-part opus, The Holy Testament. This time, the music is more towards psychedelic black metal with plenty of diversity in soundscapes and instrumentation. Their sometimes hostile and mania-driven performances are cathartic and bizarre, uncommon in this genre of static totems. They have shared stages with Hexvessel, Fleshpress, Wolves in the Throne Room, Saturnalia Temple, Mr. Peter Hayden, Dark Buddha Rising, and others while touring Europe and their native Finland." U.K. act Fell On Black Days has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's guitarist:
"True Believers, as you may now be aware, Mark Tranter has decided that his time in FOBD has come to an end and he has decided to pursue other adventures, we are saddened to lose a great musician but he remains our brother and has our 100% support.
"While this is bad news we are always positive and look forward to this as a new beginning for the band, we will be continuing as a four-piece at the moment to honour our gig commitments etc and are currently writng new material for our next release. More...
Deathrash/groove metal outfit Common Dead recently finished principal recording on the band's next album, "Allegorize." The 9-track effort is set for a spring 2013 release, although no exact release date has been announced yet.

"Allegorize" follows last year's rawly produced "Diatribe" (reviewed here) and expands on the technical yet groove-based style which had been influenced by metal alum such as Gojira, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Fear Factory, and Pantera. Terror has checked in with the following statement about the delays in releasing new album "Live By The Code," which is due out later this year:
"A lot of people have been leaving comments or asking us when Live By The Code is coming out. We want this record out too, believe me. The record is done. It's been done for a long time now. The layout is done. Everything is set. And we are very proud with it. It came out great. Really fucking great.
"So what has the delay been? Our own stubbornness. Our own drive to make sure it's released the way we want it. We are under contract with Century Media, for better or for worse. They have always treated us fairly, but as a band you always want more. You always feel short changed. You always have your vision and getting that vision across to a larger label is not always easy. So for months we've gone back and forth on how we can put this thing out so everyone is happy.
"We wanted to start our own label so we could do everything on our terms but CM didn't wanna just let us go. Believe me, I feel for record labels in 2013. Pay all that money for recording and to push the record and people just download for free. So I see their side of all this. So after a lot of give and take, I think we put together a pretty crazy plan with CM that's going to catch a lot of people off-guard and stir the pot once again. Gotta feed the internet so they can shit out their keyboard diarrhea.
"All the details will be coming with one of those overly official press releases with a lot of stupid wording soon. Bear with us for a bit more. The new EP, 'Hard Lessons,' just came out on Reaper Records. Check it out." More...

"Mors Viri" was recorded in Bergweiler, Germany at Pato Studio by Martin Kwakernaat and will be available in CD, LP and digital formats. The track list is as follows:
1. Your Fall From Grace
2. Burning All Boats And Bridges
3. Your Heaven, My Underworld

California gore lords Exhumed will return to the road this February alongside grind behemoths Phobia. The short West Coast beat down will commence February 15th in Lancaster, California and conclude February 23 in San Francisco.
The latest stretch of dates follows Exhumed’s maniacal run with Napalm Death and Municipal Waste at the end of the year, which was met with a host of hurdles including being denied entry into Canada and vehicular failure that left them temporarily stranded in Alabama. Comments vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey:
“As happy as we were to get home for the holidays, we thought we should make time to hang out with our old friends in Phobia and grind through our home state of California. We had so much fun playing out-of-the-way places during the impromptu one-off dates we did during the Napalm Death/Municipal Waste tour, we thought we would hit some nooks and crannies back home that we haven't played in years. Plus, we'll get a chance to get a bunch of our buddies' bands on the bill like POOR, Gravehill, DIS and Mortuous. We've been itching to play some stuff from the new album live and we're working out a seriously revamped setlist for this one, so come on out California! Let's have a few beers, let it loose, and get weird!" More...

German melodic death/thrash newcomers Bleeding Red are going to produce a video clip for their song “Wasted Screams.” In cooperation with Oliver Barth and Visions in Fear, the clip will be shot on January 26th in Aalen. Bleeding Red frontman Timo states:
“We are really looking forward to creating our first video! First we wanted to shoot a clip for 'Thoughtcrime,' because we usually want to express a message with what we do, until we found the perfect horror location for 'Wasted Screams' by chance! I think our fans are gonna be happy with that, anyway, because it is still one of the most popular song on the album. Vision in Fear’s Oliver Barth is, on top of that, someone who has known the band almost since the beginning. Prepare for the upcoming visual awakening of Wasted Screams! Stay awake!”
The video will feature an appearance by model Maren Strassner and the track "Wasted Screams" come off the band’s debut “Evolution’s Crown,” released in March 2012 via Rock Road/Soulfood.
