Germany's Burial Vault has issued the following update about recording new material:
"Heavy New Year Metalheads! We haven't played that much shows in the end of 2009. Because we want to put some finishing touches on our new material, we are going to take a little break until March. In the end of March we want to record our first full length album in Jörg Uken's Soundlodge Studio. God Dethroned recorded their last couple of albums ('The Toxic Touch' and 'Passiondale') there and also Dew Scented's 'Incinerate' and some other awesome sounding Extreme Metal-Releases have been recorded at the Soundlodge. Stay tuned for more information and keep checking our blog!"
German metallers Jack Slater have issued the following announcement about the release of their new album:
"We are proud to announce that Jack Slater and the label Unundeux joined forces to release the 4th Jack Slater album 'Extinction Aftermath' on 26 February 2010! The guys behind Unundeux are the guys from the German grind legends Japanische Kampfhoerspiele, who decided back in 2009 that they want to have full control over their music. So they started their own label to release future JaKa releases!
"Now we will join this small family to release our new album with full control over everything, but with a professional label, promo and distribution structure strengthening our backs! Official Distribution will be taken care of by Cargo Records, a well known Distributor. Look at their band rooster and you will know where a lot of your favorite albums come from. We really look forward to this collaboration and believe we have a very strong album for you guys, that you will love as much as we do! More information, songs, previews, videos, stuff, hot chicks and more hot chicks will be presented to you in the upcoming weeks before the release, so be sure to check back regularly!"

Having published a book that delves into the music industry business and having a degree in business and marketing, I consider David Ellefson (aka “junior”) to be a jack-of-all-trades. After departing from Megadeth in 2004, Ellefson continued to search for new and better things such as producing and collaborating with other bands that were in need of a good bassist. Lately, David Ellefson has a new record coming out with Angels of Babylon that comes out this month. More...

Originally known as Dyer's Eve, German melodic death metallers DARK AGE will release their sixth full-length on January 29th. Entitled "Acedia," the record marks their first recording for their new label, AFM Records. "Acedia" was produced by vocalist/guitarist Eike Freese at Eikey Studios with artwork by Niklas Sundin (Cabin Fever Media/Dark Tranquillity).
Swedish power metal band NOSTRADAMEUS will release their sixth full-length, "Illusion's Parade," in the US on February 2nd through AFM Records. Featuring members of Fejd and Pathos, the record was produced by Anders "Theo" Theander at Roasting House Studios in Sweden.
The band comments on the release of the record, "I guess its hard to explain the feeling when we finally are able to release 'Illusion's Parade' after sitting on it for about one year. We didn't expect it to ever be released and the frustration you build up in a situation like this when you have a finished album and all of us thinks its the best we've ever done and you just never seem to get it out to the audience is, well, frustrating."
British thrashers, EVILE have recently announced that they will be embarking on their first major North American tours with such legendary acts as KREATOR and OVERKILL. EVILE frontman/guitarist, Matt Drake recently took some time to proclaim his (and the band's) excitement to hit the road across the pond in March through early-May:
"Well it's about time it happened, we can finally say that we are coming to the USA!! It's been a long time coming because we've tried before, we've had a few plans made in the past to get to the states but they always fell through but it's finally confirmed and happening. We couldn't be happier that we get to lay waste to peoples senses on a nightly basis with such legendary bands that we have nothing but respect for, we're looking forward to meeting people who have listened to our cd's but never had the chance to see us live and we're also looking forward to introducing ourselves to a lot of new people and instead of easing ourselves into it by doing a week or so we're going for a full on two month straight tour with only a few days off, the way it should be!! I'm personally looking forward to being able to visit such iconic places as New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco as these are the kind of places i never thought i would be lucky enough to see. Ladies and gentlemen the British are coming!!!!" More...
North Carolina sludge metal band WEEDEATER has announced a string of Midwestern and Southeastern US tour dates for late January into early February. Two of the dates will feature the band's stripped-down, acoustic, two-piece bass and banjo persona, known as BARSTUL, supporting Nick Oliveri (Queens of the Stone Age). "Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said Slayer's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."
This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.
Araya began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. Araya initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.
Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

New Jersey based thrash metal legends Overkill will be shooting a new music video in Brooklyn, New York this weekend for the song, "Bring Me The Night" from their forthcoming new studio album, "Ironbound" which will be released through Nuclear Blast Records on February 9th. The video will be directed by Kevin Custer, who has previously worked with the likes of Hatebreed, Testament and Suffocation.
Frontman Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth states: "Kevin shot & directed the 'Skull & Bones' video. He is a true "master of disaster" when presenting the visuals. His art is as explosive as the bands' he works with and his personality compliments both. There is no fear in his vision. It is a true metallic pleasure to work with someone who "understands" and can deliver at such a high level."

Vocalist, bassist, and founding member John Gallagher comments; “We are ecstatic - we go way back with Metal Blade (we've known Brian since meeting him backstage at one of our shows in the UK in 1982!!!) so there's mutual respect. We feel that having this killer new album Walk Through Fire and a relationship with Metal Blade, an outfit that lives and breathes this music - that UNDERSTANDS where we have been and what we've been through, will show that we are not trading on past glories but that we are a band that continues to be relevant…and kicks ass more than ever before! We've set the bar high here with this album and are happy to have a partner willing to get it out there to the metal fans and spread the word. This is the RAVEN album the diehards have been beating us up for…and then some!"

This record has garnered tremendous reviews worldwide and combines all the strength and power that only the Gallagher brothers can deliver, Rock Solid METAL! After spending eighteen months on an extremely hectic tour, RIKETS’ founding member Scott Rose (vocals) had a chance meeting with Burnhill Union partner, Shaun Glass, and by December 2009, a deal was set in place. Scott explains, "Without a label home to release the album in the beginning, we did what we do best and toured. We didn’t have any other option. We toured so much that we noticed we had the ‘Sevendust Syndrome’ - you could see us in your town every 3 months."
Check out some of Rikets' music on their MySpace page.
