Darkest Hour Streaming "Timeless Numbers"

Darkest Hour, which recently announced the March 10th release of ninth album "Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora" via Southern Lord Recordings, today shares a second song from the 12-track album. Check out “Timeless Numbers” below.

"This song, like ‘Knife in the Safe Room,' has a dual meaning,” explains Darkest Hour guitar player Mike Schleibaum. “The first is the continuation of the story line that permeates the album. In this track we see our main character struggle with the inherit history of the culture he/she was brought up in and the realization that it was always in our nature to divide and consume ourselves. "

Mike goes on to say, "In simpler terms, it is a reflection on the drain of modern life and the subsequent division / internal destruction that this life seems to always lead humanity towards. As we travel the world, we have seen how no matter where you are, humans divide themselves. We interact with immigration policies, boarders and barriers that are cultural, economic, and political everyday that we are on tour. While traveling the world we have done our best to spread a message of anti-nationalism, unilateral respect for humans of all forms, and lastly the basic idea that music/art is more powerful and more eternal then religion, nation states, or even TECHNOLOGY!” More...

Charlatan Signs With Revival

North Carolina based label Revival Recordings is thrilled to welcome Utah scrap metal group Charlatan to the roster.

Charlatan is a unique clan defined by a willingness to embrace the odd and taboo. Armed with goofy antics, songs that meander playfully through the spectrum of genres, and the poetic/hard-hitting musings of front man, Grey, Charlatan is determined to stand out amongst a sea of cliches.

Shawn Milke of Revival Recordings had this to say about the signing: "Revival Recordings is delighted to welcome Charlatan to the family. I suggest you feast your eyes and ears on them now because there will be a day when you get to tell all your friends that you found them first." More...

Cognitive Parts With Vocalist

After releasing the "Deformity" album via Unique Leader Records late last year, Cognitive is now parting ways with vocalist Jorel Hart, who issued this statement:

"Hello everyone this is Jorel Hart here and with great dismay I am here to discuss some distressful news. Unfortunately due to life matters I have to depart from Cognitive. This is by far one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in my life. There is nothing more that I would rather do than tour the world with my family, but unfortunately for me life has revealed an opposing path.

"Be assured that this departure comes with no malice or animosity between members it's just simply a matter of life intervening. I have experienced great things in my 3 plus years in Cognitive, met some amazing people and got to be a part of the music community in a way I never thought achievable. I have seen the country multiple times and played with my favorite bands. I have played huge festivals that drew fans from literally across the globe.

"I can never forget these things that I have done nor my brothers I got to do them with. I love my Cognitive bros with all my heart and will miss stinking up a bus with them while driving state to state. I will miss drinking whiskey in the back of the van while 'camping out' in some random parking lot. Do you member??? I member! January will be my last month and this Artificial Brain tour will be my last run. Come out and and send me out the right way. More...

First Blood Releasing "Rules" Album

Vicious metal-edged hardcore band First Blood has officially joined Pure Noise Records and will release new album, "Rules," on February 10th. Fans can now pre-order the record here and watch the band’s pummeling video for the new song “Rules of Life” below.

First Blood’s union with Pure Noise Records marks a new chapter for the band joining the label’s eclectic roster, which includes fellow hardcore acts like Terror, Knocked Loose, Senses Fail and more.

"Not only has Jake (Round) at Pure Noise been there and seen us during our earlier days back in the San Francisco Bay Area, but he has worked hard and created a tremendous record label that continues to make a huge impact in the underground music scene worldwide,” says vocalist Carl Schwartz. “We are proud to join the Pure Noise roster, excited to share our newest album with the world, and thankful for the new life. FIRST BLOOD RULES 2017."

Produced by recording mastermind Will Putney at Graphic Nature Studios (formerly known as The Machine Shop) in Belleville, NJ, "Rules" features 12 tracks of the band's hardest, yet most inward-looking material to date.

Elaborating on the album title, Schwartz adds, "Rules are everywhere. Explicit rules. Unwritten rules. Unspoken rules. The rule of law. Some rules we accept. Others we hate or choose to ignore. Frequently, those who set the rules are found guilty of breaking those rules. Many have become victims of the rules they live by, either by conquest or consent. I hope that, after listening to this album and reading the lyrics, we can revisit and remind ourselves of the very essence of the underground music scene: Living our own lives by our own rules." Death Metal Bird Song Sings An Ode To "Tits"

Shapeshifter PR is proud to report Bill "CUCKO!!" Braaaaains Barnes' recent success on the internet. Although he has a song about death metal bird calls, "Tits" is really where Barnes caught his first break (poor guy finally caught a brake).

After seeing a tufted-black-crested titmouse for the first time, his grandmother scolded him. He had to convince his grandmother his intentions were not vulgar, it was simply the name of the bird, but she still didn't believe him, so he whipped out his trusty guide manual: "Southern Texas Birds" by professor Haoory Hooligar, and proved his grandmother it was just a bird. She quit shaking her head after a while and accepted it as a real thing, although was still pissed at Billie baby bird for using such crude language in a house of the LORD! More...
