Wintersun Announces New Album

Maybe Wintersun wasn't trolling as much as we thought, as the band today announces a new album is coming... except it's not "Time II" but rather something completely different. The group issued this message online:

"It's 2017 folks and it's going to be a great year! Time for some big Wintersun news? Yes it is!
When we said that 'IT IS DONE,' we did not mean 'Time II,' but we meant a NEW ALBUM for sure! 'Time II' won´t be the next Wintersun album, because of reasons you already know from past updates and interviews.

"So what is IT? IT is a NEW ALBUM and it is 100% done! And no, that's not the name of the album. This album will be something new and different, but equally great or perhaps even better in some ways. Over 53 minutes of solid Wintersun material (with no intro tracks) and with a killer concept!

"This album will be the 3rd full-length Wintersun album. We will release the name of it soon and other details like track list etc. We're gonna start putting the pieces of the puzzle together for you guys how it's going to be released and what will happen... It will be a whole new experience to enjoy a Wintersun album! It will all make sense to you very soon!

"And this album is not the only thing we've done, not by a long shot! In fact your minds will be blown soon! That is a guarantee. So click the notifications ON in our Wintersun Facebook Page, if you don't want to miss out on the new Wintersun album! (Because of Facebook algorithm reach limit). THANKS GUYS!" More...

Samskaras Releasing New EP

Samskaras was founded by Montreal-based musician Eric Burnet (Derelict, Unburnt) who is joined by drummer Alexandre Dupras, known for his work with Teramobil and Unhuman.

Their music is built on the melodically dense and technically aggressive style made popular by fellow Québécois artists such as Gorguts, Neuraxis, Quo Vadis, and Cryptopsy. Inspiration is drawn from other far-flung corners of the extreme music spectrum as well, with bands such as Wood Of Ypres, The Faceless, Nile, and Enslaved casting shadows on the compositions.

Samskaras was launched in 2014 with the release of the singles "Red Hill" and "Consecrate." Now in 2017, the band has returned with "Asunder," a four-song EP produced at The Grid with Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy). “Solar” is the first single from "Asunder," with the EP due out on January 20th, 2017.

“We challenged ourselves a lot on these songs,” explains Burnet. “We took chances and tried some things we had never done before.” More...

Heretoir just checked in with the following year-end recap and announcement about recruiting a new drummer:

"2016 was a very busy year for us - after 5 years of songwriting and intense work we finally finished our second full-length album 'The Circle!' We played a single but wonderful show at the Resist.Rewild Fest 2016 for a fantastic crowd but also parted ways with our former drummer Belial.

"We would like to thank every single one of you for the support throughout the years - everyone that supports us by coming to our shows, getting in touch with us in order to share personal thoughts and experiences connected to our music, buying our releases and merchandise and for everyone spreading the word about our music - it really means a lot to us...!

"We start into 2017 with a great energy and anticipation, a new album - and a great new drummer! We would like to introduce Nils (Thränenkind, ex-Ophis, ex-Fäulnis) as the new brilliant man behind the drumset.

"Nils already nailed it during the drum recordings for 'Substanz' in 2012 and we're really happy to have him with us - welcome Nils!" More...

Mortiis' Vond Announces Four Releases

After 20 years of silence, Vond - the ‘90s side project once deemed “the darker side of Mortiis” -
will reemerge next week with four releases via Germany’s Funeral Industries.

The releases include reissues of three long-out-of-print albums - "Selvmord," "The Dark River," and "Green Eyed Demon: - and one compilation, known as "AIDS to the People" and made up tracks from previously released and unreleased singles.

"Selvmord," which translates to “suicide,” was Vond’s 1994 album and was originally released as a limited edition LP by the now-defunct Dutch label Necromantic Gallery.

“We included a razorblade with the 20 first copies,” Mortiis said, adding with a morbid sense of humor that “there have been no suicides that we are aware of.” That version of the record has been sold out for two decades and was subsequently released in CD format by various record labels. More...

Pallbearer Signs With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of ruminant Arkansas progressive doom quartet Pallbearer for the territories of UK, Europe, Australia & New Zealand. Pallbearer can also reveal today that the highly anticipated forthcoming third record titled "Heartless" is due for release on 24th March 2017! The album will be released via Nuclear Blast Entertainment in the UK, Europe, Australia & New Zealand and via Profound Lore in North America.

Pallbearer commented on the signing: "We are very excited to be working with Nuclear Blast on this record, as so many of the bands that have helped to shape our own artistic pathways have before us.”

Monte Conner, Nuclear Blast Entertainment president adds: “Pallbearer continue to evolve and scale new creative and sonic heights with Heartless. I am very honoured to be working hand-in-hand with the band, Profound Lore and Oblique Artist Management, and look forward to Nuclear Blast playing a key role in exposing new fans to this incredible band."

Initially formed in 2008, Pallbearer grew from the fertile underground metal scene of Little Rock, Arkansas - releasing the debut full length "Sorrow and Extinction" in early 2012. The record made an immediate and immense impact on die-hard doom fans and metal critics alike, also forming the four piece fans outside of the metal scene. The formidable sophomore record, 2014’s "Foundations Of Burden" - featured on countless critic’s end of year lists - cemented the band's reputation as an unstoppable and emotive force - driving doom beyond its imagined limits, carving themselves an entirely original path through the realm of heavy music.

Pallbearer commented on "Heartless": "This album finds us exploring new territories; instead of staring into to the void - both above and within - 'Heartless' concentrates its power on a grim reality. Our lives, our homes and our world are all plumbing the depths of utter darkness, as we seek to find any shred of hope we can."

And on the ruminative album artwork (shown below), created by hugely talented Indiana based oil painter Michael Lierly: "Michael Lierly's indelibly expressive work perfectly captures the feelings of fear and heartbreak we hoped to convey as our world crumbles around us." The album layout was handled by Chimere Noire.

‘Heartless’ was recorded entirely to analogue tape at Fellowship Hall Sound, Little Rock, Arkansas between June and August 2016. The record was produced by Pallbearer, and mixed by acclaimed producer Joe Barresi (Tool, The Melvins, QOTSA, Fu Manchu). Engineering was handled by Jason Weinheimer and Zach Reeves, and mastered by Grammy winning mastering engineer Dave Collins (Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Soundgarden, Sting). More...

Disharmony Issues Details Of Long Awaited Debut LP

Today, Iron Bonehead Productions sets March 3rd as the international release date for the LONG-awaited debut album of Greece's Disharmony, "Goddamn the Sun."

Disharmony are an often-overlooked entry in the history of Greek black metal. Formed in 1991, but broken up by '95, the band would record three demos and a cult EP on the legendary Molon Lave label. Although Disharmony's sound early on slotted well into the classic Hellenic BM paradigm - militant pulse, mystical atmosphere, deep roots in traditional metal - the band largely took a more unorthodox approach, touching upon Beheritian weirdness and ritualistic soundscaping, but always with a thoroughly occult aura. Longtime fans of the band, Iron Bonehead collected Disharmony's old discography together under the title Vade Retro Satana and released it on CD and double-LP formats in 2016, reintroducing the band to old fans as well as younger generations. Life Of Agony Confirms New Album Release Date

Reactivated Brooklyn hard rock legends Life Of Agony are hard at work on the new album and Napalm Records debut "A Place Where There's No More Pain." Today the band has confirmed an April 28th release date and have debuted the album's artwork (shown below). The track listing along with pre-order options will be made available soon.

Life of Agony's Alan Robert commented: "We're in the final stages of mixing the album with our producer and then we head into mastering sessions with Ted Jensen (Alice in Chains, Machine Head, Deftones) at Sterling Sound, NYC. This record is a monster and we're so psyched to finally share it come April. It's got such an energy to it. Raging guitar riffs, heartfelt lyrics and killer grooves. We definitely turned things up a few notches in 2017 and it feels great. And I gotta say, we've never been so focused as a band. Before we even wrote the first note, we all knew what kind of record we wanted to make. You can hear that drive and intensity in the tracks and you can feel the momentum building." More...

Drive By Wire Inks Deal With Argonauta Records

Dutch psychedelic stoner rockers Drive By Wire is now part of Argonauta Records family. The band will re-release the latest album "The Whole Shebang" during 2017 and have a new album out by the end of the year.

The band offers an intriguing and unique mixture of fuzz-laiden desert/stoner rock grooves and trippy, hazy vocals of Simone Holsbeek.

A trip through the dusty desolate desert landscape, the swampy river delta, home to the band, 70's psychedelica, but also heavier themes inspired by the harsh reality of life and struggle with personal demons. Drive By Wire manages to distill these inspirations into a warm organic sound with the urgency and dynamics of 90's grunge (Soundgarden, Alice in Chains), the sensuality of PJ Harvey and the deliciously heavy psychedelic fuzz grooves of 70's bands such as Black Sabbath.

The band says: “We're stoked to collaborate and go worldwide with Argonauta Records! First our sold out 3rd album 'The Whole Shebang' will be re-released through Argonauta and then end 2017 we will release our 4th album. The new single 'Blood Red Moon' will give you a pretty good idea of the direction the kickass new material will go, still maintain our grooving heaviness but with more room for the psychedelic sultry vocals... With Gero taking care of all the promowork, we can focus on writing the best material we can possibly make... Argonauta + Drive By Wire = Team Awesome!” More...
