The dawn of 2013 also saw the birth of a brand new indie record label, founded by the owners of Brooklyn’s dark music institution and watering hole, Saint Vitus Bar: welcome Sacrament Music.
“Sacrament’s mission is to proliferate the culture that is experienced by thousands every year at our club through recordings, merchandise, mixtapes, and of course EPIC shows” states the label’s freshly launched website.
The Sacrament Music/Saint Vitus crew brought local outfit and close cohorts Sannhet on board, and have locked down the label’s maiden release. Founded in late 2010, the instrumental trio known as Sannhet has amassed a diehard audience within Brooklyn’s broad underground music circuit through their abundant live performances throughout the borough, always choreographed with electrifying visuals.
"Known Flood," Sannhet’s sprawling debut LP, features nearly forty-five minutes of their electrified post-metal, fueled with domineering riff-building movements and intense percussive hostility, unifying in a slightly blackened and trance-inducing atmospheric style. The LP was captured by Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold… The Arctopus, Dysrhythmia) and mastered by Carl Saff. Sacrament Music will release the album digitally and on LP, the pressing limited to 500 with 100 on colored wax. Preorders are available here. More...

A Sound of Thunder posted a song preview clip for the new track "Reign Of The Hawklords." The song will appear on the band's new LP "Time's Arrow" expected this year.
The band described the history of the song: "This is a bit of a unique track for us, and not totally representative of the sound of the new album. 'Reign of the Hawklords' was originally written as a 'b-side,' and was intended to be included on the 'Queen of Hell' EP, not Time's Arrow. The entire song is heavily inspired by Hawkwind. Hawkwind are best known in the metal community for Lemmy Kilmister's role as bass player and vocalist in the band in the early to mid '70s, prior to Lemmy's forming Motorhead. They are credited as pioneers of sci-fi themed rock and were one of the first bands to incorporate electronic instruments into rock music.
"Josh (ASoT guitarist) is a longtime Hawkwind fan and had been wanting to pay homage and write something in their style. Assuming this kind of song wouldn't fit well on an ASoT album, the song was intended as a b-side from the beginning, with portions of the song inspired heavily by Hawkwind tracks 'Moonglum,' 'Brainstorm,' and 'Psychedelic Warlords.' Almost all of the song's lyrics are actual Hawkwind song titles, strung together by Nina and Josh to form a very loose outline of a story.
"Plans first started to change after the song was written and the band started rehearsing it. Playing the song felt GOOD. As recording for the album began the intent was still to use the song as a bonus or EP track, but once we started work on the track it quickly became a favorite of the entire band. The last straw was when all the band members confessed to having the chorus stuck in their heads for days on end. At this point the decision was made to throw caution to the wind and add the track to the album! It was just too catchy, and the big heavy riff in the middle and the end of the song was more ASoT than Hawkwind, giving it enough of an anchor in our own style to pass muster. Then all that was left was one of the high points of the recording process...recording the crazy theremin sounds heard throughout the song!
"So there you have it, the story of "Reign of the Hawklords"! We hope you'll have it stuck in your head soon too!
"Oh, and one last thing....we heard a rumor that there's an alternate version of this track featuring a founding member of Hawkwind..."
