Machine Head was the first show that I actually bothered to pay money for since seeing Behemoth two years ago. “Unto the Locust” is an amazing album and I've never seen Machine Head headline a show. I caught them opening when they were touring with Metallica back in 2009 and they impressed me enough to get me to buy a shirt. Naturally, I was upset to see that they weren’t headlining for another two years and I wasn’t going to pass up this great opportunity. More...
U.K. stoner doom band Conan is streaming the entire 47 minute recording of it's recent live show at the Buffalo Bar in Cardiff. The show took place on January 22nd, and you may also download it by going here. This past year they released a split with the Irish sludge group Slomatics, which came out on Head Of Crom records. The three Conan tracks on that split give an idea of what's in store for the fans when they release their new one on Burning World records in March of 2012. They have already been picked by Voivod to play the Friday show of this year's Roadburn festival and are planing a European tour with Slomatics, which should take them from to Finland to Ireland throughout the summer and fall.
Texas boasts one of the largest death metal scenes in the world. Death Metal-themed festivals provide a forum for the legions of death and grind acts to puke forth cadaverous abominations upon the heads of their cannibalistic followers. Houston-based Uncleansed is a group that has always battered and splattered the ears of this scribe on the festival circuit.
I reported their powerful performance at Goregrowler's Ball 5. Vocalist Shawn Whittaker seemingly derived his voice from the bottomless perdition. Recently, the group announced Whittaker left the band and welcomed new vocalist, James Vandenberg from the Austin’s Perversum as their new growler. Along with drummer Darrell White, Vandenberg corresponded with Metal Underground.com via email about joining the band, his first live performance and new material. More...
Jeremy Deacon, the former bassist of Florida extreme metal band Wykked Wytch has succumbed to lymphoma. Deacon was 33 years old. Vocalist Ipek Warnock posted a message on the band's Facebook Page, which reads:
"Thank You all My dear Friends and fans for offering condolence & kind words for our Ex Bassist Jeremy deacon!I had a very rough nite dealing with his loss ,too young To Die! I will be dedicating a part for Jeremy on my upcoming radio show this Thursday. We met Jeremy in 1998 and he was part of the group off and on till 2001. He performed at many shows in NY, OH, NJ, PA, including opening slot for Dying Fetus (1998) in NYC, March Metal Meltdown II in NJ (1999), San Antonio Metalfest (1999). Only other member to have performed with the original line-up and 'Angelic Vengeance' lineup. He was also involved during the writing sessions for 'Angelic Vengeance' but couldn't take part in the recording. Lost contact over the last several years but even when we moved down to Florida we brought him down to be apart of the group but didn't work out. Jeremy was very talented and I recognized that and always tried to help but his own demons always held him back from his dreams. In closing don't hold grudge, just tell that person today that you care before it's too late! Peace my friends!!"

Unite for the cause, unite for the fans, and unite for metal. Everybody on this tour has pulled together to keep this tour rollin', everybody is kicking ass. And everyone on this tour is sending our love and respect to the Benante and Bello families. And Charlie, we can't wait to have ya back where you belong, my man. "Long time dead my dear friends. Welcome to the Temple Of The Black Moon, wherein all your desires and deepest darkest fantasies become terrifying reality at the press of a stereo button.
"I'm writing to you now to let you in on exactly what is brewing with this band and the bunch of hellish reprobates contained therein. I, Dani Filth, third in line to the Baronet of Hades, have just returned from a week in Bergen, Norway, where TOTBM have been ensconced in a studio (which is simultaneously working on the new 'God Seed' album, I hasten to add), putting the spit and polish to the album's worth of music we've written.
"Thus far we have the following titles to confirm, with a further couple of corkers steaming down the pipeline soon... 'Beautifully Perverse', 'Into The Void', 'Don't Call Up What You Can't Put Down', 'Infernal Desire Machine', 'Alchemy, Myself And I', 'Dark Eyes For Trouble', 'C.N.T (All That's Missing Is You)', 'Persephone', 'Last Of The Vampire Playboys', 'Another Dead Thing Between Us' and 'Catch'.
"Everything is sounding great and we are hoping to secure management (we're in the midst of discussions) and then a record deal in the foreseeable future, though no names can be uttered yet… I'm an absolute bugger when it comes to jinxes! More...
Los Angeles based act My Ruin has checked in from the road with the following tour report:
"The shows have been getting better and better with the intensity of the band and fans together. We rocked the the hell out of Legends in Newcastle and I really enjoyed being able to finally watch all the sets of Long Day Fear, Sanctorum & Godsized as they each killed it with their own brands of rock & metal to warm up the stage before ours. Met so many sweet fans after the show and had an amazing huge handmade and heartfelt gift given to me and the Mick before it by one of my most beautiful and blasphemous girls Alexandra Morgan and her fiance Noah Remmer which I will be posting a photo of soon. It simply blew us away!
"Mick & I did an amazing photo shoot with the lovely Miss Kayla Wren of Skin Deep Magazine which you can see a teaser of in this post. This lady was such a pleasure to shoot with and a true artist behind the lens. Can't wait to work with her again! Also took some fun band shots with Lisa Marie Patterson, Louise Mallen and Aaron Sly of Sanctorum who is a killer photographer and really knows how to 'tech that shit!' ;) Both Aaron and drummer Matt Alston have been helping me document this tour with photos and videos which we will be uploading and sharing as soon I promise! Been so busy before and after the shows. More...

Riot guitarist Mike Flyntz spoke out on the passing of founder/guitarist Mark Reale. In a post on Facebook, Flyntz stated:
"I would like to thank everyone for the support and love regarding the passing of my dear friend Mark Reale. I have had the honor to stand next to him on the stage and in the studio for over 22 years. Mark gave me the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of recording and writing records, and also touring in support of those records. I was a fan first, getting his autograph after a Riot show at L'Amours when I was in college. Mark was a shy man who didn't talk much unless he was being interviewed or on the phone. Lord knows he could talk on the phone. Mark also loved to laugh. One part of our special relationship was that we could laugh until we were crying, and he would be lying on the floor yelling "please stop" and after 5 minutes of silence all I had to do was look at him and it would start all over. I will forever cherish those moments. As far as a musician, he is the most underrated guitarist, song writer, riff creator, visionary in rock music. He should be in the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame for his vibrato alone. LISTEN TO HIS VIBRATO. His sense of melody was incredible. He taught me so much. There is so much more I need to say about my friend but I have been at a loss of words since his passing. The only comfort I have is that he is out of pain. I will attempt to talk more about it with Fingers, Sunday night during a Mark Reale tribute on Fingers Metal shop on WBAB 102.3 Long Island New York. Thank you everyone! Mike Flyntz"
Reale passed away on January 25, 2012 after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage along with lifelong effects and complications due to Crohn's disease.
