Cleveland-based independent record label, Standby Records, is excited to announce a new addition to the Standby family, Northern Virginia’s metal/hardcore outfit In Alcatraz 1962. Standby and In Alcatraz 1962 will team up to release the band’s debut record this spring.
“We are very excited to release our debut album with such a dedicated and committed label,” said In Alcatraz 1962 drummer, Josh Zupovitz. “We know they will treat us not only as another band, but as a family member. We look forward to collaborating with Standby Records and are ready to share our music with each and every one of you.”
Commented Standby owner, Neil Sheehan, “As we develop a rebooted version of Rock N' Roll at Standby Records, we continue to discover new acts that are rich in attitude and powered by modern day angst. Much like the rage that flowed through this band's namesake island throughout the 20th Century, In Alcatraz 1962's musical rage hits with more force than any group of murderers, rapists and criminals could ever deliver. We couldn't be happier to share their power.”
In Alcatraz 1962 will enter Cleveland’s Studio D Productions with producer, Don Debiase (Modern Day Escape, Beneath The Sky, For All Those Sleeping), in early February to begin recording the debut album.
Blessed By A Broken Heart has posted a music video online for the song "Forever," which can be found below. The video was directed by Robby Starbuck and is off the band's new album "Feel The Power," released earlier this month through Tooth & Nail Records.

British shred-heavy metallers Savage Messiah have been confirmed for this year's edition of Hammerfest, which is due to be held from the 15th - 18th of March in Prestatyn, Wales.

Save Messiah frontman David Silver comments:
"It's fantastic for the band to have been asked back to Hammerfest for the second time - we had a great time last time, but now with a new album to promote, it's going to be even better!! We're on late, but that's not going to matter - we'll be getting the final circle pits of the festival going and we're looking forward to kickin' ass!!!"

Swedish act Katatonia has posted the following update online about working on an upcoming new release and follow-up to the "Night is the New Day" (reviewed here) album:
"It's been a busy time lately and the hard work has finally paid off. We have now thirteen songs in the bag and hey, that means the recording of our new album can and shall begin. We're starting with the drums on Monday and we'll be once again work together with David Castillo (who engineered and mixed 'Night Is The New Day'), so even though we always strive to improve our productions, it should sound sweet that it's the same team putting this one together, just throw in some new gear, gadgets and toys with that! The recordings as well as the mix will be divided between Ghostward and our own HQ over the next month and we'll keep you posted on the progress.
"So, how does the material sound like? Well, you got the lush textures, the moody melodies, the heavy parts, the progressive touches, the mellow bits and so on... Is it metal? Is it rock? Is it alternative? Is it singer/songwriter? Actually at times it feels like we're exploring territories where Katatonia would be an orphan in the land of 'genres.' We can't tell where and to whom we belong and the goal is that it doesn't even matter, because before and above any genre there's first an acceptance level of music being good, or being bad. Katatonia might be bad people, but we create good music. Amen.
"We also hooked up again with keyboard maestro extraordinaire Frank Default and regardless of the internet speculations, he's not to 'blame' for the increased use of electronics since the last album. That part has been called for as we simply feel that it has grown to fill a hole in our sound inside, or alongside, the classic formation of instruments. In our world, we allow mellotrones, hammonds, rhodes and strings to integrate with loops, distortion and filters to manifest in the katatonic maelstrom. It's our time to marry contemporary with vintage. Here's our 9th album to be delivered!"

Today Noisecreep premieres behind-the-scenes footage of Orange Goblin’s “Red Tide Rising” video, the opening track off the band’s forthcoming "A Eulogy For The Damned" full-length, which i set for North American release on February 14th, 2012. The video clip is loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft stories and was shot in a series of dilapidated buildings around the UK.
Elaborated vocalist Ben Ward of the video: “We made the terrible decision to make the video for ‘Red Tide Rising’ the day after the London Christmas show so it meant we all had to be up bright and early, with very severe hangovers and head down to the New Forest. Luckily it was a bright, sunny day so everyone was in good spirits and the production crew went to work setting up at the location, which was some sort of abandoned army barracks in the middle of nowhere! It could have doubled as the location for Hostel 4!
"In the meantime, the band was dragged halfway across Dorset to do a photo shoot whilst being attacked by rampaging horses! When we returned, thankful to be alive, we were ready to go and the recording process was very pleasant and quite a lot of fun! We already knew that the footage of us would be mixed with some animation that we’d acquired the use of so we weren’t required to do anything too ambitious, just repeatedly go over the track imagining we were playing it to 100,000 people at Wembley stadium! Fuelled by tea and biscuits we got the job done and the results look great!”
For the past few years, your best bet to catch Lamb of God has been at an amphitheater or arena on a massive stage on a package tour.
But the gods of metal have smiled upon the East Coast as the Virginia band hit six small clubs this month to roll out their speaker-shattering latest disc, “Resolution.” I was among the lucky thousand or so packed into the Paradise in Boston this week and witnessed first-hand the band’s raw force. They slayed – simple and plain.
Massachusetts’ own The Acacia Strain opened with a grinding set of chugging, angry hardcore that brought the club to a near riot. I last saw these guys on Warped tour last summer when towering vocalist Vincent Bennett terrified the Ashleys and Tylers and scared the eyeliner off the emo kids. More...

"In the meantime, realistic plans for a DVD are being done. The first part of it will be shot at this year's Kings Of Black Metal festival, if everything goes as planned. We'll shoot another show later on this Autumn and we'll add some extras for good. The DVD will be out sometime in 2013.

If there's one thing that hits a sour note with Alissa White-Gluz, the powerful voice of Québécois metal band The Agonist, it's animal abuse. The singer uses her voice to raise awareness about animal suffering every chance she gets, and that's one of the reasons why she's snagged a Libby Award in the category of Breakthrough Artist from peta2, PETA's youth division. The sixth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is for "liberation") honors animal-friendly people and products.
White-Gluz took a stand against the annual seal slaughter in her native Canada by shooting a striking peta2 ad that shows her above a photo of a baby seal who is about to be clubbed and reads, "Bang Your Own Head, Not a Seal's." She also sat down for an exclusive interview with peta2.
"The seal hunt is something I'm so ashamed to even be remotely associated with," says the Canadian-born vocalist, who also discusses how grateful she is that she was raised vegetarian and has since gone vegan. "I'm shocked that it's still going on and still encouraged by the government." More...

In regards to the upcoming tour, Turisas frontman Mathias Nygard comments: "It took time, but finally we had a chance to make it back to North America. After many successful tours there with acts like Cradle of Filth and Dragonforce during the past few years, it's great to return as a headliner. This is a killer combo with great variety-- some of the most twisted acts of the folkier side of metal! Be prepared for a great night out-- I expect to witness some crazy audiences!"

Biohazard reunited in 2008 with the line-up that arguably performed the best albums the band has written to date, including the self-titled debut, “Urban Discipline,” and “State Of The World Address.” They went on several tours to celebrate the band’s 20th anniversary, and even found some time to get back in the studio and record a new record, “Reborn In Defiance.” While it was important for fans to hear music from the core group of musicians who made some of the most reveled hardcore records of the ‘90s, the reunion was also an opportunity for four guys to come together after over a decade apart and hash out their difference. I spoke to guitarist Bobby Hambel about his return to the band, bassist/vocalist Evan Seinfeld’s departure, and his excitement of Black Sabbath going back out on tour. More...
