Skeletal remains of what is believed to be Morgan Dana Harrington, the 20-year-old Virgina Tech student who went missing following a Metallica concert in Charlottesville, Virginia on October 17, 2009, have been found on a Virginia farm 10 miles from the concert venue.
The remains reportedly have blond hair and were clad in black clothing. Missing-person fliers for Harrington described her as blond and said she was wearing a black T-shirt with the word "Pantera" on it, a black miniskirt, black tights and black boots when she disappeared.
At a news conference, authorities said they were confident the remains are those of Harrington. "There were significant items and evidence" found to support the identification, Virginia State Police Superintendent Steve Flaherty said, although he would not elaborate. Police did not give any information about how she died. The body was being taken to Richmond for an autopsy.
The Harrington family offered a $100,000 reward for her return or information leading to the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance, to which Metallica added another $50,000.
Metallica commented on the latest turn of events:
"Our most sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Morgan Dana Harrington, the 20 year old Virginia Tech student who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA. Sadly, Morgan's body was found yesterday ending her family's three month vigil hoping and praying for her safe return. Mere words cannot express the anguish and grief that we know her parents Dan and Gil are feeling, and our thoughts are with them.
"If you have any information at all about Morgan's death, please contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3425 or the UVA Police at (434) 352-3467 or email@example.com."

Dutch female-fronted metallers Alerion have issued the following update about writing new material and seeking a new keyboardist:
"Hi everyone, as I'm writing this we are still looking for a new keyboardist. I've had some contacts which seemed promising, even a few auditions took place, but so far the search has been unsuccessful. Which is unfortunate, as we have four new songs all ready to go, except for the keyboard parts. Some keyboard parts have been written, but most haven't. When we find our new band member, we'll be able to complete those songs and perform them live. Moreover, we can then start creating more new songs. Our future keyboard player will therefore have the opportunity to put his stamp on Alerion right away.
"Of these four new songs, two have been played live a few times, even though the keyboard parts aren't really done yet. These are Colourblind and A Life Less Ordinary. So you might have catched them live. Of the other songs, one will be called Chains of the Collective, and the other is still untitled. That's it for this update. We'll continue our search, we'll see how it turns out."

Vektor has issued the following recap of their recent U.S. tour alongside Heavy Artillery Records label mates Exmortus:
"People of Earth: Vektor is home at last from our first US tour Winter Mayhem, and by all accounts it was a resounding success (unless you count being fucking freezing for a solid month)! There were so many awesome shows and fun times had by all. First and foremost we have to thank everyone that showed up to the shows and rocked with us, picked up a shirt, and hung out with us. We met so many awesome people over that month that it's hard to even remember it all, and we thank you for it. Of course the other big thank you goes to our brothers in Exmortus for all of their help and for being great guys. There's not a lot of people I'd want to live in a van with, but if I had to choose, those guys would be at the top of the list. Finally, our rad merch guy and good friend Ryan Johnson deserves an honorable mention for coming along and sacrificing so much of his time just to help us out.
"We also wanted to apologize to Boston for missing out on your show, due to problems beyond our control. We are working on our summer tour plans (which will be more extensive, due to the better weather) and we will be making it up to you! Sorry to anyone who showed up to find us not there, we only had so much time to give notice that we couldn't make it. More...
In a recent interview with Noisecreep, Scorpions founding member and guitarist Rudolf Schenker discussed why the band has decided to retire after touring in support of their next studio album as well as a number of other topics. An excerpt from the interview reads as follows:
Q: First off, why the hell are you guys packing it in?
A: "We were sitting in the studio after we finished tracking Sting Of The Tail, and we realized something rather quickly. We heard these songs together, and it just captured the essence of the '80s Scorpions sound. It sounds like a combination of the best material on the Lovedrive and Crazy World albums. The songs have that feel and spirit. Then our manager had the idea to finish the band on a high note with this record. At first, we thought he was joking (laughter). But then we noticed he was completely being serious. And it turns out, he was right."
Q: So you just wanted to end the band with a high note.
A: "Yes, exactly. Look, we have been around for a long time, and we've done so many great things together. We came out of Germany when no one thought a band from there could rock hard. We've always believed in the band and had fun doing it. Sting Of Te Tail sounds like a classic Scorpions album, so we decided to leave after we get done touring it since it's such a powerful record."

Vocalist K.K. of Destroyer 666 has issued the following post-tour recap:
"Australian Defiance tour. Well it all ended some days ago, and it was worth the all the heat and early morning flights. Some killer crowds, some killer times. To finish up in Sydney and Melbourne was indeed a fitting end to the first half of the World Defiance Tour. We have discussed making our next trip down under a lot less than 6 years between. It is too long we know, but is dependent on many factors, many beyond our control. For those who still want shirts, we have Australian and AntiChrist shirts (back side with tour dates) and Girlys (back side with tour dates) available at Smoke Dreams on Flinders Street Melbourne and through Apocalyptor Records."

"Finnally we got a hold of an internet connection and a couple of minutes to spare. So of course we gotta post a blog. It is day 9 on the road and we are sitting in a kick-ass apartment in the middle of Bucharest. As usual the weather is colder than we hoped for but its a little bit milder now at least. About the apartment, our tour manager Mr.Coro booked us in a really nice place in which we will be staying a couple of days to relax with a lots of beer and the usual stuff.
"I'll try to keep you up to speed about the days since our last post. After the first show in Bucharest as opening act for the big Rumanian band Negura Bunget, which was a great show. We headed for Galati to play a smaller venue which was called Abyss Bar. Together with a the really cool guys from the band Eufobia we had a killer time and played our asses of. As soon as we arrived at Abyss the heavy drinking started. As soon as you've finished your beer they stood next to you with a refill. Talk about service minded. I gotta tell you about the jam-session as well. After we were finished with our set, a guy named Mauritz (I think it was) asked if we wanted to get a jam going. Said and done, some of us and some of the guys in Eufobia and some local people got a kick-ass jam going on. One of the funniest things I've ever had the privilege to witness. More...

Cleveland, Ohio's death grinders EMBALMER are currently writing material for their next full length album, to be entitled "The Apocalyptic Bloodshower" (label tba). According to the band, "the new material is spewing out sicker than ever, and sounding way more intense and brutal than any of the previous stuff." The album is announced as being a return to the classic elements of their "Rotting Remains" and "There Was Blood Everywhere" releases of the '90s, "but with faster, face peeling grinds, a heavier overall sound / production, and all the trademark brutal and tortured vocals the band was known for in the '90s." EMBALMER have just released a brand new "2009 Promo II" that will be shopped to labels, and also be available for free through the band's MySpace page. The material originally appeared on their first 2009 promo, but it got completely re-mixed / mastered with brand new vocals and other improvements. In December 2009 In Flames did their biggest Swedish headline shows in their career and played in front of 19,000 people over three days/shows (Stockholm/Hovet – Gothenburg/Scandinavium – Malmö/Arena). When we booked the headline shows last year we all said that they are to be the last shows for quite some time, especially back home in Sweden. But we had such an amazing time with all of you, our amazing fans, so when we got the question if we wanted to headline Metaltown and Arvika this summer the decision was pretty easy. YES!!! We have played both festivals before and had a fantastic time on both of them so it is an understatement to say that we are looking forward to them, both, again."

Arkansas metallers Living Sacrifice have issued the following statement about their new album "The Infinite Order" containing an accidental bonus track:
"Hey Kids and old dudes (gotta put that in these days), tomorrow on Jan. 26 2010 The Infinite Order comes out and if you have pre ordered the physical CD, you are in for a bit of treat, though it was actually a mistake. Track 12 on the CD is called 'Of My Flesh, Of My Heart' and was not supposed to be on the CD. It was a bonus song that we were saving for a possible European release. When the manufacturer pressed the CDs, they used the wrong master that included this song. That is why there is no track listing or lyrics for it. So, if you have already ordered it or decide to get the CD version relatively soon, you will have this bonus song, and what will hopefully become a 'collector's version.' Subsequent pressings will not have this track and it will not appear on Itunes. So, enjoy the record and we hope to see you on the road so that we can play some of these tunes live."
