Metal Blade Records has announced the worldwide signing of the French band, DARKNESS DYNAMITE.
DARKNESS DYNAMITE was formed in January 2007 and already recorded their first EP, "Through The Ashes Of The Wolves," in June of the same year. This release overwhelmed both fans and critics, and DARKNESS DYNAMITE soon signed a distribution deal with Musicat to reach a broader audience.
In 2008 DARKNESS DYNAMITE started the composition of their first album. As the writing process unfolded, a few artistic feuds began to rise between the band and their former singer, who was later asked to leave the band. DARKNESS DYNAMITE welcomed in Junior Rodriguez on vocals. This new blood brought the extra creativity the band was starving for. More...

Former Skid Row frontman and actor, Sebastian Bach has posted the following message online regarding his plans for the future:
"My plan in 2009 is to release two CDs if possible. One will be the (country) CD I am working on with Jeffrey Steele and Vicky McGehee, the team that brought you 'Battle With The Bottle'. The other CD will be a straight-up, hard ass rocker, the follow up to Angel Down. I plan on writing this record with my band, Roy Z hopefully and definitely Jamey Jasta of the band HATEBREED. Jamey and I are getting together this month to record some demos. I am not going to make a Hatebreed record. I am going to work on material with Jamey that will be heavy and anthemic but still make sense next to the other CDs I have done.
"I am also planning on releasing a new DVD in 2009. Can't go into the details quite yet, but there will be more hi-quality live DVD material coming your way this year, a la Roadrage. Looks like I will be starting work on the new DVD this month.
"Don't get confused by me doing a 'country' album and a 'rock' album at the same time. I have always hated labels. What I have learned over my lifetime is, I don't make decisions for my voice, my voice makes decisions for me. I have to get out of the way of my own voice so it can be heard loud and clear. My only objective in making CDs is to make them 'good'. Hopefully these two new CDs will fall into this category!
"All the best and hope to see you on the road again sometime soon!"
Canada’s female fronted band THE AGONIST strikes back with their second full length, "Lullabies For The Dormant Mind." As a first impression of this effort, the two brand-new tracks “The Tempest (The Siren's Song; The Banshee's Cry)” and “Martyr Art” have been posted at the band’s freshly redesigned Myspace site.
The quintet, born in 2004, covers a wide range of styles from classical to black metal. Their debut album, “Once Only Imagined” (2007), caught the eyes and ears of many musicians and music fans alike, and their sophomore album, “Lullabies for the Dormant Mind,” set to be released on February 23, 2009 (Europe) and March 10, 2009 (USA), will once again prove the diverse talents of these young musicians. The a cappella version of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake is only one example of the band’s musical abilities as it exhibits Alissa’s wide range of vocal skills and professionalism as a singer.
Produced by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Mythosis), "Lullabies for the Dormant Mind" exposes new facets of the band and touches upon classical, jazz, opera, grindcore, thrash and black metal influences in a complete metal opus.

ALTAR OF PLAGUES announced the completion of their new album today. Their record label, Profound Lore Records, issued the following statement:
Ireland’s most promising extreme metal band since Primordial, ALTAR OF PLAGUES, have completed work on their monstrous, atmospherically crushing debut full-length album, “White Tomb”.
Already gaining quite a reputation with their “Through The Cracks Of The Earth” demo and especially with their self-released epic “Sol” EP (and along with touring the UK with MAYHEM, in which a few testimonials would reveal that Altar Of Plagues would upstage the Norwegian legends during the tour), Altar Of Plagues have morphed their layered sound into an apocalyptic sonic maelstrom that not only upholds the band’s black metal beginnings, but takes that initial paradigm and into more-vast, epic, experimental and ambient cinematic musical terrain. Where “Sol” was an immense progression from their demo, taking the band’s bleak vision of a scenario of desolate and abandoned urban wastelands and creating and shaping their distinct style of apocalyptic virulent melodic black metal, “White Tomb” takes the sonic vision of “Sol” and expands it much further into new epic, destructive and desolate, collapsing, and unforgiving sonic realms. If black metal traditionally conjures scenes of epic nature, massive cascading waterfalls and engulfing forests, Altar Of Plagues creates stark images of crumbling skyscrapers, dying and rotten urban structures, empty cracked worn down highways and desolate vast oceans.
The album’s warm edged sound and uncompromising production portray’s the band’s visceral wall-of-sound effect without falling into a typical synthetically triggered digital-sounding paradigm nor falling into a post-whatever sounding mess. Other elements such as KHANATE/BURNING WITCH-esque painful slow trudging doom also find their way into the mix as “White Tomb” also features guest vocals from Nathan Misterek of the now defunct doom gods GRAVES AT SEA, minimalistic electronica and haunting Cold Meat Industry industrial ambient, along with the towering apocalyptic vibes of OLD MAN GLOOM and old-school ISIS (“Mosquito Control/Celestial” era) layered with the instrumental textures that bands like MOGWAI and RED SPAROWES portray, “White Tomb” (mastered by Colin Marston of KRALLICE/BEHOLD… THE ARCTOPUS/DYSRHYTHMIA etc.) is a vicious and atmospheric pillage that orchestrates the collapse of Earth; a depiction of civilization (or what’s left of it) in despair attempting to re-build a world destroyed and shattered by their own hands. Teaming up with STRATOVARIUS makes this such a killer package. They are a band with quality, catchy melodic songs and a high level of musicianship. They are pioneers in their genre. They are definitely a band that has inspired us and we are honoured to share the same stage with them!!

"First off, I'm better, not sick at all. I even managed the whole trip to India without shitting myself which is a grand achievement. Christmas was fine, New Year's Eve was fine. We had dinner with my friends, the band... and Jonas and Anders (KATATONIA) and my friend the King with their respective girlfriends/wives. Eyesofsound is set for a strictly limited release that brings together the late Bossk with labelmates Rinoa.
Rinoa follow up their stunning debut EP with new song "Fires In The Distant North" and live favourite "Eyes Closed," a newly recorded song that pre-dates the EP. Both were recorded in January 2009 at Bandit Studios with Jonny Renshaw of Devil Sold His Soul.
Fresh out of the studio, Rinoa guitarist, Jozef Norocky also of Symmetry speaks about the recording:

To be released only on vinyl with a digital download voucher and limited to 500 hand numbered copies, this release will be available exclusively from Eyesofsound.
In the meantime you can check out a pre-mastered version of "Eyes Closed" by Rinoa on their Myspace page.
