Just after the “To the Grave” album, Iron Fire made a pact. With a changing world and the ever growing stagnation surrounding power metal these days, the band made a decision to play with the sound to freshen it up and elevate the band beyond the norm and above the fray. The change was delayed a bit with the release of “Metalmorphosized,” which was not the original planned album, but one that ended up as a collection of unused songs that were re-recorded along with three newer sounding tracks that were intended for a later release. It was a test by the band to see how the fans would react, mixing standard brand Iron Fire with new fresher sounding power metal. With the reaction solid, the band continued to “metalmorphosize” the sound until it eventually became “Voyage of the Damned” (see our review here).
Martin Steene caught up with Metal Underground to discuss his views on power metal, how it needs to change and why Iron Fire had to make a leap of faith in an effort to separate itself from the pack and drive the power metal scene into a new stratosphere. Steene also makes a desperate plea for a phone call from Ayreon's Arjen Anthony Lucassen! More...

Benevolent’s guitarist/vocalist Hadi Sarieddine has confirmed that the band is nearing the end of the writing and pre-production process for the band's debut full-length album, following the "Divided" EP (2010) which saw the Lebanese-founded metal band signing with Spellbind Records.
Hadi describes the material as “dramatic, technical, uneasy, and progressive” stating that the album is a step up from the bands’ previous work and pushes the group’s limits and boundaries ahead. “This album’s definitely a fine blend of lots of dramatic moments, the songs are heavier than before and I think it’s an honest attempt at pushing our artistic limits further.”
Hadi went on to say, “The songs are longer, the soundscapes and textural backgrounds are there and there’s a whole new tuning on the album…I think there’s only one or two songs that share the tunings used on Divided EP and I’ve taken that as a conscious decision, I wanted to explore writing riffs in different tunings…it felt like uncharted territory for me and that definitely got the creative juices flowing!” More...

"'Batavi' is a concept album that deals with the early history of the Batavian tribe: from its beginnings to its daring revolt against one of the greatest empires the world has ever seen. Set against the backdrop of war, alliances, intrigue, and betrayal, the nine songs relate the struggle of a people needing to redefine themselves in order to survive this turbulent time. More...

I have enjoyed my time in HALCYON WAY and it has been a life defining tenure. Me and the guys all remain brothers and I look forward to everything HALCYON WAY has to offer the metal world in the years to come. It was a true privilege to write and contribute to the band, and to hear what was in my head fleshed out on the albums was a joy all its own. See all of you guys in the front row at the next HW show! We would also like to thank Eric Roberts, Rob Fisher from Void Of Reason, and Mike Perrone for filling in with us on several live dates when Zane's situation was a little unclear - you guys were a big help to us and we appreciate it."

"I was a huge fan of Riot's Fire Down Under album and got to interview them for my fanzine. Great guys and I was lucky enough to finally re-issue Fire Down Under and the other early Riot albums on Metal Blade. We signed the band for their second run, so to speak, and put out some records in the '90s that did well, especially in Europe and Japan. It was a pleasure working with them and Mark was always a kind soul — an amazing player who really has a big time place in the history of metal.
