Hortus Animae has re-formed to work on a new album to follow 2005's "The Blow of Furious Winds." The band issued the following statement about regrouping and launching a crowd funding campaign:
"The Hortus Animae cult is back! You will probably be pleased to know that we decided to reform and we are fully immersed in the work for our comeback album: At the End of Doomsday!
"Thanks to the constant affection that you fans have never stopped showing us and the incessant interest from press, labels and media...we are convinced that the time is finally ripe for our comeback with the successor to the monumental 'The Blow of Furious Winds,' dated 2005.
"But...we need your help! To cope with the massive expenses that recording an album requires, we have created a fundraising website where you can donate any amount for us to be able to record the new album and you to receive rewards from the band, you'll find all the details on how to donate and what to get at this location. A heartfelt hank you by HORTUS ANIMAE!" More...
Vancouver progressive rockers Fen (not to be confused with the U.K. atmospheric black metal act of the same name) have posted a video for the title track of their fifth and latest album "Of Losing Interest."
Vocalist / guitarist Doug Harrison comments: "The song 'Of Losing Interest' broke new ground for us. We didn't try to shape it into some convoluted or grandiose structure. We just let the riff be a riff and do its job and we kept the dynamics fairly steady throughout. At one point I considered titling the song, The Grump, based on the fact that the lyrics are from the perspective of someone who detests social interactions and does what he can to either cut them short or avoid them altogether. Overall, the video is a lofi attempt to reveal what might be inside his head." More...
Spanish death metal act Wormed is pleased to announce the release of a second full-length. Titled "Exodromos," the ten-track production was recorded at Sadman Studios in Madrid, Spain and mastered by Mika Jussila (Amorphis, Impaled Nazarene, Children of Bodom, Nightwish etc.) at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland.
"Exodromos" will detonate on March 26th, 2013 via Willowtip Records. The opening track from the release can be heard below, and the following press release was issued about the album:
"Sophisticated, sharp and meticulously calculated, with Exodromos Wormed delivers an unhinged onslaught of concentrated brutality. Made of dissonant yet dynamic guitar work traveling at breakneck speeds, the record offers up some of the band’s most technical and plainly obliterating material to date. Exodromos is a prequel to Planisphaerium -- originally released in 2003 via Macabre Mementos Records in Japan then given the remastered treatment by Willowtip -- a story which speaks of futuristic science concepts and chaotic visions of the last human left in the cosmos."
The track listing is as follows:
2. The Nonlocality Trilemma
4. Solar Neutrinos
5. Multivectorial Reionization
6. Spacetime Ekleipsis Vorticity
7. Darkflow Quadrivium
8. Stellar Depopulation
9. Techkinox Wormhole

Switzerland's intense black metal outfit Vuyvr will unleash its debut full-length, "Eiskalt," on 12" vinyl this coming February 28th via Throatruiner Records and Blastbeat Mailmurder. Formed less than one year ago by members of seminal underground metallic hardcore acts, the band recorded these nine tracks within a day.
You can stream two tracks off "Eiskalt" in the player below, or check out the Richey Beckett-created artwork below.
"Trying to determine why Vuyvr’s debut album 'Eiskalt' is a stimulating and refreshing take on black metal is not an easy task. Hailing from Switzerland, their sound initially appears to be rather traditional, obviously influenced by a number of Norwegian and Swedish meisters of the genre. More...
Netherbird has checked in with the following announcement about canceling upcoming European tour dates due to health issues:
"Greetings all, I have some sad news to share. We, the guys of Netherbird, will have to cancel our tour to Romania, Serbia, and Bosnia scheduled 22 Feb – 2 March 2013.
"The reason is that one of our members is having a serious health problem that currently makes it impossible for him to tour. He has just started to receive treatment and that process is tough and will take time, but we are convinced that he will make a full recovery. In the meantime we will do all in our power to support him and one step is to cancel this tour. In these circumstances we do not even consider bringing in a replacement, we rather wait until all five of us are in full strength and can find new tour dates and deliver one hell of a live show.
"We will work to re-schedule the gigs and it is very important to also underline that it is not due to any problems with any of the organizers, they have done a great job. We hope we get the chance to work with them all when new dates are being scheduled.
"We will not answer any questions regarding our member and his state since it is personal, but all other questions are of course, as always, welcome! We look forward to seeing you as soon as we are back in full force!" More...

Blending Stevens’ history and unique 'Savatage style' with the fresh sounds he’s meticulously developed with CIIC, Seasons Will Fall is a commanding fusion of metal and hard rock, powered by his passionate melodic rock vocals."
Stevens comments of the theme behind the "Killing Death" track: “The lyrics are basically about taking control of something that is detrimental or that may be shortening your life. It’s about ridding yourself of the things that you know are making your days numbered before they wind up actually killing you.”

Finnish symphonic metal act Epicrenel will release "The Crystal Throne" via Inverse Records. The band comments on the album:
"Proceeding in the vein of those good old school fantasy stories, The Crystal Throne offers some truly firmament touching choruses, challenging atonalish-classical solo escapades and horizon-wide orchestrations alike. All this is bound up with a map, and the tight chronological lyrics where the party travels through the agonizing caves, spacious moors and mountains, all the way to face their final challenge... Are rats capable of defeating a party stumbling in a cave? Can souls be fettered behind bars? Should were-spiders belong to the Amnestys list of endangered species? Is it possible for a lightning to strike at a stony castle tower? Epicrenel provides the answers to these tricky questions with their shamelessly challenging debut album, filling the gaps and expectations of the genre with uncompromising storytelling and high-flying virtuocity. Warning: Contains no dragon ingredients..."

We believe the album is pushing Rock and metal into 2013 and further and that it has something new to offer. It was a pleasure working with Independent Element for the video, and it was nice to break away from the standard formula of video clips around today. Rampant dogs is jumping out of your loudspeakers, daggers and bullets comes at you like a wall of horizontal rain. This is metal the way it was meant to be. Totally vicious and utterly dangerous!

Grotesque stories about some of the worlds worst serial killers, detailed information about horrendous ancient torture methods, war crimes, mass murder and chemicals, addiction and rotten human skin."
