Acclaimed drummer Bobby Jarzombek (Fates Warning, Riot) has posted drum footage of the song "Aggrezzor" from the forthcoming Zierler Projects, album which is currently in the mixing stages. Check out the clip below. Bobby comments:
"It's been a long time coming but I'm finally in the home stretch with the Zierler Projects recording and about to edit the last tune so it can be handed off for to Finn (Zierler) for mixing. I've been documenting my part of the recording process so I wanted to give everyone a video sneak peek of the work involved on my end. This is probably the most progressive stuff I've done since Spastic Ink - 'Ink Compatible' almost 10 years ago so it's been a real challenge to put all these crazy parts down to tape over the past 12 months whenever I could find some time between Bach, Fates, and Arch/Matheos gigs."
In addition to Jarzombek, the Zierler Projects line-up consists of keyboardist/mastermind Finn Zierler (Beyond Twilght), vocalist Kelly Sundown Carpenter (Beyond Twilight, Eypsode), guitarist/bassist Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry), and bassist Truls Haugen (Insense, Circus Maximus). More...

"The video illustrates inner conflict in an explicit manner, using abuse of unjust power in different contexts. The lyrical themes of downfall, embracing of decadence and failed attempts to escape are pointed out by the fact that ultimately the bad guys win."

"Atte is a well known character in the Stockholm metal scene and a very skilled guitar player. Most people recognize Atte as the man behind Blackshine, but for all you old school death metal fans you should know that Atte was the man to lay down the vocals on the classic Necrophobic debut album 'The Nocturnal Silence.'
"Thru the years Atte has built up quite an experience after having supported and been on tour with UDO, Bruce Dickinson, Moonspell and Lacuna Coil to mention a few. He´s a true metalhead and rocks like nobody else – welcome aboard! More...

Speaking on the new music and double EP concept, vocalist Chadwick Johnson commented: "We've been in transition since our last release, so we wanted a chance to explore before releasing another LP. Elements of the band are still there, however it's less of a fusion and more of a distinct separation. I'm not going to throw a myriad of adjectives out, but it's a definite progression for us."
The "Revolt" track listing is as follows:
3. Free Mind / Open Spirit
5. Euclid (Slave Song) More...

Walk As Chaos, the new extreme progressive metal collaboration from Alan Sacha Laskow (Divinity, Enditol) and Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (Out of Your Mouth, Autobody), is proud to unleash a new music video in support of first single "Impasse." Check out the video below.
Directed by Doug Cook, the video incorporates various film making techniques like old school stop-motion photography, computer graphic elements mixed with live action, along with fantastic set and costume design to bring "Impasse" to the visual forefront.
Alan Sacha Laskow comments: "We are super excited about our new music video for 'Impasse.' Doug Cook (director) went the extra mile and we are proud to say we feel it sticks out as being modern & inventive - just like our music. When we started talking about how to bring the song into the visual realm, Doug decided the backdrop should be a futuristic world made up of lines that had a difficult time connecting with each other, like a maze. He also wanted to put Jerrod and I into situations that showcased our collaboration (singer/engineer) but also the frustration one can be faced with when being at a impasse, whether is be Man vs. Man, Man vs. Tech and Man vs. Nature etc." More...

Hells Headbangers has announced April 16th as the release date for Cultes Des Ghoules' "Henbane."
Named after an arcane book of black magick in H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos, Cultes Des Ghoules embody arcane rituals, medieval devil worship, black blood spilling forth, screams from the abyss both nameless and numerous...all of which can be found on second full-length spell, "Henbane." The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Five years on from their classic debut album, Häxan, the mysterious Polish cult take the sulphurous, swilring gnarliness they've plied on their splits in the interim - and particuarly on the preceding Spectres Over Transylvania MLP - and drag it deeper into the eldritch depths. Both more compositionally advanced and more primitive than all previous, vocals ranging throats both ghoulish and diseased, and still with the most overpowering, bass-driven sound around: Cultes Des Ghoules make their grandest, most garish statement yet with the epic Henbane. Listening to this just once, you'll be damned for all eternity..."

1. Idylls of the Chosen Damned
2. The Passion of A Sorceress
3. Vintage Black Magic
4. Festival of Devotion

Candlelight Records today confirms April 23rd as the North American release date for "Withdrawal," the third album from black metallers Woe.
Produced by vocalist/guitarist Chris Grigg and mastered by Colin Marston, the album features seven new songs with a running time of 43 minutes. It is the first new material by the band since 2010’s "Quietly, Undramatically" (reviewed here). "Withdrawal" reunites the band with artist and long-time friend Justin Miller.
“I spent a ton of time focusing on the production,” says Grigg in discussing the album’s creation. “We examined what Woe created since its inception in 2007 and broke it down to its core elements. The result is something that is a synthesis of the strongest elements: the unstoppable black metal ferocity of A Spell For The Death of Man mixed with the bold dynamics and smarter, more direct and personal songwriting of Quietly, Undramatically. It is our most intense, our most cohesive, our most personal.”
Recorded at studios in New York and New Jersey during the latter months of 2012, "Withdrawal" is a robust and penetrating album. It benefits from 18-months of live performances; something unavailable to Woe in the early years. “This is music that was made to be performed live,” Grigg notes. “Working with other people keeps Woe fresh. They bring new ideas and perspectives, fill in the gaps of my own abilities, and keep things moving when I slow down. This is the first Woe album to include not just riffs written by others but entire songs. Ruston (Grosse, drums) wrote 'Ceaseless Jaws.' Ben (Brand, guitar) wrote the initial draft of 'Exhausted' and then we reworked it. It's also the first album to include vocals other than mine: Grzesiek (Czapla, bass/vocals) doesn't just do backups; he has entire verses in a number of songs and is more 'second vocalist' than anything else.” More...
The short film “Black Metal” aired at Sundance Film Festival 2013 in Park City, Utah. This was the second year in a row independent film company, Austin-based film production company, Candler Productions was nominated to play the indie film juggernaut. As the film’s title suggests, corpse paint and spikes are abound with bands such as Vesperian Sorrow and Horned Almighty supplying the soundtrack.
Black metal as a form of music was probably chosen because of its violent history. While Norway’s infamous BM bands show no remorse for various crimes, not all artists creating extreme music live in an abyss of personal agony. So when dark music influences a fan to commit a crime, how would the guilt of this tragedy affect the artists, especially someone with a family? Writer and Director Kat Candler explores the aftermath of such a tragedy and asks the question: Who is to blame? Who should take responsibility for such terrible acts?
Before taking “Black Metal” to Sundance, Metal Underground.com watched the film at a private screening. Afterwards, we talked to lead actor and producer Jonny Mars and fellow producer Kelly Williams about researching black metal and attending the massive indie film fest. Although the film is only nine-minutes, Candler said she plans to make the film a full-length feature. Before reading our Q and A, please watch the film embedded below. More...

Living Flesh, the first ever live performance from Nader Sadek's critically acclaimed "In the Flesh" project will be self-released on CD/DVD February 27th. Capturing the inimitable stage presence of a unique collaboration of death metal and black metal giants, "Living Flesh" offers the heavy, haunting soundtrack of a society ever more soaked in the reanimated, decomposed bio-matter we know as petroleum.
The November 20th, 2011 show featured the original line-up of musicians from the "In the Flesh" record, as well as two new performers. The original line-up consisted of Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy); Rune Eriksen (Aura Noir, Ava Inferi, ex-Mayhem); Novy (ex-Behemoth and ex-Vader); and Steve Tucker (ex-Morbid Angel) in his first and last live appearance for this project. Those greats are joined by Sean Frey as guest live guitarist and Carmen Simoes on backing vocals.
"Living Flesh" also brings you photos of that evening, demonstrating why Nader Sadek has been a favorite set-designer for the likes of SUNN O))) and Mayhem. Nodding to the petroleum theme, the Egyptian artist brought the drums to the front of the stage as a metaphorical engine driving the music, while the disembodied voices of the singers emerge from the rear of the stage, behind the guitars and bass. Sadek himself takes the stage to baptize small, gut-like objects in a black tar-like liquid and throw them into the crowd.
The songs themselves differ from the original studio album arrangements. Not only are they played at a much higher speed, but have been extended to allow the audience to sink into and absorb the relentless riffs. Carmen Simoes' operatic voice enhances the melodies and darkens the atmosphere. The live show also features one track that does not appear on the studio album: Flo Mounier's extraordinary drum solo that shifts from brutal mechanical noise to rhythmic musical patterns, paralleling the overlap of man and machine charted by Sadek's petroleum-based project. "Living Flesh" will also be released in a single, unique vinyl edition. Consisting of a very special packaging and extra content, this piece is limited to one exclusive copy worldwide. Details will be announced on Nader Sadek's website.
Infinitum Obscure entered Audio Zombie Recordings in Tijuana, México on January 5th and recorded a new single entitled "The Luminous Black" with producer Diego Soria. The single will be unveiling what's to come in Infinitum Obscure's upcoming full length album. The band will also be touring the U.S. in April supporting legendary Swedish death metal pioneers Sorcery. Tour dates will become available soon via Hate War Productions.
There is still no set recording date for the new album, although things are finally beginning to materialize. But, it will be recorded and produced once again by Bill Metoyer at Skull Seven Studios in Los Angeles and it will be mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio in Sweden. It will also feature once again the majestic artwork of Ketolahelvete.

Oslo's Okular has set March 4th, 2013 as the date on which sophomore effort and progressive death metal tour de force "Sexforce" will be self-released. The brainchild of composer/lyricist Andreas Aubert, Okular again offers the balanced blend of technicality, melody, and brutality first heard on the 2011 debut "Probiotic."
The album's appeal is further enhanced by the appearance of Susperia's Athera, who performs half of the lead vocals on seven of the 13 tracks, while Borknagar's Vintersorg makes a guest appearance on "The Greatest Offender."
Lyrically, Okular presents poetry describing aspects of the human existence in a vital and experientially-based form, rather than as philosophical discourse. Stream the title track and "Birth through Loss" below, or over at bandcamp. More...

Death Dealer is the name of the new band consisting of former Manowar members Ross the Boss and Rhino along with Cage vocalist Sean Peck and Ex-Dungeon guitarist Stu Marshall. The debut release "Warmaster" is expected early this year.
Ross commented on the band's sound: "The Death Dealer sound is a mighty combination of five very talented, seasoned musicians. It's classic power metal with the brutal edge of thrash, speed, and precision."
Formed last year via correspondence over the internet, as soon as work commenced on the material, Ross knew he had met his metallic match. "Well, after they sent the first tune over, I was blown away, then Stu and Sean tell me they want me to join this band, called Death Dealer. I say, 'Who else is in the band? They say, 'Rhino on drums.' I'm in! Stu goes, 'It was either you or we would have asked KK Downing to be on guitar.' Wow!"
As evidenced by such tunes as "Death Dealer," "Never to Kneel," and "The Devil's Mile," for fans of authentic, no-holds-barred, manly heavy metal, 'Warmaster' is an absolute godsend. And soon, Death Dealer will be converting metalheads worldwide to their cause. "Our future plans? Obviously to put Death Dealer on the worldwide metal map, and to engage large crowds and render them shocked and satisfied."
Death Dealer is:
Sean Peck (Cage, Empires of Eden) - Vocals
Stu Marshall (Empires of Eden, ex-Dungeon, Paindivision) - Guitar
Ross the Boss (ex-Manowar, Dictators, Manitoba) - Guitar
Rhino (ex-Manowar, Holy Hell, Angels of Babylon) - Drums
Mike Davis (Halford, ex-Lizzy Borden) - Bass More...
