Periphery Comments On Vocalist Situation

Maryland metallers Periphery have issued the following statement about parting ways with their previous vocalist:

"Hey Guys, we thought it would be appropriate to clear the air a little bit in regards to our singer situation. There's no bad blood between the members of Periphery and Chris, it just wasn't working out for a number of reasons all of which will remain private to the band and Chris. We wish him the absolute best because he is a talented front man and a great dude. Our hope is that our fans embrace this decision and realize things like this happen for a reason and not because we're trying to change our sound or for any arbitrary reasons."

Samples of Periphery's music can be found at their MySpace page.

Soilwork Reveals New Album Title

Vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid of Swedish melodic death metal band Soilwork has issued the following update discussing their new album:

"After a long but intense absence, I'm back giving you a little report on what's going on in the Soilwork camp. We have just wrapped up the last songs on the new record and i have a constant smile on my face. The title of the new album will be 'THE PANIC BROADCAST.' I'm so stoked to record this new album and i feel it's gonna be quite a challenge for everybody in the band. So how's it sounding?"

"Here's my personal take: I feel it's bigger than life to use an old cliché, but seriously, if any of you for some reason have missed some of that intricate riffing that made Soilwork unique, won't have to wait very long. I feel this record is very playful and we're not cutting down on anything, no 'is this too much information' -consideration, no 'less is more,' just pure musical joy with no boundaries, THAT'S to me what it's all about. Obviously there's gonna be some surprises like always but giving every member of this band the freedom to go apeshit, will make this record a heavy and naturally catchy one. More solos? -Check, Insane riffing?-Check, Melodic vocals?-Check, Screamy vocals?-Check, Progressive keyboards?-Check, Best metal drummer in the world?-Check, will Flink dance while recording his bass tracks, like they were nothing?-Check. Drums will be recorded in Asheville NC, starting this Saturday. Keep your eyes open for an online studio report, join us and watch every step of the new album taking form! 'THE PANIC BROADCAST' IS UPON US!"

Immolation Posts New Song, "The Purge," Online

New York based death metal band IMMOLATION has posted a brand new song called "The Purge" on their MySpace page.

Ross Dolan comments, "It was a unanimous decision to choose 'The Purge' as the first song off of 'Majesty and Decay' to debut to the world. It is the first song on the record and we think it really sets the tone for the rest of the album. 'The Purge' is an extremely aggressive and angry song that really has so many elements to it, and it is the perfect opening track as well because it takes the listener through some of the many moods and feelings contained within the album. It is a very extreme song in many ways and showcases all of the classic IMMOLATIONN elements. Lyrically the song takes the concept we started developing on 'World Agony' and expands upon it, taking it to the next level in a very extreme way. We really liked the idea behind "World Agony" and wanted to expand upon it, so when we began the process of writing lyrics for the new record while in the studio, I had the title and a loose concept for 'The Purge' and we expanded upon it. 'The Purge' is a condemning song that takes an ugly look at mankind and forces us to open our eyes and accept responsibility for our actions. It is a very dark song with lots of emotion that I think will grab the listener right from the opening notes."

The song comes off the bands upcoming record "Majesty And Decay" which will be released on March 5, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.

"It's with profound sadness and shock that [I report that] my friend and former bandmate — Joe Ptacek — has died.

"Joe was my high-school friend who formed a death-metal band with me called Broken Hope. We always dreamed of putting out albums and touring the world. After graduating, we achieved a lot of those dreams and released five albums, performed worldwide, appeared in countless international magazines and did a video for MTV. We were on Metal Blade Records and met all of our heroes and performed everywhere…

Lord Seeking Fill-In Guitarist

Lord Tim has been temporarily relieved from his guitar duties in LORD due to an ongoing hand and wrist problem for many years which has now taken the better of him. Lord Tim is now searching for a temporary guitarist to fill his shoes (not literally) on stage while Tim will take up microphone duties until his hand and wrist problem is resolved and healed.

Lord Tim released this statement on the band’s official forum:

"So… it’s no secret at all that I’ve got some big issues with my hands that have been ongoing for quite a few years. LORD’s momentum (and Dungeon’s before it) prevented me from taking any breaks when things started to hurt, so in the true tradition of this band, when things got tough, I gritted my teeth and just got on with the job.

"That’s been great for LORD and it’s meant we’ve gone from strength to strength since our first gig in early 2006, and it’s put us in a great position to do some amazing things this year. Unfortunately for me, all of that hard work has put me in a worse place than ever when it comes to the ability to actually play my instrument.

"This last year has been very full-on. We’ve been on tour constantly from March, the first part of the tour also had the final part of the Set In Stone album being recorded simultaneously, so between both of those things and the other session work I’ve done in between touring and recording our own stuff, I noticed my hands getting progressively sorer and sorer until it got to the point where I thought it would be a good idea to get a professional to look at it.

"The doctor pretty much confirmed what I’d known for a while – I need to take a lengthy break from guitar playing. The long and short of it is this: if I don’t take a lengthy break – and soon – I’ve probably got about a year of use out of my hands before I injure myself permanently and my career as a guitarist is essentially over.

"Dunno about you guys, but I’d be pretty sad about that, and we have some pretty cool things coming up that I’d like to actually be playing guitar on instead of rubbing my injured fingers and watching from the sidelines being miserable!

"That brings me to the point of this post: We’re after a guitarist to fill in temporarily for me while I rest my hands, and I take the mic as a singer only. Not sure how long it’ll be for, but the doctor suggested at least six months to a year to get them back on track. I’d like to think it won’t take anywhere near that long, but I need to do what I need to do at the end of the day.

"This is the tricky bit: finding someone to fit our very specific criteria. Keen for the job? Read on!

"We need someone that:

* Knows or can learn a LORD set quickly (which consists of LORD and Dungeon material, plus some cover songs)
* Is a very competent lead guitarist that can not only shred well, but can play in a tasteful manner, and is also a tight rhythm player
* Is able to rehearse in Wollongong once a week
* Is able to take time off work/study to do shows both local and nationally
* Is 18+ with no issues (drugs/alcoholic/moron/ego/anger problems/etc.)
* Is doing it for the love and not the money, ‘cos basically there ain’t any!

"LORD will pay for your flights, hotels, etc. when we tour – just get yourself to the airport or venue and pay for your own food and the band will look after the rest. We’ll have equipment for you to use on tour (to keep the sounds consistent with our regular sound), all you need is your guitar and your talent.

"You guys know the deal about who we are and what we do, and what you’d have to be able to do in order to do my parts, so if you aren’t up to the task, please don’t get in touch because we only have a very limited amount of time each day to try people out to see if you’re suitable. And knowing what kind of exposure you’d get, it could be a good way of promoting your own band or projects because we’d go out of our way to make sure people are aware of who you are if you get the job.

"Interested applicants, either PM me here at Ultimate Metal, or send me a message on my Facebook or MySpace page or whatever and let me know a bit about yourself. And please feel free to pass this around to anyone you think might be keen and up for the job.

"Cheers for listening, everyone! Hopefully we get this all sorted out ASAP and we’ll be back to normal in no time. Either way, this won’t be slowing LORD down this year – expect some cool announcements very soon with our plans for the year. See you all on the road, with or without a guitar in my hand!"
