Armored Saint has unveiled the cover art and the first single from their first new album "La Raza" The album's foundation was laid back in 2008 when Joey Vera and John Bush began writing new material for what would become "La Raza" and the album was completed in December at Tranzformer Studios in Burbank, CA. The album was produced by bassist Joey Vera, and engineered by Bryan Carlstrom and his assistant John Nuss. Recording was mostly done with analog equipment and the final album mix was delivered on 1 inch tape. This gives La Raza the most organic sound as possible. Fans can hear the first single, "Left Hook From Right Field," on their MySpace page.
To complete the package, the band employed photographer Stephanie Cabral and Metal Blade's own Brian Ames. Joey Vera comments further, “Metal Blade is doing a really cool digi pack package for us. We felt like the city of Los Angeles is such a big part of our fabric that we wanted to use that in the design of the artwork. So with the help of our good friend and photographer Stephanie Cabral and Brian Ames from the Metal Blade art department, we came up with a really cool package that represents our band and the music on this record. We also wanted to incorporate a 'green' action by leaving out the plastic CD tray and using recycled paper. The result is a classy and poignant package.” More...

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week’s story is from Henri Sattler of God Dethroned:
"We played Quito (Ecuador) on the South American part of our War Propaganda World Tour 2009 and there we had a slamming pit in which the whole crowd was participating. I felt like we were playing on a floating island since the whole stage was moving from its place! Even the sound desk moved from one place to another in the venue. Amps tumbling over, etc. I was the biggest madness I’ve ever experienced in my life on stage, and i was happy to leave the stage with all my teeth being in my mouth still..."
God Dethroned was recently confirmed for Austria's Kaltenbach Open Air 2010 festival and has an extensive US tour planned with Overkill, Vader, Evile, Warbringer and Woe of Tyrants early this year as well.
Check back every Tuesday for more tales from the pit.

"Hey ladies and gents! Jeff here, arriving fashionably late to the 'year-ending band blog' party. So, without further delay, let's sum up the last year and what we've been up to lately. 2009 was a very productive and rewarding year for us. Starting in January, we kicked off our first major tour supporting Rotting Christ with our new friends Epicurean. It was a cold and trying journey, but we learned a lot, made a lot of friends, and what didn't kill us certainly made us stronger.
"After a brief break at home, we hit the road with the legendary Destruction and Krisiun in March and April. Our debut album, 'Executioner,' was released on Nuclear Blast records during this tour. Again we found new friends, new challenges, and lots of good times. Another month or two at home, and in June and July we once again headed off into the sunset with Pro-Pain and Sworn Enemy to play 39 shows in 40 days! This would be our last tour with our singer/guitarist Dan Wetmore, who left the band to pursue other goals. As we said before, we wish him the best in his future endeavors. More...

BRAIN DRILL has released the following statement regrading the release of their new album "Quantum Catastrophe" via their Myspace"
"BRAIN DRILL has completed work on their follow up to 2008's tech death album, "Apocalyptic Feasting." The band will again take fans on a mind-melting voyage through the boundaries of exactly how incredibly technical death metal can be. "Quantum Catastrophe" continues to push the band to their physical limits while somehow still exhibiting their trademark and infectious hook-laden riffs.
"Guitarist Dylan Ruskin adds some insight into the musical process; "The album was definitely a huge accomplishment in the chronicling of the drill. The musical dynamics and skill level of everyone in the band have improved much more than the previous album. The songs are more technical and musically diverse but are also well balanced and catchy, including several bass breaks by Ivan Munguia and two songs written and recorded on guitar by him, entitled Awaiting Imminent Destruction and Mercy To None. Stay tuned for more."
"Quantum Catastrophe" again features cover art by Par Olofsson. The over the top cover art (which will be released shortly) perfectly complements the nearly unbelievable musicianship present on the record. Fans can get a taste of what the new material is like, as well as new drummer Ron Casey, on a recently uploaded youtube video. In the video, Dylan and Ron play the new track, Monumental Failure.
"Vocalist Steve Rathjen explains the concept behind "uantum Catastrophe;" "Universal decimation (black holes, galactic cosmic radiation), pandemic disease and zombie re-awakenings - mankind is entering an age of mass speculation as foreseen by numerous ancient cultures. Space to all humanity still primarily remains a mystery even in our days of immense technological advancements. We know this void is filled with infinite extremities which could occur at any instant; easily decimating all habitations. We also know our planet has fulfilled these mass extinctions time and again centuries in the past. The question which remains, are we due for another apocalyptic transition?"
The reissue of LIGHT THIS CITY's self-released, first record, 2004's "The Hero Cycle," hits the streets today via Prosthetic Records, home to the now defunct band's other three full length efforts. The reissue features new artwork, and can be ordered here along with other LIGHT THIS CITY items.
LIGHT THIS CITY, who disbanded in the summer of 2008, will reconvene in April 2010 to play four proper farewell shows in California. Dates and details will be announced shortly.
Suicidal Tendencies has revealed the full tracklisting for the band's upcoming "Live At The Olympic Auditorium" DVD. The band's first official DVD ever will street January 26, 2010 via the band’s own imprint, Suicidal Records. The approximately 80-minute DVD features 16 tracks including ST classics “Institutionalized,” “War Inside My Head,” and “Possessed To Skate.”
Elaborated Suicidal Tendencies founding vocalist Mike Muir: "The band started getting emails from some crazy guy that always said, 'I know you'll probably think I'm crazy, but I'm not. I'm wanna book ST for a show and I got this idea...'. Well, one by one we shot down the 'unique' ideas until one time he emailed and said the Olympic Auditorium was being bought by a Korean Church. Shouldn't it be sent off with a special last gig? The band agreed and then the work began. The promoter -- Evel Dick Donato who went on to win Big Brother -- tells a bit about the show, making of etc. on the intro. Lots of drama, none more than the day before the show when I woke up and couldn't walk. But the show must go on and the back surgery would have to wait till afterwards. SUICIDAL recorded live at the Olympic Auditorium in front of 4,000 Cycos...but now you can enjoy it in the safety of your living room."
Here's the complete "Live At The Olympic Auditorium" DVD tracklisting:
2. I Shot Reagan
