Today Aeon Zen has released a video of the top 5 guitar riffs from "Enigma." The video has been premiered through GuitarWorld.com and can be seen right here or in the player below.
Front man Rich Hinks describes the video: "What better way to show everyone some pieces of our new album than for me to perform them for you? There are so many riffs on this album that I personally consider my favourite, so it was really difficult to just choose 5 (well... 10 if you put the instruments together!). These should give you a flavour of Aeon Zen and Enigma and hopefully inspire you listen to the whole album to hear these riffs in context." More...

Facedown Records has checked in with the following statement about the upcoming Facedown Festival:
"We are very excited to announce that Facedown Fest 2013 will take place on April 12 & 13 at the Stronghold in Chino, CA. The entire active Facedown roster will be playing the event and tickets are just $10 each night! We also have a limited amount of deluxe ticket packages available which include a limited edition screen printed poster, Facedown Fest 2013 root beer, Facedown Fest T-Shirt, Facedown backpack, sunglasses and more!"
Facedown founder Jason Dunn had the following to say about this year’s fest: “Facedown Fest began in 2000 at an amazing venue called the Showcase Theatre. Over the years the fest grew and unfortunately the Showcase theatre had to shut its doors. I loved the energy of those early years from both the bands and the crowd and I am excited to have that again as Facedown Fest returns to a more intimate venue. The people at the Stronghold have been so supportive of our bands and label over the years so it just made sense to do this there. Plus, with the lower overhead we can offer $10 tickets to the people who are responsible for keeping Facedown alive for all of these years. This is one way for us to say thanks and give back to our incredible Family of supporters.”
Buckcherry has premiered a new video for “Gluttony” - the first single from the "Confessions" album - through AOL's Noisecreep.com. Check out the track right here or in the player below.
The clip was directed by Billy Jayne and features the band performing the song in a church filled with people indulging in all types of vices, while the video’s protagonist struggles to overcome his own gluttony.
The multi-platinum Los Angeles rock band will release "Confessions" February 19th, 2013 via Century Media Records and the “Gluttony” single is available for purchase through iTunes now. Buckcherry vocalist Josh Todd explains the inspiration for the “Gluttony” video: “The concept of the video is excess, consuming everything excessively, and moderation is not even in the equation. I’m very familiar with that, and a lot of guys in the band are familiar with that.”
He continues: “Because the record is called Confessions, we filmed the video in a church, we got Jesus down there--which is killer--and we got a lot of our fans in it, which is amazing. They came out on their own time and really put in a lot of sweat equity, so thank you to them.”
Guitarist Keith Nelson elaborates, “We worked with Billy Jayne, who hasn’t done a lot of music videos. It was really refreshing to see his take on what we’re doing because he totally gets the music, he’s connecting with it, and he’s taking it to a different place than a guy who does videos for a living. We got a guy who actually makes movies and TV shows to put his spin on it and it’s been really positive.” More...

Colorado brutalists Expurgate have allied with Comatose Music for the release of their debut full-length, "Dementia Tremens," on February 12th. Spewing from the Rocky Mountains like an avalanche of violence comes the guttural slamming madness known as Expurgate. The band formed in 2010 and, after numerous delays, they are finally ready to discharge their debut album.
Artwork for "Dementia Tremens" is by Kahori Takeda. The track "Vicious Human Putrilege" from Dementia Tremens as well as free downloads of the band's 2010 and 2011 demos can be found on Expurgate's Facebook page. Check out that new song below, after cover art.
Chilean blackgaze band Bauda is streaming its second album, "Euphoria...of Flesh, Men and the Great Escape," over at bandcamp, or below. The promo video for the intro to "Ghosts of Phantalassa" is also streaming after the player. Bauda was formed as the solo group of Cesar Marquez in 2006, bringing in guest musicians.
The main theme of the album is about an old whaling station in Chile called "Ballenera Quintay," (whose imagery is inferred in the video) and the extermination of the whales. "Euphoria..." is thus a conceptual album that evokes that place in Chile and is a shout to modern civilization - where men lost their sense of humanity. Bauda's first album, "Oniirica," is also playing on that bandcamp page as well.
Darkitect, the new Richmond, VA metal band featuring former Alabama Thunderpussy vocalist Johnny Throckmorton, has released 3 "production demo" tracks for streaming.
The band is currently fine-tuning more than 10 songs for an upcoming debut album, while actively searching for a label to release the record.
Razorback Recordings has signed Oniricous for a one album deal. The label issued the following statement:
"These Spanish demons play some of the absolute finest European death metal we have heard, conjuring up riff after riff of pure heaviness, speed, and horrific evil!
"Inspired by a love for pure horror themes, Lovecraft, and performed by real old-school maniacs from the actual old days instead of people pretending they came from the old days... Oniricous are currently finishing up the recording for their debut album for Razorback, titled 'Ritos Diabolicos,' due out later this year!
"The album was recorded and mixed at Moontower Studios in Spain, and features amazing cover artwork from a true MASTER of horror, the one and only Esteban Maroto from the classic 70's Creepy and Vampirella horror magazines! Razorback is thrilled to be releasing this masterpiece of total horror fucking death!" More...

Swedish metal stalwarts Destiny will soon release the albums, the band's 30th Anniversary album "The Incompatibility of Philosophical Terminology" and "Global Warming." Today, they have announced their new complete lineup as follows:
"In the beginning of 2013 the final piece of the puzzle for the new line up was added when keyboardist Carl Dahlberg joined DESTINY. This is the first time that DESTINY has a permanent keyboard player in the band, even though there have been keyboards on a few songs on all of the albums, except 'The Undiscovered Country', before. With Carl in the band there will be a new exiting dimension added to the music of DESTINY. Carl will be featured on both the anniversary album 'The Incompatibility of Philosophical Terminology' and 'Global Warming'.
"Drummer Roger Christiansson, a long time friend of Stefan for the last 25 years, even though they had never played together before, joined the band in December 2012. Roger is perfect for DESTINY on every level and already on the first rehearsal, it’s clear that Roger and Stefan will be a dynamic and heavy new rhythm section. It’s now decided that Roger will rerecord the drums for two of tracks of the anniversary album 'The Incompatibility of Philosophical Terminology.'
"Vocalist Jonas Heidgert (Dragonland) joined DESTINY in November 2012. He immediately started to record vocals for a planned digital single. Everyone that heard the result so far has been overwhelmed and there is no doubt that Jonas’s vocals and stage presence, as well as his personality will fit DESTINY perfectly both in the studio and on stage.
"Guitarist Michael Åberg has been a member of DESTINY since 2005. After all these years and numerous gigs with the band it’s time for Michael to debut on not just one, but two DESTINY albums, 'The Incompatibility of Philosophical Terminology' and 'Global Warming'.
"Finally, there is the driving force of the ever present bassist and main composer, Stefan Björnshög, whose visions and music has molded DESTINY since he founded the band way back in 1982." More...
Finland's Kalmah has posted a studio video online from the recording of a new album, which can be viewed below. Drummer Janne Kusmin also comments:
"Drums are ready and I am happy. Recordings went pretty well. Faster songs were easy and fun to play and slower songs were hard to play. Conclusion: Slow songs suck, fast songs rule or do I need more practice? Hahaa!"

Tight and full of energy 'Live You to Death' captures the power and excitement of the Vicious Rumors live performance! 9 live tracks with 2 Vicious Rumors style covers of Black Sabbath's "Sign of the Southern Cross" and Judas Priest 'Running Wild' complete this must have live album.
"No rest for the wicked. The band is in the Trident studios in San Francisco right now with Geoff Thorpe and Juan Urteaga - the same production team that brought you 'Warball,' 'Razorback Killers' and 'Live You to Death'. "Geoff Thorpe, Brian Allen, Larry Howe, Stephen Goodwin and Thean Rasmussen are back with 9 new songs and a wicked cover of 'Strange Ways' by KISS sure to satisfy the Vicious Rumors faithfull fans. 'Black X List', 'D-Block' are two thrashy speed killers while 'Escape (From Hell)' and 'Together We Unite' add a classic flavor. "The fifteen-track assault captures all of Kromosom's material previously only available on vinyl, with fifteen boasting fifteen entirely unhinged, filthy tracks, barely touching the twenty-three minute realm, all mastered for maximum pandemonium by Jack Control (World Burns to Death, Severed Head of State). If this doesn’t get you raging it's time to hang up your boots and join the rest of the sheep. Invisible Oranges is now streaming Live Forever in its raging entirety; do it!
"While final venue info is still pending, Kromosom will invade the US again this Spring. Ripping loose in Brooklyn on May 17th the quartet will pummel South alongside Nomad, stopping off to blast out a set at Maryland Deathfest XI, on their way to tear it up at this year’s Chaos in Tejas at the end of the month.

Libria is the new project/band born from the mind of Marianna Alfieri, former guitarist/bassist of Italian melodic death act Dark Lunacy. The original idea of Libria was inspired by "Equilibrium", a Kurt Wimmer's film (2002). Libria is a city-state based on a strong absolute power, controlling the mind of people by the mean of Prozium, a drug which suppresses emotions. "The 'peace' and control obtained in this way is not so different from the way our society tries to keep us blind and deaf to the awareness of Truth."
According to Alferi: "Our soul can be rescued by detaching from physical senses, and increasing the power of our mind, with strong discipline and will, without any drugs, just relying on our own mental forces. From these principles and ranging over reflections about death, life, spiritual growing and esoteric studies, the whole concept of Libria was born."
The concept, compositions, arrangements, artwork and lyrics for the debut LP "Immortal Daughter of Aesthetics" were created by Alfieri. She recorded the album with the collaboration of Fabio Palombi (Nerve/Ritual of Rebirth), who recorded and mixed vocals and drums of Massimo Marandino (Ex-Nerve/Ex-Antropofagus), at Mela Zeta Studio in Genova, Italy. The album was mastered by Tommy Talamanca (Sadist) at Nadir Music Studios. The album will be issued in 2013 through Wormholedeath/Dreamcell 11.

Anthrax has just made available a taste of the band's upcoming EP "Anthems," which is due out March 19th. "Anthem," the band's cover of the classic Rush song, can be heard through Rollingstone.com here.
In addition to the EP's cover art, each of the cover songs will have its own special artwork, each one based on the tracks' original album cover, but subtly "reimagined" by Anthrax's Charlie Benante and artist Stephen Thompson.
The "Anthems" track listing features Rush's "Anthem," Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak," "TNT" by AC/DC, Boston's "Smokin'," "Big Eyes" by Cheap Trick, Journey's "Keep on Runnin," as well as the album version and a special remix of Anthrax's "Crawl" from the band's 2011 album "Worship Music."
"Anthems" was produced by Anthrax, Jay Ruston, and Rob Caggiano, and recorded for the most part throughout 2012 literally all over the world: at Benante's home studio, in Ruston's New York studio, on the band's tour bus while on last summer's Mayhem Tour, in hotel rooms, and backstage at a Berlin show last December. Industrial black metal pioneers Mysticum is streaming the remastered version of the classic track "Where the Raven Flies." The song was originally released on the 1996 debut "In the Streams of Inferno," which will now be reissued through Peaceville Records on February 25, 2013. Recently, the band has unified the core trio of Herr General Cerastes, Prime & Dr. Best in late 2011, and the band has commenced work on the follow-up, "Planet Satan," to be released 2013.
"A perfect concoction of cold, primitive black metal & forward-thinking ideas from an act unafraid to push boundaries, the hell of 'In the Streams of Inferno' has had a lasting & profound impact on many since 1996. For this release, the album has now had some extensive remastering work courtesy of Tom Kvålsvoll at Strype Studios in Oslo to give a better representation of the sound the band initially intended, & includes 2 bonus songs. The packaging also contains new artwork made in close association with the band to fully reflect their intended vision, plus liner notes & additional lyrics.
"The CD/DVD edition of ‘In the Streams of Inferno’ also includes a bonus DVD containing two live shows from 1996. ‘Grotten’, in Asker, Norway has until now been totally unknown to the masses except for the few that were present at the show. The other show is the more well-known Bradford, UK set from Mysticum’s European tour with Marduk & Gehenna. Overall both gigs give a great glimpse into the pure atmosphere & intensity of this cult act, & a must for all fans."
