Austin, Texas drone band Wyrm is streaming one song from it's "Paramount" EP release. The track, "Cursed Ground Above Which Even A Murder Will Not Fly," can be streamed below. It is one of four songs that clock in at over forty minutes on the EP that can be accessed here in it's original form. There is also a YouTube upload of "Cursed Ground..." following the stream.
Atlanta band Whores has a new five-song EP out titled "Ruiner" on Brutal Panda records. In the group bio, the band members state "We were in other bands. Now we're in this band. Soon we will all be deaf." This pretty much sums up the band's sound, which is neolithic sludge/punk rock that fans of the Melvins or Jesus Lizard will identify with. Stream the EP "Ruiner" at this location or below.
Kambrium has been navigating the sea of bands in the bursting German scene for a couple of years now. In 2010, they self-released the stunning EP “A Silent Moon.” In 2011, the band released “Shadowpath,” which brought an overwhelmingly exciting and refreshing sound of epic progressive death metal. At the same time the band can blastbeat with the best black metal bands they could stand alongside such symphonic greats like Epica (see Metal Underground's review of "Shadowpath"). The sound drew the attention of Massacre Records who quickly signed the quintet and issued “Shadowpath” worldwide.
Keyboardist/songwriter Jan Hein checked in with Metal Underground to talk about “Shadowpath” and how a bunch of untrained musicians spawned the idea of Kambrium during a party over a couple of beers in 2005.
Extreme. Aggressive. Confrontational. Intimidating. All familiar words in the heavy metal genre, but a single listen to The Kandidate will make you wonder whether you've wasted those words on lesser, undeserving bands. This Danish quartet pummels viciously away at your sense of physical safety until you can nearly smell the lead from the aural pipe swinging toward your head. But if you can withstand the beating, you'll marvel at The Kandidate's organic, streamlined blend of heavy subgenres that boasts a sly and infectious charm beneath its tough veneer.
One of the sources of that charm is guitarist Allan Tvedebrink, who graciously phoned me from his home in Denmark to discuss his love of music and songwriting, the stylistic evolution on The Kandidate's impending sophomore album "Facing The Imminent Prospect Of Death," and more. More...
Beyond the Bridge is set to release the new album "The Old Man and the Spirit" January 24th via Frontiers Records. A brand new electronic press kit for "The Old Man and the Spirit" has been released and is available for viewing below.
"The Old Man and the Spirit" is a concept album dealing with the polarity of human sensuousness and superhuman awareness. Two main characters interpret the music on this theatrical and challenging record: "The Spirit," who is the personification of all wisdom and awareness that is unachievable to mankind but that lacks of the ability to feel, and her opponent "The Old Man:" a bon vivant who has lived through all highs and lows of human sensations. These two characters are interpreted by the two band singers: a female Dilenya Mar and a male Herbie Langhans.
But the operatic and cinematic setting of the album was put together by the bands' two masterminds: guitar player Peter Degenfeld and the classically trained ivory tinkler Christopher Tarnow. "From the beginning it was our intention to do an album presenting one big piece of music" tells Degenfeld. "One of the very first things that came about were the two characters together with the basic content of the story. Basically before the notes were written, we knew what each song had to sound and feel like and what the lyrics had to say. With these restrictions we started the songwriting process. In the end writing songs under these self-imposed limits turned out to be just great."
Common Dead has released a flashback lyric video for the song "The Epiphany," originally released in 2011 on the "Interim Flesh" EP. Common Dead commented:
"The Epiphany bounced around college radio and became a fan and critic favorite since its release one year ago on the 'Interim Flesh' EP. A music video was intended but never happened before the following 'Diatribe' album kicked off, so this new lyric video at least accompanies the song (better late than never)."
Common Dead's "Diatribe" is set for a February 21st, 2012 release date.
Stick To Your Guns is excited to announce that Josh James (Evergreen Terrace, Casey Jones) has joined the band on guitar. Stick To Your Guns and James met while on the 2008 Hell On Earth tour and have stayed close friends ever since.

Kamelot Germany has posted a new interview online with Thomas Youngblood, in which he discusses the band's turbulent last year and plans to unveil a new vocalist during Summer festival season. Excerpts from the interview follow:
Kamelot Germany: Last year was a turbulent year for Kamelot, but also very exciting with three very successful tours in Europe, South America and North America. What where your personal most memorable tour moments of 2011?
Thomas Youngblood: There were so many, some of my favorites were Santiago Chile, first show of the touring season. SOLD OUT shows like Amsterdam, New York, Montreal and Oslo, with the Kamelot Nation in full force, Salt Lake City, Utah, where we never played before and the crowd was soooo loud. There were so many amazing nights last year, all of them were really special. The touring was really a great kick for us to get back to the studio and come back asap.
KG: Writing the new album is already underway, with a planned release date for September 2012. How is it going so far?
TY: Going great, we have around 6-7 songs ready for preproduction. Oliver and I will do another songwriting session soon, we are still looking at locations. Maybe Thailand or Norway. Cold or Hot, which one to choose? Following that we will be in Germany for a few months with Sascha working on the album, along with Miro, Olaf and the usual crew there that has been with us since Karma. Special guests are being discussed now, it will be a blast, I’m looking forward to it!
KG: The deadline for submissions to become the new singer of Kamelot is by the end of January. How is the audition process going and when do you plan to announce the new singer?
TY: Auditions are going great, I think we have around 800 emails and submissions. We will not announce the new singer until later when the album is nearly finished being recorded. Unless of course it gets leaked, which these days is not too difficult. The new “Official” singer will be debuted at the Summer Festivals.

"I'm really happy about releasing this album because so much has gone into it. The speed, technicality, and the sheer brutality are some things that I'm really proud of on this album. We feel that we've finally found our own sound and we can bring something unique to the heavy metal table that hasn't been done before." commented Crimson Shadows vocalist Jimi Maltais.
The following press release was also issued about the band and release show:
"Death and power metal are not two genres that are often mixed. In fact, it’s almost unthinkable. But for Toronto, ON-based Crimson Shadows it’s all about ignoring convention and developing new sounds.
"Combining the guttural screams and blast beats of death metal with epic guitar harmonies and choruses signature to power metal, Crimson Shadows recorded their mind-shattering debut at Shatterpoint Studios at the end of 2011 and are finally ready to unleash it on the masses. More...

Aggression has already finished the band's second full-length "Viocracy," after the debut "Moshpirit," which was released back in September of 2009.
After a slight delay in the release of the album due to problems encountered at the level of production, finally the new official date of release of "Viocracy" is set for Wednesday, February 1st through Xtreem Music.
The mix of "Viocracy" took place during the month of November by Julian Janovich and mastering has been done in the Swedish Fascination Street Studio, at the hands of Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, KREATOR, SYMPHONY X). The pre-production and production was carried out entirely by the band.
Appalachian doom/rock outfit King Giant has unveil the first single from the band's sophomore LP, "Dismal Hollow," via a video for the album's opening track "Appomattox."
"Appomattox" is the third video produced and directed by Kevin James Barker for King Giant, in conjunction with Mono/Poly Creative, and was partially funded through massive support from the band's fans via a Kickstarter campaign earlier this year. Filmed on location in historic Waterford, Virginia during the Summer and Fall of 2011, the cinematic "Appomattox" video rolls in at nearly eight minutes in length, and portrays a high-action, backwoods zombie attack storyline. The brutal horror theme led us to seek the support of respected horror professionals at Rue Morgue Magazine for the worldwide premiere of the video.
Check out "Appomattox" via the player below or at Rue Morgue's website here. King Giant also has the following upcoming record release show:

"A thirty-four minute down-tempo/down-tuned ethereal funeral dirge comprised of three tracks, 'Omens' perfectly personifies what fans have come to embrace about MONARCH since their 2005 inception, their caustic, crushing style of slow-motion apocalyptic doom coming alive with haunting moans and layered, ghostly shrieks throughout Omens' entirety. The record features artwork by Yann Black and Valérie Poulin and will be released as a six-panel digipak CD in an initial pressing of 1,000 copies.
"Monarch recorded Omens over a four month period in four different countries with four different producers -- Osaka, Japan by Hironori Ochi @ Kakurega, Melbourne, Australia by Neil Thomason @ Head Gap, Montreal, Canada by Matt Cartman @ Crane Studio, and Chicago, IL by Sanford Parker @ Engine Studios -- then mixed by Sanford Parker and mastered by Collin Jordan at The Boiler Room (Twilight, Ministry, Yob). Stefan Björnshög of Swedish act Destiny has issued the following announcement about former vocalist Therese Hanserot passing away:
"Therese Hanserot 1964-01-16 2012-01-17
"Yesterday Therese Hanserot, the original lead singer in Destiny, passed away only 48 years old. Therese joined Destiny in the fall of 1982, just 18 years old, and she left the band in the summer of 1983. During this time she recorded six songs for the first ever Destiny demo as well as performing with the band on their first ever gig (at the rock club RPM). After leaving Destiny she sang in a couple of cover bands before quitting singing for good.
"At my 30th birthday party in 1990 we reconnected again, this time as friends. We realised that we had so much in common that never came to the surface in the band. For about two years we hanged out together before life once again took us in different paths.
"Last year, 18 years later, in August, we reconnected through Facebook. And it didn't take long before we where engaged and in a wonderful loving relationship. Therese planned to start playing keyboards again and even agreed to sing a small part on one of the songs for the 30th anniversary album. Now that will not happen and I will forever carry the memory of Therese in my heart.
"My sorrow is endless and the hurt is unbearable. I love you Therese!"

Ron and the band are influenced by old school bay area thrash, black metal, power and true metal. Ronus also has a full-length titled "Satanic Libations."
