Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals Hire New Bassist

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals are pleased to welcome former Cattle Decapitation bassist/current Scour guitarist Derek Engemann to the lineup.

Engemann - who takes the place of bass comrade Walter Howard (Grieved, Oppressive Force, Vaginal Bear Trap etc.) - will make his live debut with The Illegals beginning next week on the band's Latin American tour where they'll be performing Illegals tracks alongside a selection of Pantera hits.

Comments Anselmo of the new addition, "Derek is a brother; he's solid, driven, and talented. It's awesome to have him onboard and I look forward to jamming and writing with him. We're lucky to have him."

Adds Engemann, "I'm very excited to share the stage with mi hermanos in The Illegals! It's also truly an honour to pay such a great tribute to Dime and Vinnie!" More...

Edge Of Paradise Posts New Video Online

"Face Of Fear" encapsulates, in grand form, the prior evolution of Edge Of Paradise as the band turns a page to a whole new world of sound, revealed in the coming months of 2019, in the form of their third album, Universe.

Singer, Margarita Monet states; "I want to dedicate this song/video to a childhood friend of mine who took his own life, and to all those who battle their inner demons. There is a lot of hatred in this world, and the wide reach of internet and social media enables and disguises those behind it. This darkness about our society plays a big role on our mental state. If you experience negativity of others, just remember that all actions are rooted in love or fear, and hate is the face of fear! We can not let this effect us, instead we have to break the cycle and rise above it, be good and support one another regardless of race, social status or place of birth and remember that all life is worth fighting for."

Sponsored by Souls Of Rock Foundation, and directed by Val Rassi, the "Face Of Fear" video was filmed on location in the grandiose landscape of Iceland, in hopes that the beauty and magic of the planet we live on, can inspire and empower. The band chose to film in many vast remote locations, regardless of the difficulty in getting there. Both the film crew and band members embraced this challenge. For that reason, the collective decision was made to refrain from making a video full of special effects, and to focus on the massive, awe inspiring Iceland landscape, captured by our drone pilot and photographer Darren Lafreniere! Ill Niño founder and drummer Dave Chavarri says, "Sometimes being in a band is like being married - sometimes people grow apart and no longer see eye to eye, and a separation becomes inevitable. We wish our former members the best in their musical careers, and are pumped to move forward with our new band members. Not only have we toured with them, but they're very respected, seasoned musicians, and dudes that have always been our 'Familia' since day one."

Marcos Leal says, "Anyone who knows me knows the love I have for this band. I got my start singing Ill Niño covers in my younger years and this band has always held a special place in my heart. When the opportunity arose to front one of my favorite bands of all time, it was something I needed to consider."

Leal will continue to do double-duty as vocalist for both Ill Niño and Shattered Sun. More...

Athanasia To Release Debut Album In March

Los Angeles-based metal trio Athanasia - featuring former members of Five Finger Death Punch, Sebastian Bach and Murderdolls - will release its upcoming full-length album, "The Order Of The Silver Compass," on March 15th via Seeing Red Records and Rock Of Angels Records.

One might not expect the former members of such bands to be rooted in the fabric of extreme metal, but Athanasia is more than your average power trio. Questioning the moral fabric of man amidst complex narratives tackling power, corruption and greed, the band's unique amalgamation of melodic metal is enough to satisfy the desires of casual listeners and extreme metal fans alike.

Recorded and produced by Bingham at Nightmare Sound, "The Order Of The Silver Compass" embodies all things heavy, dark and stylish. The album's eight tracks were mixed by Chris Collier (Prong, Flotsam And Jetsam, Metal Church) at Mission:Black Studios and mastered by Joe Bozzi (Mastodon, L.A. Guns) at Bernie Grundman Mastering, while Jorden Haley (Dååth, Deicide, Mindless Self Indulgence) handled the cover art and design. More...

Devilment Posts Live Video Online

Witch County nefarious frights Devilment - led by vehement frontman Dani Filth - have released an official live music video for the track "Hell At My Back," which was shot during the band's storming set at Bloodstock Open Air Festival last year. You can check it out below.

The band states: "The live video for 'Hell At My Back’ was taken from Devilment’s performance at Bloodstock 2017, which was an awesome show played at an awesome festival. We had quite a riot at Bloodstock that year, with some truly unforgettable moments courtesy of meeting bands and friends amid many alcoholic beverages. This was actually the last show for both Lauren and Nick, who left the band amicably not long after the show for commitments in the real world.

'"Hell At My Back' is a precursor to our forthcoming appearance at this year’s HRH Metal III. Lyrically, the protagonist of the song is constantly haunted by his past, hunted by the horrors he has confronted since time immemorial. Awful things he has done in the name of love. But it is again another song of defiance, of staying the inevitable, of the eternal struggle of 'being’. Of evading the clutching powers of Hell." More...

Vixen will always have a very special place in my heart and I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of it. I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support over the years, and as Roxy and Share continue to keep the heart and soul of Vixen alive and well and I continue on my path, your continued support to all would be greatly appreciated. Greek extreme metal legends Rotting Christ has posted a new lyric video online for the song, "The Raven." You can check it out below. The song comes from the band's forthcoming new studio album, "The Heretics," which will be released through Season Of Mist on February 15th. Speaking about the song, the band stated:

"We can proudly present to you the third song taken from our upcoming album 'The Heretics'. 'The Raven' represents the epilogue of the album, and as we always used to do, our most atmospheric and melodic creation in every album. A tribute to one of the most literary critic writers, Edgar Alan Poe and more specifically to his poem 'The Raven' that, together with all the rest of the big heretics during the history of time, made us create our last opus.

"Enjoy the majestic trip of 'The Raven' and see you soon on our heretical path." More...

Eluveitie Reveals New Album Details

We all wade through archetypes. We all ARE archetypes. Distant echoes of a life both primeval and noble. To embrace these archetypes, to accept them not only as a part of life but as life itself is what some may call enlightenment, some peace of mind. Eluveitie call it "Ategnatos." And by using their longest gap between two Metal albums to gather momentum, they just forged their strongest album around it.

The new album "Ategnatos" will be released on April 5th 2019 via Nuclear Blast.

On an album both mystical and philosophical, Eluveitie propel mythology, pagan belief and spirituality into our modern world. "This one almost became something like a socio-critical uncovering work," says Chrigel, "some kind of a revelation, a doomsday prophecy. Dark and severe in its atmosphere and charisma, and also occult, arcane and elitist." The album itself is a manifesto, a fast-paced, highly dramatic and embellished work on which today's society sees itself in the mirror of ancient Celtic mythology and knowledge. "The image, of course, is blood-curling”, Chrigel adds with a bitter grin. "At least to those with eyes to see." Far more that a pessimistic swan song for our world, however, 'Ategnatos' holds the cathartic promise of renewal. "Ategnatos is the Gaulish word for ‘reborn’," Chrigel explains. "To the sharpened mind, it points out the concealed, long forgotten key to change and renewal." This, naturally, comes at a price. "There's always suffering before bliss. And always darkness before light." More...
