Malefice's new album "Five" is set for release this coming April 28th, 2013 through Transcend Music. The band comments:
“After being written off we’re back to where we thrive the most. Being the underdog. We’ve always delivered something new and exciting in adversity and this time is no exception. The changes we have made have given us time to regroup and reinvent the sound of this band. Expect more bounce than ever, more hate than ever and more soul than ever. This is a record of feelings, how we are, where we want to be and where we will get to.
"This is the album we always wanted to write, where the evolution has taken us and has renewed our ‘take no prisoners’ attitude, something we always have at our live shows, you can hear the clarion call to arms in this recording. All music is a personal statement, this is our statement that no matter what, nothing can hold us back, nothing will keep us down and together we can, will and have survived all the bullshit thrown at us. This record represents everything we are as a collective and as individuals. It’ll be the soundtrack to your parties in 2013.”

2. The Great Deceiver
3. Never Say Die
7. Reach Up More...
Colorado hardcore/punk/powerviolence perpetrators Call of the Void have pounded out a furious ten song record fittingly titled "Dragged Down A Dead End Path." A teaser trailer for the album can be found below, and the following press release was issued about the album:
"Blasting forth a low-end assault of dissonant chords and broken harmonies, Dragged Down A Dead End Path truly lives up to its name, beating listeners into submission with a 25+ minute sonic slaughterfest. Formerly known as Ironhorse, Call of the Void’s crust and grind elements seamlessly merge to conjure visions of grind godfathers Pig Destroyer while effortlessly treading the abrasive, caustic nature of Converge’s hybrid progressive hardcore and Mastodon’s technical metal-tinged rock mastery.
"Recorded at the Boar’s Nest in Salt Lake City, Utah by Andy Patterson, mastered by Chris Mcnaughton with the strikingly dismal cover art of Anthony Lucero, Dragged Down A Dead End Path will see digital, CD and LP North American release on March 19th, preceded by European release dates of March 15th in Germany, Benelux and Finland, and March 18th in the UK and all other territories." "Recorded and mixed by Joe Haley of Psycroptic, Australia's Eternal Rest have crafted a beast of a debut album with 'Prophetic.' Equal parts crushing and ferocious, while maintaining a level of musicianship that should be applauded in a scene that's been saturated with technical overdoses and slow-plodding nightmares. “We’re absolutely stoked on what we’ve got on our hands here. It’s been a long hard road to get to this point, especially for an EP, but I can assure all our fans that it most certainly will be worth the wait!”
Bassist Danika Ruohonen states: “The meaning behind the title Thanatos is: The daemon personification of death – as per Greek mythology. It also has relevance to post Freudian psychology, which in that context, is the term given to the 'death drive' in which people are compelled to take unnecessary risks, or engage in self destructive behaviour. Either way, we think it fits our band and this release perfectly.” More...

Finnish masters of melacholic dark metal, Amorphis, announced yesterday that the title of the band's upcoming album will be "Circle." The new album is set for release April 19th, 2013 through Nuclear Blast.
A short summary about the album's concept that spreads throughout the lyrics by Pekka Kainulainen, who wrote the lyrics for the most recent Amorphis albums, can be read below:
"The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival."
Singer Tomi Joutsen adds about the album's title: "Circle represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men's circle."
The "Circle" album follows previous release "The Beginning of Times" (reviewed here), and further details will be revealed in the coming months.

Due to unforeseen issues concerning 7 Horns 7 Eyes internally, the band has made the decision to pull out of the upcoming tour with Annex Theory this February. In spite of steps taken to try to alleviate these issues, the band will be unable to take part in the tour. However, the run itself is not cancelled and Annex Theory will press on on. Comments 7H7E guitarist Aaron Smith:
"This is certainly not the outcome we had in mind when we announced our participation in this tour, and it's really a bummer to let everyone down who had made plans to come see 7H7E play and to the promoters of the shows as well. There are several factors in our decision to cancel, including unforeseen financial strain, and it was not a decision we made quickly or lightly, but it's definitely the best decision. We fully intend and look forward to rescheduling a similar run of dates in the future (we hope with Annex Theory), so that we can make it up to our Canadian fans! We will not forget!"
7H7E released debut album, "Throes of Absolution," on April 24th, 2012 via Century Media Records in North America. The record features artwork by Travis Smith and a guest appearance by former Nevermore guitarist Jeff Loomis.
Annex Theory's latest EP, "Process Existence," was self-released last May. The effort was mixed and mastered by Travis Montgomery of Threat Signal and features a cover of the Rush track "Subdivisions."
His Masters Noise and Century Media are proud to announce the beginning of a new chapter for Watain. The band comments:
"Since the harvest, Watain has been occupied with preparations for a long and hard journey. Seeds have been sown, blades have been sharpened and new fires have been lit to illuminate the untrodden tunnels that lay before us as we descend further down the maze..."
And so it was that on the 3rd of January, three years on the day since the recording of "Lawless Darkness" did commence, Watain returned to Necromorbus Studio and began working on what is to become the group's 5th full-length album. The tentative time of release is now set for August 2013. More details will be unveiled soon.

U.K. traditional metal/hard rock act Chrome Molly will release the band's first studio LP in 23 years (1990's "Slaphead") entitled "Gunpowder Diplomacy" on January 25, 2012 via earMusic. The release also marks the band's 30th Anniversary.
The press release reads as follows: "Formed in late 1982, Chrome Molly made a bid for stardom in the mid to late 1980's (being hailed as 'the next Def Leppard' in the music press), releasing four albums, opening for Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne amongst many others, playing the legendary Marquee Club over 20 times and headlining CBGB's in New York. Together with Iron Maiden, Saxon and Blitzkrieg, the band was part of the 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal'.
"Despite drifting apart in the early 90's, the band never officially split and began to play together regularly since the mid 90's in various projects, although no attempt to tour or record was made. The re-release of their critically acclaimed debut album 'You Can't Have It All...' and its follow-up 'Stick It Out' (both re-released last year) brought the band back to the public eye and motivated the band to record and release new music.
"With the contribution of Little Angels, Fastway, Dio's Disciples' singer/producer Toby Jepson, Chrome Molly have produced a new album that marks their finest hour. Bringing a fresh and heavy sound to their hook and riff-laden songs, Jepson has brought the Mollies back with a vengeance. 'Gunpowder Diplomacy' features 11 news tracks featuring original members Steve Hawkins (vocals), John Antcliffe (Guitars), Nic Wastell (Bass) and new boy (since 1990) Greg Ellis (drums).
"Chrome Molly mark 30 years of honest, exciting and true to the roots heavy metal and guess what, they have not mellowed with age." More...
