There's no other way to describe “Takasago Army” other than an absolute masterpiece of an album that's going to go down in history as one of the best metal albums of the past decade. It made enough of an impression on me that I absolutely had to meet the band myself. This was the first time since I was writing for Ultimate Poser Blog that interviewing a band had managed to turn me into a drooling fanboy. Thankfully, I was able to meet all of Chthonic, and found that everyone in the band is absolutely 100% awesome despite my wide-eyed fanboyism emanating as an aura around me. Freddy Lim was cool enough to chat with Metalunderground.com about Taiwanese politics, the Far East metal scene in Asia and Oceania, and an actual terrorist threat against the band's most recent North American tour. Danish power metal band Iron Fire has posted a new music video for the "Leviathan." The song appears on the band's seventh full length album "Voyage Of The Damned," which is scheduled for release on January 27, 2012 through Napalm Records (See Metal Underground's review at this location).

We've been catching up with metal bands and fans all over to get their best mosh pit stories. This week Prong's Tommy Victor shares the following tale of full frontal male nudity and on-stage theft:
Even though Prong was originally based out of the Lower East Side of Manhattan New York City, we've has some crazy shows out in L.A. Mainly in Hollywood at the Whiskey. For those who are unfamiliar, the lower level is all pit area, with the exception of a few booths by the lower bar. The sound there is always good. Lots of low end and high volume throughout the club, especially downstairs. There isn't a barricade, So if you are onstage you are very connected to the pit audience, literally on top of the crowd.
We did a show years back that was way sold out, that had a few memorable episodes. We were touting like crazy, partying like crazy, pretty much sleeping in our gig clothes, not washing much nor changing much. Our late great bass player Paul Raven had this weird leisure suit that he pretty much lived in. Somewhere down the line the crotch ripped out of the trousers. Raven could care less. With the lack of laundry access and hygiene in general we all pretty much bypassed underwear. So we start our set and I notice a few girls situated directly under Raven pointing upwards and giggling. I'm trying to sing and play and I'm watching these girls laughing at Raven's cock and balls hanging over their heads. We had to stop the show because I couldn't concentrate. I told Raven to move back a bit. He got mad at me.
The show continued and people were going crazy. It was a great crowd. I was leaning over the crowd, singing playing, interacting with the crowd. Suddenly I was interrupted again by a chain smacking into my guitar. I was wearing a chain wallet, I knew that, but this was all chain. I reached back into my rear pocket: no wallet! I was pick pocketed right on stage. I stopped the show and yelled "Somebody stole my wallet!!" I was freaking out, but the show had to go on. I did notice some scuffle by the door, but I continued the set rather upset. There was money, ID, credit cards, etc. in the wallet. Lost now at the Whiskey.
We were loading out and two dudes sweating, panting, approached me declaring they got my wallet while handing it over! They were upstairs, saw the dude who nabbed it. They ran out of the club and chased him down all the way to La Cienega where they jumped him and got it back. They missed the rest of the set but said it was worth it being loyal fans. Every once in awhile I run in to one of the dudes on the Strip and buy him a drink, telling everyone "This is guy who retrieved my wallet ..stolen on stage!!"
Years later Prong is still doing it. We just finished recording and mixing our new LP entitled "Carved Into Stone" on SPV Longbranch records out April 24. Maybe not the Whiskey but see you live soon!
You can get your own taste of Prong insanity live, as the band has already confirmed upcoming 2012 tour dates for February and March. Find a list of the currently announced shows here, and be sure to check back next Tuesday for more Pit Stories.

In October of last year, Swedish death metal veterans UNCANNY entered the studio to record two new songs for a 7" to be released in late January through Dark Descent Records. The first of these songs, "The Path of Flesh." is now streaming online in the form of YouTube upload below. These two tracks are the first new material from Uncanny since 1994's "Splenium for Nyktophobia" album.
Guitar prodigy Jeff Loomis has locked himself in the studio for the past few months perfecting his sophomore solo record, to be released later this year. After his departure from Nevermore and the release of his solo debut -- "Zero Order Phase" in 2008 -- fans have been craving a new album.
With a number of influential musicians appearing on the upcoming release, Jeff Loomis is more than ready to deliver. Details on two NAMM appearances have also been announced. Jeff Loomis comments:
"A couple of years ago I achieved my childhood dream of releasing a solo album. With the releasing of my second record coming up, I'm proud to announce another dream come true...or should I say dreams...Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine and Chris Poland have all done guest solos for it. These guys must have given me hundreds of blisters on my fingers when I was a kid trying in vain to emulate their work. Hell, I'm still trying to figure out some of their solos. To have three guitar players that I looked up to as a young player and still hold in such high regard is simply amazing. I can't thank those guys enough.
"In other news, I'll be down in Southern CA next week for this year's NAMM show. I have two new Schecter models that I'll be showing and I'll be doing a signing Saturday, the 21st, at their booth at 1pm as well as another one later that day with Engl Amps at 5. Also, I just confirmed a full US tour for April. I can't wait to get back out on the road again. More details on that soon."

"Vivus!" is set for a February 28th North American release date, March 2nd in the Benelux / Germany, and March 5th in the UK and rest of Europe. "Vivus!" follows the recent Relapse Records re-issues of "Individual Though Patterns," "The Sound of Perseverance," and "Human."
Like those reissues, this collection will contain extensive liner notes from previous members and never-before-seen photos of the band. Pre-order options, including a new line of exclusive Death merch and additional release information can be found here.

The album features several guests such as Jeff Loomis, Mattias Eklundh, Glen Drover, Daniele Gottardo and Derek Taylor. Stéphan Forté will also be appearing at this year's NAMM convention in Los Angeles, CA. Check out an upload for the song "De Praestigiis Daemonum" from the new one.
Finnish death / doom bringers Hooded Menace have entered the studio to record their new album and first for Relapse Records. The new record, entitled "Effigies of Evil," is being self-recorded by the band at its very own Horrisound Studios, the group’s personal compound of stench and decay.
Drums are being tracked at SF Sound and the band plans to complete recording in mid February for a Summer 2012 release.
Hooded Menace, which takes influence from 80’s era Candlemass, Cathedral, Paradise Lost, Asphyx, and Black Sabbath, has previously release two full length albums as well as split releases with Coffins, Asphyx, Ilsa, and more.
Hooded Menace guitarist Lasse Pyykko commented on the new recordings: "This album is the catchiest stuff we’ve done so far. On average it’s slightly faster (read: more mid-tempos) and a bit more melodic than the previous records but as always there’s still an unhealthy dose of down-tempo horror hammering. It’s crushingly heavy, dark and graceful music in all its gory glory!"
German power metal legends Primal Fear are releasing their latest album "Unbreakable" (reviewed here) on January 24th in North America via Frontiers Records. Noisecreep is now hosting an exclusive stream of the song "Bad Guys Wear Black" here.

"Unbreakable" was produced by Mat Sinner, engineered and mixed by Achim Koehler at the House Of Music studios and more studios in Germany and Sweden between the summer and autumn of 2011.

Demonical has issued the following statement about the band's recently canceled tour dates:
"We want to thank all the people who came to our six shows last week, it was an awesome ride and some very memorable gigs! Unfortunately the last three shows of the tour were cancelled and we wish to explain why this happened.
"The first sign of trouble came after the 4th show when the booker/tour manager Thomas 'Buddha' Bodenschalz of Heretic Visions Productions (who organized the tour) didn't give us the agreed fee. However, we didn't pay too much attention to this at that point as we had some other post-show priorities.
"The day after, before the gig in Milano, we got informed that the busdriver/owner hadn't got paid as agreed - apparently he was supposed to receive a daily fee during the tour - and then we instantly realized that the entire tour was in deep trouble. If the driver wouldn't get paid he would stop the bus in Mannheim and that 6th gig would be the last of the tour.
"Right away we called for an urgent crisis meeting with Thomas and it turned out that he hadn't made any budget for the tour nor had he kept any books regarding incomes and costs. During the meeting we tried to sort out what kind of costs and incomes there had been and in the end it turned out that a rather significant amount of cash was simply missing. Thomas had no clue where the money had gone, but even more worrying, he didn't have any financial nor logistical back-up plan how to solve the situation.
"The only explanation he came up with was that the money must have been stolen (which later on turned out not to be true, the money was simply gone due to lousy planning, misjudgements and the lack of a basic economical plan).
"Since Mr Bodenschalz had some experience from booking tours we expected him to be on top of things but we realized quite fast this was not the case. 6 PM the following day was set as deadline, by then Thomas had to find the missing money in order to keep the nightliner rolling and that way secure the remaining tour. However, we had already realized that the chances for the tour to continue as planned were rather slim, Heretic Visions seemed simply bankrupt. More...

It may come easy for most to be sad, moody depressive and otherwise despondent in one’s daily life. Just through dealing with the world’s daily negativity or living through the death of loved ones and friends, it is easy to see how the road to sadness is a slippery one to travel. It is a whole other thing to tap sadness and despair so perfectly through music that it alters the listener’s emotional state. Now try to accomplish that essentially on your own. Welcome to the world of Ed Warby.
Warby, who is best known for his drum work with Gorefest and Hail of Bullets, caught up with Metal Underground to discuss the making of The 11th Hour’s “Lacrima Mortis,” which stands toe to toe with the greatest doom metal masterpieces of all time. With The 11th Hour set to unleash its tears of anguish onto a world already filled with so much despair, we learn that Warby is more than just a mere drummer. He is a one man band. Unlike other one man projects, with something not quite right with at least one of the instruments, Warby is a perfectionist who will work until “the 11th hour” to dazzle and stun the world to prove he is an aficionado of doom. New Orleans supergroup Down has revealed the tracklisting (in not particular order) for the forthcoming, as-yet untitled EP, which presently has no release date. Speaking about the songs and the EP, lead vocalist Phil Anselmo (formerly of Pantera and Superjoint Ritual) stated:
"Interesting. Before I say anything, I will say this. On this — and in the past — I write to basically give an outline and let the listener garner for themselves how they want to apply their own rules and regulations to the track. For me, I find one of the biggest realities of life is that no two men, no two cultures, no two belief systems are really the same. There's a lot lyrically where I'm kind of at odds with mankind's relationship with mankind. . . I guess it's more simple to say than ever doing it, such is history, but these days instead of ruffling feathers, I much prefer… put it this way, I'd rather have friends than enemies, any day.
"It's easy to make an enemy. It's easy to be negative. It's very easy to slip into that, but it's very tough to come with love. All you have to do is open up a newspaper and you can see for yourself, man. Right here in my own city, people are killed every day. Me, as a person, there's no way I could sleep at night if I'd done any of those things. It makes me wonder: what the fuck are those people thinking? There is this thug worship that has led a lot of promising youngsters down a terrible path, a sometimes-irreverisble path. You take somebody's life, as an adult, you're 16 years old and you're fucked. I guess when I sat down to write this record, that's where my head was at."
The tracklisting is as follows:
The Misfortune Teller
The Curse Is A Lie
This Work Is Timeless
