Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of Portland, OR riff worshippers Lord Dying. The label comments:
"Formed in 2010, Lord Dying (E. Olson-guitar/vocals, D. Capuano-bass, J. Reid-drums/vocals & C. Evans-guitar) are veterans of the heavy music scene, having played in bands such as Black Elk, Portals, Le Force, and Cremains. The band has so far released a sold out 7” and a sold self-titled tour EP. The song 'In a Frightful State of Gnawed Dismemberment' from both releases can be heard via their official bandcamp page here.

"Lord Dying has built up a reputation with their ear-shattering live shows, having recently trekked across the US with label-mates Red Fang and Black Tusk in addition to being direct support for Black Cobra, Witch Mountain, and Gaza. Now they will be hitting the road for a string of shows with Down and Warbeast starting on Jan 22 in Seattle, WA. A complete listing of dates is listed below." More...
On January 21st in Europe and January 22nd in North America, Canadian progressive metal pioneers Voivod will release their 13th studio album, "Target Earth." The album is among Metalundergroun.com's most anticipated of the year, and now the full release is available online.
To hear the album in its entirety, head over to Loudwire.com right here. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Recorded at producer Pierre Rémillard's Wild Studios in Quebec and mixed by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Nachtmystium), Target Earth features artwork by drummer Away (Michel Langevin), who used color schemes from each one of the band's previous albums to make this new masterpiece. The album brings back original bass player, Blacky (Jean Yves Thériault), marking his first recordings with the band since 1991's Angel Rat. It's also the first to feature guitarist Chewy (Daniel Mongrain), who cut his teeth playing guitar to the late Piggy's (Denis D'Amour) riffs, and thus has matched his style to a tee. Voivod, as a full group, hadn't sat down to write a record together since 2003's self-titled album. The end result harkens back to the group's late 80s output and after 30 years together as a band, one of their best yet."
The album's track listing is as follows:
1. Target Earth
2. Kluskap O'Kom
3. Empathy for the Enemy
4. Mechanical Mind
8. Corps Étranger

Victory Records is proud to welcome Terror to the Victory family. The band will release a sixth studio album titled "Live By The Code" in April, 2013 in the U.S. and Canada. Terror vocalist Scott Vogel comments:
“When I was in high school, I would go to ‘Home of the Hits Records’ in Buffalo, NY and every week I would check for new Victory releases. Growing up, Victory Records always had the best hardcore bands, period. They had this awesome packaging and vibe that I loved. Integrity, Strife, Bloodlet, Earth Crisis - it was a fucking amazing time for hardcore. Later, I met Tony when he came to Buffalo to see Snapcase.
"We stayed in contact and made plans for my second band Despair, but soon after we broke up. Victory and my band Buried Alive worked together for years. They also had Hatebreed, Blood For Blood, All Out War, and Reach The Sky, all bands I’ve always respected and held in the highest regard. This summer I hung out with Tony and we had a wild night in Chicago. We talked about the good and bad of hardcore today and just had a blast. No business talk, no nonsense. We were under contract at the time so there wasn't even room for it.
"As we got ready to release Live By The Code, Terror and Century Media debated on how to release the record right and Victory Records seemed like the best fit. Tony and I are both insane. We both come from the same place. We both scratch and fight to stay afloat. We still believe in the essence of hardcore and still love Warzone. This is pretty fucking exciting.” More...

The Atlas Moth recently embarked on a North American tour with Gojira and Devin Townsend, but bad news has arrived for Canadian fans. The band issued the following statement about being denied entry into the country:
"Unfortunately, the Canadian border is not letting us in. We will meet up with the tour again in Seattle. This is out of our control and we apologize to anyone That was coming out to these shows to see us. This DOES NOT necessarily reflect what will be happening for our Toronto & Montreal dates in Feb. as of now the only dates affected are the Saskatoon/Calgary/Vancouver."
Joel Grind’s "The YELLOWGOAT Sessions" full-length is now available on iTunes, Bandcamp, and Nimbits with Spotify, Amazon, MOG, and more soon to follow. You can now stream the release in the player below.
Recorded as a Toxic Holocaust return-to-form of sorts (think the Critical Mass demo), "The YELLOWGOAT Sessions" features 10- tracks of raw, abrasive fuzzed out rock/metal/punk a la early Bathory and Motörhead. Comments Grind: “If you are looking for over produced shit that passes as Metal today this is NOT for you.”
Like first single "Cross Damnation," the album is now available as a "name your own price" release right here with a suggested donation of $5 allowing fans to pay whatever they feel like paying… or pay nothing at all.
Grind elaborates: “Making a recording is far from free; your donation of any size goes toward supporting an independent artist and allows projects like this to continue. In my opinion, music being released direct from the artist to the fan with no middle men is the future. With your support of this project as well as similar ones from other artists, I think we can make a serious change in the way the music ‘biz’ is run.” More...
Humorcore act Psychostick is proud to share the band's latest creation "Dogs Like Socks," which was inspired by the band's moral support: the Siberian husky duo of Elphie and Mishka. Check out the video below.
Guitarist Josh "The J" Key comments: "This song answers the question, 'Can you make something cute BRUTAL?' We just did this for fun. We have a recording studio, we had inspiration, so why not? Those dogs are the best... this is our tribute to them."
After completing the "Santa's An Asshole Tour" this past November/ December, Psychostick is now gearing up for a next tour in March with dates soon to be announced in support of latest release "Space Vampires VS Zombie Dinosaurs in 3-D." You can stream the full release via Bandcamp here. More...
One of the most defining moments in my musical development was back in 2004 when Yahoo Launch saw that I liked listening to Unearth, Fear Factory, and Lamb of God and thought that I might enjoy My Chemical Romance's “I'm Not Okay.” That single moment of revulsion caused me to look for music on my own terms after seeing how some corny and cheesy pop-rock could somehow be marketed towards metalheads. Today, we see a number of bands that try to look and act like they're part of the metal scene through their image (and the bands they tour with), but have a sound rooted more in traditional rock and roll than anything spawned by Sabbath.
First off, I'm not here to debate the merits of bands like Ghost and Ancient VVisdom. The debate over artistic integrity isn't at all relevant here. Instead, this is about is marketing and claiming bands that in no way sound “metal” are still technically considered part of the metal scene. Personally, I do like some occult rock as I've long been a fan of Current 93 and I've done my fair share of listening to Coven. That said, I'd never call Current 93 a metal band nor would I want the group touring with Cannibal Corpse. Variety between acts belongs to big music festivals like Bonaroo and Lollapalooza, and not to small club shows. More...

U.K. act Dark Forest has issued the following announcement about upcoming activity and recruiting a new guitarist:
"Over the last couple of months things may have seemed quiet in the Dark Forest camp but under the surface there has been a lot going on! Firstly, we have been busily engaged in the writing and rehearsing of a new album which will be released some point later this year.
"Secondly, it is our painful duty to announce that James Lees has left the band. He decided to call it a day, saying that he feels his time in the band has run its course and he wants to explore and concentrate on other areas in his life. We respect his decision and would like to thank Jim for his huge contribution in making Dark Forest what it is and for all the fun we’ve had over the last ten years!
"Thirdly, we have been extremely fortunate in finding a new guitarist who is, we all agree, the only person who could possibly have replaced Jim.
"So it is our delight to announce that Patrick Jenkins is officially on board with us as second lead guitarist. Pat has been our friend for many years and has supported the band since the early days. His guitar skills have blown us away, his sense of melody and song writing are completely akin to Dark Forest and as Jim mentioned, he has been playing guitar with Christian in their folk project Grene Knyght for a number of years so he was always the perfect choice to fill Jims shoes. Hailing from the north of Holland from the city of Hoogeveen, Icons of Brutality is the newest member of the Cyclone Empire family. The group describes its style as old school death metal influenced by bands such as Bolt Thrower, Vader, Dismember, or Gorefest.
The band's debut album "Between Glory And Despair" is due out on the 22nd of February. Cyclone Empire also commented on the band's history:
"The story of these Dutch metal-veterans started in the autumn of 2009 when four musicians formed an alliance in order to play their favourite style of old school death metal. Their plan to play this brutal, heavy and deadly kind of music, resulted in a foetal version of what nowadays is the ultimate war-machine called Icons of Brutality.
"A few months later the drummer decided to leave the band and the line-up had to be changed dramatically. But however.....within a month after this withdrawal, Icons of Brutality was completed again. With the arrival of two new members, the band was fully operational and finally able to really work on their definition of death metal. More...

"In 2008 came the band’s first full-length album ('Destiny’s Path') which was again greatly received by fans and media while at the same time it laid strong foundations for a solid bond between band members as friends and as musicians.
"The forthcoming new album, 'The Yonder Answer' is the result of an intensive collaborative effort between all band members the result of which is an album full of melody and passion and pure epic heaviness!" More...

“A travelling salesman, marked by a hard life, wanders lost in his thoughts over the high passes of the Black Forest,” the band comments. “Despite all, he follows his path without hesitation through harsh landscapes and yet the mountains stand proudly and the epic scenery might even be called romantic. This cover reflects all the emotions, impressions and facets of Imperium Dekadenz. It is an imperial Black Forest symphony!” More...
Warsaw, Poland's grindcore squad Antigama this week entered the studio to record a sixth full-length album, the follow-up to 2009's "Warning" as well as last year’s "Stop The Chaos" EP.

Reign Supreme has premiered a lyric video for "The Hopelessly Devoted," which will appear on the band's upcoming EP "Sky Burial" (in stores March 19th through Mediaskare Records). Check out the clip below.
The 7-track EP, which was produced by Will Putney (Stray From The Path, Hundredth), features guest appearances by Scott Wade of Comeback Kid, Chris Colohan of Cursed/Burning Love, and Mike Moynihan/Steve Muscemi of Hollow Earth.
“Sky Burial comes from the Tibetan tradition of bringing the dead to a mountain, or other place where vultures gather. The vultures and other animals consume the corpse, and hence, it becomes a vessel to feed and care for these creatures,” explained vocalist Jay Pepito on the title for the EP. “It's a cool idea, wherein your empty shell of a person becomes of some utility to some other thing, and I just found the idea of that fascinating; it makes more sense to me than embalming the dead in an attempt to preserve some self-imposed idea of what they were like in life, and then tossing that homemade mannequin into a pine box, and letting it rot. It seems to me to be more pragmatic, to let yourself be the thing that sustains your ecosystem. It reminds us that we are just animals, that we are not special because of our smart cars and Facebook, and that we, in a sense, are simply carrion.” More...

Candlelight Records proudly announces the worldwide signing of Earth Crisis. The Syracuse-based band, featuring vocalist Karl Buechner, guitarists Scott Crouse and Erick Edwards, bassist Ian Edwards, and drummer Dennis Merrick, is currently writing and demoing material for a ninth studio album. Recording is expected to begin in June. Candlelight also comments on the band:
"No hardcore or metal fan can be unaware of Earth Crisis or the contributions the band has made to heavy music since their founding in 1989. Championing the weak and the voiceless, the band has over 200,000 catalogue sales to date, according to Nielsen Soundscan. Regardless of passing trends, the five-piece has maintained their vision, dedication to their craft (and causes), and most importantly respected their fans in the 20-plus years of their performing career. In 2013, the band embarks on a new chapter delivering mission music as only they can."
Guitarist Scott Crouse says, “We are excited to be working on a new album, and equally as excited to be working on it with Candlelight. Their roster speaks for itself. It's an honor to be alongside bands like Fear Factory, Corrosion of Conformity, and our old friends in Vision of Disorder.” More...
Italian act Betoken has checked in with the following statement about the themes of the band's new album:
"Daniele Bellomi and Giulio Mauri here. We're the ones responsible for the thing we call 'concept' writing for the upcoming Betoken 'Beyond Redemption' album.
"Our muse and inspiration was Christopher Marlowe's 'The tragic history of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus,' a play from XVII century. We read it, liked it, and decided to adopt it for Betoken.
"We kept the original narration, adding a few twists here and there, to suit our needs and philosophical vision. It was our great pleasure to work with Betoken – and much to the pleasure of our favorite pub, we often visited to 'drench' our thoughts – hope you enjoy the ride as much as we did.
"Happy New Year, folks!"
Danish metal band Volbeat has revealed the band is in the studio recording a new album for release in Spring, 2013. Titled Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, the sessions are being produced by Rob Caggiano, alongside Jacob Hansen, who has a long history with Volbeat having produced and mixed the band's prior four releases. Caggiano's producer credits include The Damned Things, Bleeding Through and Anthrax amongst others. "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" will be released this spring on Vertigo / Republic Records.
Front man Michael Poulsen reveals; “We’re back in the studio, this time breaking some of our old habits and this sometimes means leaving our comfort zone. We are recording in a new environment, producing with a new set up breaking new sonic ground and it’s exciting! Together with our long time collaborator Jacob Hansen we also have the honor of having producer Rob Caggiano on board in the producer’s seat. Expect lots of surprises and some of our most rocking heavy songs to date. We feel more than ever that we are taking the Volbeat sound to another level without changing what we’re all about. Can’t wait for it to get out there!”

American progressive thrash metal veterans Toxik have announced that they are reuniting for the second time in their career. The reformation will feature original members Josh Christian and Mike Sanders, as well as former bass player, Brian Bonini, although they are currently searching for a drummer due to the refusal of Tad Leger to take part. A statement from the band reads as follows:
"I've been writing this crazy heavy stuff for the last year. In 2007 when we got together, the absence of new material made the reunion feel more like jam sessions. This time around it’s based like it was originally on a collection of songs with a Vibe. The plan is: record and perform."
Christian added: "Tad is on the verge of something killer with his doom project/band Lucertola. It’s his baby as he writes the material and plays guitar essentially leading the band. We had planned on finishing the Lucertola disc together and then beginning work on a Toxik disc, at least that was discussed; the reality is he can't walk away from his art, and I totally respect that decision, we all do. I'm still hoping Tad shows up on at least one track but either way best of luck to my brother Tad Leger and Lucertola."
