Lita Ford has signed a worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer and her new album entitled "Living Like A Runaway" is tentatively set for a May 2012 release.
Best known for her work with The Runaways and her solo career, featuring hit singles "Kiss Me Deadly" and the Billboard charting duet "Close My Eyes Forever" with Ozzy Osbourne, Lita is ready to make a return to the throne. "SPV gets who I am, my work, and what it takes to bring this project to life. I'm very excited to have them on my team," says Lita.
She also spoke about her work with Gary Hoey on the album and the meaning of the album's title: "Gary Hoey and I wanted to approach this record by getting back to basics. We want to strip away all the electronics and plug-ins and keep it to vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Going back to basics is going back to what punk, metal and The Runways was for me. 'Living Like A Runaway' means freedom and empowerment. To do what I want and to pursue my dreams while answering to no one."
SPV A&R Representative/Product Manager Olly Hahn commented on the signing: "When I bought "Dancin`On The Edge" back in 1984 I never thought that I would ever sign Lita Ford to a label. But a dream of mine came true and it`s a huge honor for us at SPV/Steamhammer to have one of the leading women in Rock n`Roll on our label."
Following the release of Earth's "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light I" -- released by Southern Lord in February 2011 -- the public's first chance to hear a number from the 2nd installment of the series has now arrived.
While conceived in the same sessions as the first installment, recorded by Stuart Hallerman at Avast and mastered by Mell Detmer, "Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light II" invokes even more improvisational and unrestrained energy than its predecessor.
Traces of this progression are evident in the track "His Teeth Did Brightly Shine" -- the second song from the upcoming album -- as premiered worldwide by Spin Magazine at this location.
"Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light" will be released by Southern Lord in North America on February 14th via CD, 2xLP and digital download. More...

The band then enlisted Charlie Shaughnessy (guitar) and Blake Ferris (drums) to round out their lineup while working closely with Acle Kahney (producer, guitarist of TESSERACT, who mixed and mastered these new tracks). STEALING AXION finally had enough material to put together a full length album, entitled Moments, which will now be released through InsideOut Music in 2012!"

Metal Blade has now launched a landing page that includes pre-order links as well as the brand new song "Deathchain." Surf over here to check it out.
Comments the band: "After three years we are back at the front with our new album MASK OF MALICE that features 10 death metal grenades! We are honored to present our new guitarist and songwriter Kensington who is responsible for most of the killer riffs on this album. MASK OF MALICE is our darkest record to date concerning both the music and the lyrics. Our main interest was to reflect the nature of human malice in our recent music which express in straight forward up-tempo smashers and pounding mid tempo songs. We are grateful for everyone who was involved in this recording of this album!"

A friend of mine often refers to heavy metal and hardcore as "children's music." (No, not this kind of children's music). Today, I am going to grudgingly give him some ammunition for his snobbery, as Unearthing The Metal Underground takes a look at two bands who exhibit extraordinary talent and enthusiasm for playing metal, despite being younger than probably every member of this website.
Gauchos de Acero (Los Gauchos)
Some readers here may remember Gauchos de Acero, as they became something of an internet sensation among heavy metal fans in 2007 when videos of three young boys from Argentina were posted by their father, showing them covering the likes of Slipknot, Pantera and fellow South Americans, Sepultura. Although known as Los Gauchos, the duo did not originally have a name, Los Gauchos being a moniker assigned to them by YouTube users, owing to their user name, "gauchosalta." Not only did they become a hit on the internet, but they also attracted the attention of Argentinean promoters, not least when they were booked to perform at Cosquin Rock 2007, an open air festival which packed in over 20,000 spectators. They were even noticed by the Argentinean government, who supplied them with sound equipment!

Acyl has released a promo teaser video for it's new album "Algebra," which is due out on January 30th on M&O Music. Acyl also has an excerpt from it's new song "Head On Crash" over on the band's Facebook wall. Acyl, a French band whose name means "genuine" in Arabic, is a band that derives much of it's musical influence from across the Mediterranean in Northern Africa. The basis of it's musical and graphic creations evolves around cultures, rhythms and sounds of the Maghreb's Arab-Berber, in particular merging metal with those of the Algerian Sahara melodies. Check out more music from Acyl's previous release, "The Angel's Sin," over on the band's MySpace page.

America's reigning kings of brutality, Cannibal Corpse, will unleash their twelfth studio offering this March via Metal Blade Records. Aptly titled "Torture," the follow-up to 2009's "Evisceration Plague" offers up 12 tracks of "maniacally precise, soul-searing death metal."
"Torture" was again produced by Hate Eternal's Erik Rutan at his own Mana Recording Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida as well as Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, and features the maniacal cover art by longtime Cannibal Corpse artist, Vincent Locke, viewable here.
While "Torture" marks the latest progression in the band's sound, it also witnesses a return to what drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz accurately terms "the frenzied attack of Butchered At Birth (1991) or Tomb Of The Mutilated (1992)," infusing the band's advanced musicianship with the raw savagery that haunted earlier releases, and in the process conceiving the definitive Cannibal Corpse record.
Adds bassist Alex Webster on the outcome of the record: "We're extremely happy with how Torture turned out. Erik Rutan did an amazing job with the production, and the songwriting and performances may be our strongest yet. We can't wait until our fans get to hear the whole thing!"

SPV/Steamhammer A&R/Product manager Olly Hahn had the following comments on the band: "Malice was always underrated. With their two albums "In The Beginning" and "License To Kill" they created timeless US Metal and it´s time to let all the younger fans know about this and show the older fans that Malice is still capable to write songs in the name of metal. I`m very happy that the band decided to be part of the growing SPV / Steamhammer family."
Former Yngwie Malmsteen/Axel Rudi Pell and current Trans-Siberian Orchestra live vocalist Jeff Scott Soto posted a new video trailer for the new solo LP "Damage Control." The album will be released on March 23, 2012 (EU) and on March 27, 2012 (North America).
Soto had the following comments on the album: “I feel Damage Control is more of a return to what my fans would expect to hear from me. It’s a perfect blend of my first two solo albums with Frontiers Records; Prism and Lost in the Translation, but also mixes in some of my favorite moments of my past bands such as Talisman and Soul SirkUS. It is heavy, AOR, hard rock with loads of great riffs and melodies.”
“Damage Control” was recorded in the fall of 2011 and was co-written with former and current band mates together with many guests including Jamie Borger and Nalley Påhlsson (Treat), Casey Grillo (Kamelot), Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger) and Y&T founding member/guitarist/vocalist Dave Meniketti.
Jeff commented on how the appearance of Meniketti came about: “Y&T drummer Mike Vanderhule played drums on a track and suggested I bring Dave on but, as he is a long time friend and one on the ‘wish list’ of people I would have loved to have, I didn’t want to get an excuse that he was too busy or not interested, to my surprise I got neither... he was willing to do it and I was not only grateful but beyond pleased to work with another musical hero!”

Finnish power metal band Celesty has announced that the band will take an undisclosed indefinite hiatus. In 2011, the band was working on its fifth release and follow up to the well received 2009 release "Vendetta." The following announcement appeared on the band's official website:
"Dear Celesty Fans
"We are sorry to announce that Celesty will go to indefinite hiatus. During the time, when 5th album songs have been in progress, there has been mixed feelings in the air for a longer period of time now. Situation in the band has come to the point, where only solution is to take a break. Will that break be a year or ten, we don´t know, but this is the only way to take the time that we need. This decision is mutual by all members of the band."
Cipher System posted a instructional video on how play the title track of the band's debut with Nuclear Blast Records, "Communicate The Storms," with guitarists Johan Eskilsson and Andreas Allenmark. The sophomore effort was released this past September.
