Prosthetic Records has checked in with the following announcement about an upcoming new album from Skeletonwitch:
"Who's ready for a NEW Skeletonwitch album?? Us too!! The band just announced they will be recording their fifth album in April at God City Studio with none other than Kurt Ballou (Converge, Kvelertak, Black Breath)!"
Skeletonwitch also issued the following statement: "Happy New Year! Hope everyone is off to a great start. First off, thanks to everyone who supported Skeletonwitch during this past year. We did some serious gigging in 2012, and your support on the road and of ‘Forever Abomination’ was overwhelming. We would be nowhere without you. It’s not just idle hands that do the devil’s work — we’re already deep in the process of writing a new record, which is shaping up to be quite an epic slab of metal, if we may say so ourselves. Keep an eye out for frequent updates. Drink it, smoke it, eat it!”
This new album will follow-up the band's 2011 release "Forever Abomination" (reviewed here), and further details will be announced as they become available.
It’s Monday again, which means it’s time to explore three more lesser known bands in the metal underground. Today’s exploration to the underground world features our neighbors to the north, which is home to its fair share of metal legends, from the most extreme to the most melodic. We’ve actually looked at Canadian acts several times before, specifically focusing on Toronto and the Maritimes previously, and today we’ll trek there again for three bands that cross the genre spectrum.
I suppose I should start out with a bit of disclosure: I’m not from Canada, and I’ve only been there once for a fishing trip years ago, although the border is only a few hours north of me. So unfortunately these are bands I know solely via their music and their online presence, and I haven’t had the pleasure of interacting with them in the live scene personally.
While working on the review for the new Chariots of the Gods album “Tides of War,” I got to thinking about the very solid lineup of bands from the frigid north, especially in the underground metal scene. There’s a fairly large grouping of what are essentially “second tier” bands currently active – these guys bring the metal full force, but they haven’t gotten signed with Nuclear Blast or Metal Blade or any of the larger labels focusing on heavy music. They still manage to get hooked up with PR companies to keep their presence known however, release high quality albums, and a good deal of them stay busy with touring and festival appearances.
Chariots of the Gods
Is this Ottawa act composed of thrash maniacs who are really into melodic death metal, or are they in an MDM band that can’t give up their love for Megadeth? Either way, this is pretty crushing, headbanging-mandatory stuff.
Chariots of the Gods will be officially dropping debut full-length album “Tides of War” later this month (January 29th to be precise), and the band has already released teasers that should more than pique the interest of metalheads. We recently had the opportunity to premiere the track “Unbound,” which features a guest appearance by Aleksi Sihvonen of Norther, and you can also hear the album’s title track below. For some more background on the band and info on the album’s themes, check out our recent interview here.
Virginia act Inter Arma posted a teaser clip for the band's upcoming new LP "Sky Burial," the band's sophomore release and first since signing with Relapse. The album is set to drop on March 15, 2013 (BE/NL/LUX), March 18, 2013 (UK/Europe) and March 19, 2013 (North America).

Prog metal act To-Mera has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with drummer Paul Westwood:
"As some of you may have noticed from the Classic Prog interview, we have recently parted ways with our drummer Paul Westwood - Paul decided it was time for him to pursue alternative musical avenues.
"We are grateful for all the great times & wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours! As for what this means for To-Mera, that is to be seen...we might just take a little break and concentrate on other (new?) projects for a while. Watch this space."

Poland's progressive rockers Riverside have released a music video for "Celebrity Touch," the first single off their fifth studio album "Shrine of New Generation Slaves."
"'Celebrity Touch' reflects the times we live in," says Riverside's Mariusz Duda. "I think everyone has a deep need to feel important somehow, but unfortunately, this need is rarely satisfied. Of course some people do get the chance, mostly people connected with the so-called celebrity world. This is a story about someone who satisfied this feeling a bit too much and about the band that chose to play away from the galleries with shitty works."
Directed by Mateusz Winkiel of Mania Studio, the video can be seen in the YouTube player available below. "Shrine of New Generation Slaves" will be available in North America on February 5th, 2013 via InsideOut Music.

The five piece, consisting of Oliver Sykes, Lee Malia, Matt Kean, Matt Nicholls and Jordan Fish, recorded "Sempiternal" over a three month period with super producer Terry Date (Linkin Park, Deftones, Soundgarden). South Wales hardcore quintet Continents has debuted a dark, intense music video for the title track from the forthcoming album "Idle Hands," due out January 22nd. Watch “Idle Hands” courtesy of Vevo in the player below.
Vocalist Phil Cross explains the meaning behind the lead single from the album: “It's about questioning your beliefs in God. I was brought up in Catholic surroundings. Things, situations and events happen to make you question what is preached to you over the years. The beginning of the song is about questioning what's going on around you; why would God let these things 'bad' things happen. As the song goes on, it gets darker and more aggressive because you’re not getting the answers you want.”
Continents will take to the streets beginning February 21st in Cardiff, U.K. for a four city run to celebrate the new release. The group will play the album from front to back, and details on the run are as follows:
