Season of Mist has issued the following announcement about Cynic releasing the band's "Portal" demos:
"This is some piece of news that CYNIC fans have been dying to read for years: the famous, much sought-after Portal demos will finally be released officially! 17 years after, CYNIC masterminds Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert decided to share the 10 songs they recorded as Portal with guitarist Jason Gobel, bassist Chris Kringel and female vocalist Aruna Abrams on a worldwide scale."
"I never thought this day would come," Masvidal comments. "A couple demos we'd record after 'Focus', under the name 'Portal', would develop a life of their own, and somehow become part of CYNIC's larger discography. As an artist, it's an amazingly unpredictable journey, to see these quiet labors of love, find their way, in their own time."
"The Portal Tapes" will be released on March 23rd (March 27th in North America), in strictly limited editions of 5000 digipak CDs and 1000 vinyl LPs.
The 70,000 Tons of Metal organizers have checked in with the following update about confirming Sapiency and Edguy for the floating festival:
"While 70000TONS OF METAL, The World's Biggest Floating Heavy Metal Festival is steaming at full speed course West through the Mediterranean Sea, they received news from their European Scouting Party. After passing through Frankfurt am Main, where they made friends with some new hopefuls that go by the name of SAPIENCY, they continued further East to the city of Fulda to meet the EDGUY! Having a feeling that there is still more in store for them, the Scouting Party continues moving East...
"Make no mistake, 70000TONS OF METAL is not your grandma's cruise. It's also not one of the cruises that share the ship with normal cruise guests. This is an all heavy metal cruise! Can you imagine that? A whole luxury cruise ship full of metalheads? And since there is no backstage area you will have the opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. It's like everyone has a backstage pass!"

Be patient cause we got lots of announcements coming, including a few surprises!
Also, I'm happy to announce that we've re-signed with Century Media in Europe!! Whether I've been working with CM on FIREWIND since 2005 or earlier projects since 2002, we've always had a winning team. Together we've achieved fantastic things in the band's career and the proof is the ever growing fanbase and popularity of FIREWIND. When I explained them my vision and ideas for the new album, they convinced me they're the right partner to take this to a new level! Many thanks to Leif Jensen, Antje Lange, Jens Prueter and the whole team of CM Europe!"
Century Media's European label manager, Antje Lange, added:

Norway's Leprous has checked in with the following new tour blog titled "Day 14 - Bratislava:"
"The bus couldn't stay at the venue today, so we had two options. We could either get up early when the bus stopped at the venue, or we could sleep in and take a taxi back to the venue from wherever the bus parked. Surprisingly enough, I was the only one who got up early. Well, supposedly Einar did as well, but he went straight to the city center of Bratislava, and I didn't see him at all until later.
"So, as soon as I got off the bus and into the venue, I realized it wasn't too much to do around the area. The time before soundcheck was mainly spent lying in a sofa listening to music. At one point, I tried to walk down to the city center, without knowing either the distance or the direction. Turned out I chose the right direction, but the distance and the cold made me turn pretty quickly.
"The others arrived in time for soundcheck. Turned out we made a new 'longest-soundcheck-on-tour-record.' Not our fault though. Its a weird thing to do, and we've noticed it a few places: When there's a broken cable at the venue, they just put it back in the same case as the working cables…makes no sense to me. So, at one point they tried at least five cables before they found one that that worked. And since they put all of them back in the same place, the next band playing there will go through the exact same procedure. Weird!
"Before showtime we end up being pretty frustrated. both because of the soundcheck, and because of our very, very, very small backstage.
"Luckily, the show turned out to be really cool! The crowd was great, and everybody was having a really good time on stage! Its always great to get a bad pre-show feeling proven wrong!
"Totally out of the context, here is a video of Øystein talking about guitar playing and the Norwegian language." More...

The latest in the saga of "metal made me do it" stories, this one is pretty far out there:
Christina Paz, 29, was arrested after starting a fire that seriously damaged her father's home in Cileo Vista in Texas last week and is now facing a felony charge of arson.
The El Paso Times claims that court documents show that Paz told investigators she wanted to burn down the house as revenge on her parents, who she believed were trying to kill her. On December 27 she allegedly poured flammable super glue on a bed in one room before lighting it, and then entered another room to set fire to the curtains.
The court papers report that Paz was angry at her parents "for trying to kill her on Christmas Day, that they had planned to sodomise her and chop her up with the help of a neighbour".
When asked how she knew her parents wanted to kill her, Paz replied that she had become aware "through the music of Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails."
