Fall Of The Idols also has also put out a couple of split releases with Spiritus Mortis and Forsaken a couple of years back.
Doing their part to make the world a louder and more brutal place, GunShyAssassin.com has posted a stream of the title track from Spanish metallers Infected Flesh's new and third album "Concentric Circles of Disembowelment." Visit this location to listen to the stream.
The Catalonian death grinders Infected Flesh started out in 1997, releasing the album
"Anthropophagical Devourment" a few years later and dissolving the band. Six years later, a second album was issued on Hecatombe Records. By 2010, Seth van de Loo, drummer for Dutch brutal death metal act Severe Torture, started collaborating with Infected Flesh. It was he who recorded the drums for a two track demo, and just a few weeks later the band signed a deal with the North American brutal label Comatose Music for the release of the third full length album.
There's a slew of new heavy metal bands popping up across the globe covering just about every imaginable sound, and plenty more appearing on the horizon. Thanks to easy access to digital tools and online methods of music distribution, the metal scene as a whole has an exploding population, and every year we try to keep up with the best new talent in our year-end “best of” awards.
To help get you acquainted with the best new metal out there, we’ll be briefly covering the bands nominated by our contributors for the “Best Newcomer” category of Metalunderground.com’s recent 2012 awards.
Senior reviewer Progressivity_In_All nominated the following acts for best newcomer of 2012: Beyond The Bridge, Storm Corrosion, The Great Gamble, Aoria, and Lance King. You can also find yesterday's coverage of nominees by clicking here.
Beyond the Bridge
As CROMCarl noted previously, Beyond the Bridge's debut album (reviewed here) masterfully announces their arrival in the metal universe as a prospective heavyweight. Imagine a hypothetical scenario where George Lucas arrives in Hollywood for the first time and immediately directs Star Wars as his very first film. That's about the equivalent of Beyond The Bridge releasing "The Old Man and the Spirit" as their debut. More...

The first single and title track from the 2012 album by South African hard rock/metal band Juggernaught has been made into an official video. That song, "Bring the Meat Back," is streaming below. "Bring the Meat Back" is the second album from the Pretoria band, and has been streaming in its entirety over on bandcamp.
Their first release, 2009's "Act of Goat," was well received locally, selling out its first pressing in less than two months on the heels of the lead single, "Mountain Man." Following the momentum of its debut, the band was invited to write and record a song with local music star, Mapuputsi, for the South African Broadcasting Channel's highly rated Jam Sandwhich television show, the result of which quickly became one of the highest selling singles in the show's history.
Minutia, the band which famously started a Bon Jovi death rumor that made headlines, has checked in with the following update about working on a new album and seeking a new drummer:
"Drumming auditions are coming along with some promising individuals getting behind the set.
"The, as of now, untitled debut LP has finished being recorded and is being mixed as we speak. Look for a release date to be announced in late 2013. Expect 10 songs of Minutia's best material to date... We surprised ourselves with this one."
You can also check out a video for the band's previously released song "The Cell of Self" in the YouTube clip below. More...
Fort Worth-based duo Pinkish Black has finished recording an upcoming album and Century Media debut, set tentatively for a spring release. Self-produced by the band's own Jon Teague and Daron Beck, this currently untitled full-length was recorded at The Echo Lab with Matt Barnhart handling engineer duties. Mastering will be done by James Plotkin.
To hear some new tracks from the record, fans can catch Pinkish Black live on March 7th in Denton, TX at NX35 where the duo will be direct support for EyeHateGod. Additional tour dates will also be announced soon, so stay tuned.
Pinkish Black is the continuation of The Great Tyrant, a three-piece that released one LP following the passing of bass player Tommy Atkins. When Atkins died, Teague and Beck decided to change the band's name and remain a two-piece, yet still retain TGT's sound.
With no stringed instruments, the duo now relies on aura and raw emotions to obtain a unique heaviness. The resulting effort, Pinkish Black's self-titled debut (released via Handmade Birds Records), features seven tracks of dark, haunting deathrock--and was named one of the best albums of 2012 by Brooklyn Vegan.com, Stereogum.com, and Pitchfork.com.

Austrian melodic death metal band The Last Warning has signed on with Massacre Records. The band has finished their upcoming fourth LP in December 2012, which is expected for a Spring 2013 release. It was recorded at the Music Factory/Prophecy Studios with producer and Mystic Prophecy vocalist R.D. Liapakis (Devil's Train) and sound engineer Christian Schmid.
The Last Warning was formed in 1999 and released their first demo "In Case Of Fire" in 2003. They signed with Ton 4 Records a year later, recorded their debut "Face 2 Face" and played numerous shows and festivals. Their second album "Chainbreaker" followed in 2006 and their touring extended to Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, sharing the stage with bands such as Maroon, Deadsoil and Machine Made God.
One of the band's milestones happened in the summer of 2007 when they were invited to Indonesia for a headliner tour. They played in Bali, Java and Sumatra and performed as headliner on the main stage at the Soundrenaline Festival in Padang, Sumatra, in front of more than 20,000 people. They returned to Indonesia in 2008 and played gigs in front 25,000 people in Pekanbaru and 45,000 people in Medan.
Their latest album "Elegance Of Bloodiness" was released in October 2009 via 7Hard Records.
Vocalist Hans-Jürgen Moitzi commented: "Working with Lia and Christian was awesome! Lia kicked our asses to get the best out of the band. The new album is a real thrash monster! We are also very proud to be part of the Massacre Records family now. Massacre Records is the perfect label for our upcoming album!” More...

BlackGates has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with Vocalist Dan Nelson:
"Regretfully, Dan Nelson has decided to leave Blackgates. He has stated that he wants to concentrate full time on being a father to his new born son along with focusing more on his personal training business. All of us in Blackgates understand his decision and wish him all the best. He'll always be family.
"That being said, Blackgates is moving forward and is now actively seeking a new permanent lead vocalist. Were looking for a full on metal head who can sing with some serious melodic power and edge, with a bit of gravel on the top. IF THIS IS YOU... send us your demos, links, videos to: Blackgatesvox@yahoo.com. Subject: 'VOX SEARCH' Here is a link to our three song demo. These are good examples…."
"We've got over a dozen tunes that we feel are killer, we just need the right guy to come in and put his stamp on them and take what we have even further," stated Jeremy Von Epp.
When asked, Paul Bostaph replied "New blood in the band will help push our sound further. Our newest material is heavier than our first demo. We're looking forward to working with a new vocalist, and getting out there and mixing it up in 2013."
Today Universal Music regretfully announces that due to a manufacturing plant error, the release of Rammstein’s "Videos 1995-2012" will be delayed until February, 2013. The exact new date will be announced next week.
Originally due in stores on January 15th, it was decided to delay the release as the band wanted to ensure fans receive the highest quality packaging. Fans who purchased the collection through Amazon’s pre-order will receive their DVDs in conjunction with the new release date.
The collection includes the legendary German band’s complete music video catalog along with two new videos for the song “Mein Herz Brennt,” and is available on standard DVD and Blu-ray. "Videos 1995-2012" contains over seven hours of material featuring 25 music videos, 24 behind-the-scenes clips, and a 56-page booklet.
Available on three DVDs or two Blu-rays, the collection will be released through the band’s marketing and distribution deal with Density Records in the U.S. For any further questions on the new release date or information about pre-orders, fans can contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
After splitting with guitarist Rob Caggiano, Anthrax has announced that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will step in for upcoming shows. Donais will temporarily fill in for Anthrax's upcoming tour dates in India, the series of Soundwave Festival shows in Australia, and the North American Metal Alliance Tour (dates below).
"Jon is a bro and he's also a total fucking ripper," said Scott Ian. "I've worked with him twice before on side projects and he tears it up. I'm excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. 13's gonna be a good year."
"I grew up on Anthrax, they're the thrash scene, they're one of The Big Four, I'd be crazy to not want to play with them," said Donais. "Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band, and asked if I'd be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place. Rob and I are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts, so he's being great. I also have to give special thanks to my band - Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed - who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this." More...
The Ajna Offensive has announced January 22nd as the international release date for Head of the Demon's self-titled debut album. The following press release was issued about the upcoming album:
"A mysterious Swedish entity comprising nameless members from known bands, Head of the Demon's 'Head of the Demon' is a sepulchral, doom-laden slab of occult black/death metal that's Lovecraftian in intent and aims for the abyss.
"H.P. Lovecraft is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for those who play metal, and tributes to the great visionary of Providence have been countless. Head of the Demon are ones who have seen the faces of the Great Old Ones, yet all but eschew the usual clichés based upon tentacles and unspeakable horrors. Their occult black/death metal is hypnotic and honed, played mainly on the rawness of riffs and chants that are repeated cyclically.
"Psychedelic vertigo is assured, and with it the stimulation of perceptions that open windows to mysterious parallel dimensions. The voice sounds like that of Tom Warrior mentally dissociated under acid, while the guitars constantly seek ways of expressive, original, yet oblique metal without foresaking metal altogether. The long ramblings of 'Phantasmagoria' and 'They Lie In Wait - Riding The Waste' creep ominously between proto-doom Black Sabbath-ian realms and the atmosphere of Mortuary Drape’s cenotaph, never fully enjoying one or the other. Nuclear Blast Records has checked in with the following statement about releasing a new album from Lost Society:
"17, 18, 19, 19. No, that’s not today’s lottery numbers, but the age of the band members of Finland’s most promising contemporary newcomer combo. Founded early 2010 in Jyväskylä by thrash/speed metal enthusiast Samy Elbanna, the front man gathered an ensemble of passionate allies around him to establish a band that soon should become known as the most energetic up-and-comers Scandinavia had seen in years – Lost Society!
Crafted under the aegis of famous producer Nino Laurenne (Amorphis, Ensiferum) in the prestigious Sonic Pump Studios (Finntroll, Sonata Arctica) the band’s debut entitled 'Fast Loud Death' will be released via Nuclear Blast on March 15th, 2013. Already in the first quarter, this record can doubtlessly be ranked among this year’s best releases of its genre!"
The cover artwork was designed by Ed Repka (Megadeth, Venom). Band leader Samy states: “When we heard that the one and only Ed Repka would be responsible for the album art, we were thrilled, as he created some of the most killer album covers of all times! The result looks absolutely amazing and truly captures the album’s theme - a bus full of crazy people who blew it up big time!” More...
After 14 successful years with seven studio albums, mastermind Tuomas Saukkonen has now decided to put an end to his dark/melancholic melodic death metal band Before The Dawn as well as to all of his other current projects, including Black Sun Aeon, Dawn of Solace, and Routasielu.
“I’ve already been thinking about this for a few years,” Tuomas states. “At some point I realized I was keeping the band alive without feeling right anymore. I lost the passion to make music my own way. Now that Before The Dawn is done, it’s logical for me to clean the table completely and start building something from scratch again.”
As far as his new goals are concerned, the multi-instrumentalist explains: “From now on I’ll solely focus on my new band called Wolfheart – all my attention and energy shall flow into it. My main intention is to create a band that combines Before The Dawn’s energy with the low-tuned, dark, heavy and epic atmosphere of Black Sun Aeon.”
In order to give you a first impression of what Wolfheart will sound like, Tuomas has uploaded a teaser to his official YouTube channel. Check it out below. More...

This is not a release for death metal fanatics only as we are sure that fans from many other musical styles will love this very fresh and tuneful release. Check Worstenemy out, this is not only a sonic assault…This is true passion for Death Metal and underground."
Seven Nines and Tens has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with the band's drummer/bassist:
"On a melancholy note, our longtime bassist/drummer Earl Heath has chosen to leave Sn&t. His departure is completely amicable and his enthusiasm and jaw dropping talents will be markedly absent and wholeheartedly missed from this point forward.
"We had a stellar run and just like in the case of recently departed member Riley Roukema, the door is always open on Saturdays boise. Kerry and I are still very much a band and we will keep you updated regularly."

Canadian extreme metallers Kataklysm have enlisted renowned producer/engineer Chris "Zeuss" Harris (Hatebreed, Suffocation, All That Remains), to mix and master the band's forthcoming album, tentatively due in the fall. Commented Kataklysm vocalist Maurizio Iacono:
"It's time for Kataklysm to make a change and challenge ourselves a bit more when it comes trying out new sounds. I think it's healthy to explore other avenues at this stage in our career, and Zeuss has worked with some bands we really like such as Hatebreed and Suffocation. When it comes to full-blown power and making each instrument flow together in harmony, Zeuss is one of the top producers out there. We're confident he can deliver what the band is seeking to accomplish and the sound we want on the next album."
Added Zeuss: "I have been watching and listening to Kataklysm over the years and finally our paths will meet for their new record. I look forward to a new chapter in Kataklysm history."
As previously reported, Kataklysm guitarist and longtime producer Jean-François Dagenais (Malevolent Creation, Misery Index, Ex Deo) will once again helm the new record. The band is scheduled to enter JFD studio in Montreal and Dallas in June/July.

El Paso technical metal act Triumph Over Shipwreck has begun a pre-sale campaign through crowd funding website Indiegogo for an upcoming album. The band has announced 20% of the overall sales from the new album will go to the Red Cross for disaster relief efforts. Triumph Over Shipwreck also commented:
"The pre-sale campaign enables control of how large the release will be and help the band break down the demographics. Crowd funding gives the audience equity in the product the band puts out, it also ensures the band isn’t placed in too binding of a contract with those producing and engineering the album.
"The album, Heavy Is the Head, will be released in April with tour to follow. For details on price packages, visit the Indiegogo campaign page here. Similar to recent pre-sale campaigns from acts such as The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, there are levels in which prospective buyers can participate ranging from $1 to receive credit on the album to $150 to have the band perform in your home."
