California metal act Taunted has issued the following year end update:
"Well, with everything changing in the world it's a constant battle for everyone to keep their lives positive and keep banging away to stay above water. We wish everyone a great 2010 and hope life is better for all. This being said, we must say that it was a great year for Taunted and we thank EVERYONE for staying true and supporting us. After our 'ZERO' cd we knew we had to come up with a follow up CD that was better and stronger than 'ZERO'. Hence the writing for 'BLEEDING BLACK' begin and the journey was great to say the least! Writing, recording, and all of us in the TAUNTED camp sharing new memories was quite the life experience for all of us. Once we had a hand full of songs written we begin performing some of the songs live which was satisfying to hear the progress of the songs and the fans responses were good.
"The recording at Trident studios was professional and relaxed but Juan really pushed us and we also pushed our selves trying to get the best disc we had ever done. From early responses. and reviews it seems we succeeded. Every bands hope is to make a CD that stands on its own yet reflects the over all feel of the brand of music they put out. We definitely stayed true to Taunted and also put out a different breed of CD than prior recordings. We have performed some great shows and shared the stage with some good friends again and put a stamp in the bay area scene as a band that has fun, shows a work ethic that resembles an athlete, and always knows that we are here doing what we do for all of YOU. German black metallers Membaris have issued the following update about releasing a new album:
"Black Metal has always been music for those able and willing to cross physical and emotional borders in life and beyond. With 'Grenzgänger' (which can be translated as 'wanderer among the borders') German collective Membaris now are to proclaim their new musical interpretation of this lifestyle. The follow-up of the 'Into Nevermore'-album is set to release in end of February 2010 by Articaz Records in Germany.
"This time we really wanted to know how far we can go with our vision. As we totally created this beast by our own, we were able to leave all boundaries behind that distorted our music in the past. We wanted to create something that is not easy to follow, nor to understand. We wanted to draw pictures people from the ordinary world wouldn’t enjoy to look at. The album features German and English lyrics dealing with astronomy, fatalism, the idea of eternity and the fragility of life. The record will feature an exceptional artwork done by the paintress Fina Krüger, who has contributed her own vision to each of the songs. Membaris this year celebrates their 10th year of existence. Beside one Demo and a Split record with companions WEIRD FATE, 'Grenzgänger' is the third full-length record."
Italian symphonic metal band Hortus Animae, which includes drummer GroM of Ancient, is currently offering their debut 2000 full-length album "The Melting Idols" as a free download. 6/5 2010 Azraeth Festival Weststadt/Karlsruhe

Germany's DuskMachine has issued the following update about working on a new album:
"The DuskMachine wishes all you good people out there a healthy, successful and happy new year 2010! You can also expect a new album from us, it's not clear yet when exactly, but we hope to be done with the recordings soon, then mix everything and check out interested labels. We will definitely keep you posted. As some of you might have noticed, our main website is down now for quite a while. There was absolutely no time yet to care about it for several reasons, but this will be done asap. In the meantime, please check for news and if necessary, contact us using our MySpace."
Actor Christopher Lee, who has appeared in movies such as "Lord of the Rings," "The Wicker Man," and "Star Wars," has announced he will be releasing a symphonic metal album under the title "Charlemagne." The album is focused on the story of King Charlemagne, the First Holy Roman Emperor. Samples from the album, which will be released on March 15th, 2010, can be found at this location.
The band also issued the following statement about the new album:
"The Carandinis, Lee's maternal ancestors, were given the right to bear the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Through his Carandini ancestors, Christopher Lee has a direct link to Charlemagne, and has decided for the first time in his life to pay homage to his distinguished ancestor, who is credited as 'The Father of Europe'. Charlemagne is a concept album with original words and symphonic metal music. Composer Marco Sabiu, best known for his collaborations with Kylie Minogue, Take That, Pavarotti, Morricone, has created a truly epic canvas by introducing modern metal symphonies, in a style which resembles a movie score. Marie-Claire Calvet, a graduate from Bristol University, transports the listener into 'The Dark Ages', with a very powerful storyline and mesmerising lyrics. A full orchestra, heavy metal musicians, choir and special guest vocalists bring the legend of Charlemagne to life."
Ireland's Mourning Beloveth has issued the following update about recruiting a new guitarist:
"As 2009 withers and dies on its arse, we take this opportunity to dwell on what has been a busy and rather eventful year in the world of MB. On the live front, April 09 saw us finally back on the road in Europe, the 'Milestones of Misery' tour saw us fulfill our commitment to reschedule the 11th hour postponement of 08's 'Age of Disease' tour dates. Along with our partners of alcohol induced Doom, Mournful Congregation and Longing for Dawn, this jaunt proved a great success, both in new and more familiar cities, and was the first major project since agreeing a booking deal with Lugga Music.
"Aside from this series of dates, 2009 also saw us play some special one of performances, including a special support slot to our cousins Primordial in the second of they're soon to be legendary Dublin Button Factory showcases, the eh, 'experiment' that was the Lowend festival and in October, our biggest gig yet on home soil as support to the behemoth that is Opeth, in Dublin's legendary Olympia Theater. These one off gigs also saw us renew our successful partnership with Derrick 'Murph' Murphy as our sound engineer, one that will continue into the future, whatever that may be... More...
Decrepit Birth has issued the following statement about preparing to record a new album:
"We would like to extend an end of the year thanks to all of the fans who supported Decrepit Birth over the past year. Whether you caught us live, checked out our music online, picked up our CDs or merch, or even just helped spread the word about a show -- we really appreciate the support! We have really tried to keep busy since the release of the last album, Diminishing Between Worlds; and now that we are about to enter the studio to record our 3rd album, called Polarity, we are planning a very intense touring schedule to support the new album. The band is looking to get a chance to perform in many places that we have yet to see.. as well as returning to Europe and North America for some awesome tours!! 2009 has been very good to us, and now we are proud to announce that Diminishing Between Worlds has been included in MetalReview's 'The 100 Most Essential Albums of the Decade.' We are VERY honored to be a part of this list, alongside some of the top names in metal! Thank you so much MetalReview!!
"We just got home from an amazing tour with Vader, Warbringer, The Amenta, Augury, Swashbuckle, Rose Funeral and Lazarus A.D. Thanks to every crew member and band member.. that was one hell of a kick ass tour!! With the exception of the scumbag promoter in Virginia Beach who ripped us off, eat shit... Thanks to all the fans for coming out and supporting!
"We are about to commence recording for Polarity by entering Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California to start tracking drums with producer/engineer Zack Ohren. We are very excited to get the album recorded and released! We have been performing a couple of the new songs live and the response has been awesome! So we hope you, our fans, enjoy the direction of the new material.. Which can only be described as 'death metal from the soul.' This will certainly be our most catchy material yet, although still brought to you in a brutal and progressive way that people have come to know Decrepit Birth for. This will also be the band's first release on Nuclear Blast Records.. Which we are very proud of due to their amazing reputation and professionalism. We will be bringing you video clips and updates from the band during the recording process so stay tuned! More...
Germany's Stormwarrior has issued the following update about a DVD release and working on a new album:
"Hello Everybody! Over the last weeks we have received a lot of questions about the final release date of the long-awaited live DVD package 'If It’s Not In Your Bloode – You Will Never Understand'. Due to the fact that Stormwarrior has parted company with the Dockyard 1 label, and since DY1 was also designated to handle the promotional work for the live DVD package, we had to get to terms with a further delay of the release. We hope that you will understand that we were unable to update you on this, before we had the full overview of the situation. The DVD release will now be handled by Remedy Records in its entirety, as a one-off collaboration. We have not been given a final date yet, but the release of the package that we are all eagerly waiting for will definitely happen in the beginning of 2010.
"At the present, we are very exciting about working on new material for the next studio album. We are aiming for a Spring/Early Summer 2010 release of the follow-up to 'Heading Northe.' Furthermore, we are looking at possible Stormwarrior festival appearances and suitable tours for the New Year, so rest assured: We will see you guys out on the road in 2010. Until then we would like to thank YOU for your patience and wish you a Happy New Metal Year 2010!"
Cattle Decapitation has issued the following update about searching for a bass player and planning new tour dates:
"We'll be announcing more US tour plans for April/May VERY SOON! Tour dates for Europe are already starting to sprout up online including a festival appearance at the Stonehenge Festival in Holland on July, 31st and we'll hopefully have more to report on the rest of the tour soon! We don't want to blow the whistle on it until we are completely sure this time. Things keep coming up preventing us from heading overseas and its looking like next year is looking to have much more international and overseas dates!
"Now that the year is over and holidays behind us, we'll be narrowing down the bass player search! Our current fill-in bass player Rah Davis is stepping down to go back to school and we always applaud anyone who wishes to further their education, so we wish Rah the best of luck and we thank him for his service in gore!!! There will be more news coming soon as we're still sitting on some pretty cool shit that we haven't unleashed to 'you people' yet! Stay tuned for the coming carne!!!

Texas death metallers Decrepitaph have issued the following update about recording a new album and a new song for an upcoming split album:
"We've gotten a few emails asking when things will ship, so here's a quick update.. We got the shirts in last week and they look GREAT! Everyone that ordered them will be pleased with how cool they came out. We also got the stickers in, as well as the 1" logo pins. The bonus CD which is entitled 'Mutant Terrors' has been sent to press and we should have them in less than 2 weeks. The 'Beyond The Cursed Tombs' CD will be going to press in 3-4 days as well.
"So, I would expect everything to ship approx 3 weeks from today. It may be a little more or a little less time, but around there is a safe bet. If I had to guess, everyone will have their package deals by the very beginning of February at the latest! Thanks again to everyone for making this a HUGE success. We never imagined we would get as many orders as we did! This whole package deal is for the fans and we are confident you will be happy with the final product of everything!
"In more news, the split 7" vinyls with OFFAL and ERODED (Ger) appear to be ahead of schedule! It looks like they might be out before the Spring like we originally thought. We are putting the final touches on the OFFAL split right now, and Nev is finishing up a cool cover for it! Expect a total old school throwback layout for this 7" as well as an extra primitive new and exclusive song! We are going to record another new and exclusive song for the ERODED split in 2 weeks. Damian from the great band HORRENDOUS will be handling the mixing for us on it (like he did on the OFFAL split) and we will be recording another raw and filthy track for it! More...
Vocalist Julien, formerly known as "Infestvvs," of French black metal act Glorior Belli has issued the following update about parting ways with all of the other band members:
"What's going on with the line-up FFS?! Clearly there's an issue here...After (too) many changes and (too) many mistakes from my side, I have decided to go on my own way and do what I should have done in the the very first place with Glorior Belli: A SOLO project, helped by a handful of musicians for LIVE related matters.
"I want to make sure this isn't going to 'hurt' the people we have recruited lately, as there was absolutely nothing wrong with them, besides the fact that I AM a control freak. So please note that this is on ME only. The solitary path is the only one I know and the only one that gives satisfaction at the end of the road for me. I hereby would like to send the most wishful thoughts to everyone that has been involved in GB's activities for a few hours or a few years. You know who you are!"
Glorior Belli also recently finished recording their fourth full-length album "The Full Intrepid Experience of Light," which will be released via Candlelight Records. A teaser trailer for the new album can be viewed below. More...
German hard rockers Jaded Heart have posted two songs online for streaming. The track "Blood Stained Lies" from their latest album "Perfect Insanity" can be found below, and the song "See the Light" from the 2007 album "Sinister Mind" can be found after the jump.
Finnish folk metal band Kivimetsän Druidi has issued the following update about finishing the recording of their new album:
"Hello all our friends! The past year was kind of special to us. We matured as a band quite a lot, played some awesome festival gigs - especially Rocktower in Lübeck, Ragnaroek in Lichtenfels and Metal Female Voices Fest in Wieze.
"We also reached one of our long waited goal when we had a chance to tour in North America for the very first time. Heathenfest America was awesome experience and we'd like to express our thanks to our great tour mates Eluveitie, Belphegor, Alestorm and Vreid as well as Rock The Nation and Thunderdome touring and the whole crew. A very special thank you goes to our awesome audiences - friends and fans all over the US and Canada. We really want to come back soon!
"This year 2010 will be, if possible, even more excited. We have just completed the recordings of our second album and now we are mixing it. It will be released some time in April, we hope, and it will most certainly surprise many of you! We won't reveal more now, but look out for the news. We are determined to make new announcements quite soon. More...
Belgian metallers Thurisaz have issued the following update about streaming a new song via their MySpace page:
"2009 has been a year of heights and lows for Thurisaz... First there was the departure of our bass player Lars, which was a very tough decision to make but in the end the right decision for both him and the band. We are still very grateful for all he did for Thurisaz throughout the years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours!!!
"The departure meant of course there was room for a new recruit: Hannes Leroy, a long time friend of the band. With Hannes joining, Thurisaz finally found back the energy and inspiration it was looking for since quite some time. And that paid off!!! Since a year we've started to write new material, with ups and downs, but we're nearing the final stage. Recordings will be done next spring in the CCR-studio, where we recorded our both previous albums. We've always enjoyed working with Kris from CCR, so we're very much looking forward to record there again! But... no promises yet on a release date, to avoid false hopes.
"A couple of months ago we promised a new song on our myspace. It was originally meant as a preproduction (and in a way it still is), but thanx to the efforts of Nik, our sound engineer, it has turned out great! Granted, it has took us a little longer as foreseen, but here is 'Precious Scars' as a new years present from Thurisaz to the fans and to everyone who supported us throughout the years! Enjoy!!!"
Norwegian death metal act Zeenon, which includes drummer Mads Guldbekkhei of Pantheon I, has issued the following brief update about their lack of activity over the last two years:
"Zeenon has not been active the past two years, due to the girls having a bunch of kids! Mads is busy with Pantheon I and many other cool bands! It is unsure whether Zeenon will rise again, but meanwhile you can listen to our music online or keep in touch"
Two sample Zeenon tracks titled "Welcome To The Conic Section" and "Arbor Vitae" are currently available for streaming at the band's MySpace page.
Brazilian symphonic metallers Lords of Aesir have announced they are currently working on a new as-yet-untitled album which will be completed in January 2010. The songs "Unpredictable Certainty" and "The Voice Beyond" can be heard at the Lords of Aesir MySpace page.
Young British thrash metal outfit Seregon has posted a lengthy blog online which looks at the how 2009 went for the band and what the future holds for them. An excerpt from the blog reads as follows:
"It's a new year and this is the first blog i've ever written. I hope to use this to write some big updates etc. or to recap on things that we have done or doing e.g. when on tour and all that!
"So yeah, 2009. It all went a bit quick I thought but the 1st of January 2009 seem's such a long time ago. For the band it has been a very succesful year in my eyes, some of the things we have accomplished this year has been jaw dropping at times. This time last year I would never of thought that we would of been playing shows in and out of the UK with some bands that have been hugely influential for us for the best part of 10+ years."
