ARCH ENEMY Guitarist Michael Amott has issued the following year-end update:
"2007 was another busy year for us: it pretty much started with a bang, with us touring in South America - which was completely mind blowing! Unforgettable. And then my brother Christopher Amott re-joined the band, which was a huge deal for us - and for a lot of our fans too!
In the spring of 2007 we recorded the Rise Of The Tyrant album. We did promotion over the summer (spent a fantastic week in Tokyo among other things), played a couple of European fests and then packed our bags and headed out on tour - our longest one ever. Rise Of The Tyrant was released in September and is the most well received record we've released so far, very cool.
We enjoyed the three-five month trip around the world (four continents) where we played to a large number of people - a lot of familiar faces and a ton of new ones! Most of the touring we did in 2007 was together with MACHINE HEAD, which at first seemed ironic - but worked out very well, we consider them good friends now!
We did a few headline shows along the way too, something very cool was playing for the first time in China and Greece. Crazy metal fans there that made us feel very welcome, we'll be back again! Doing headline shows at the amazing Loud Park festivals Japan was also a special event for us, killer!
We'd like to thank our road crew for making everything work and sound good on the 2007 leg of the World Tyranny madness! You guys rock!
Also a big thank you to all our business partners, record labels and endorsers, management team, fan club people, and the great Arch Enemy webmistresses! You are all amazing in your own way and your hard work makes this all possible.
To our fans: Thank you for the great support in 2007! We look forward to playing for you and meeting you in 2008! Let the Tyranny continue!
As for 2008, we have some very cool stuff coming up!
We have already confirmed a co-headline Japan tour, which we have dubbed Tyrants Of The Rising Sun and UK run together with our friends OPETH. I am looking forward to hanging out with Fredrik Åkesson again! We will be announcing US and European dates very soon, hang in there!
As things stand right now, Arch Enemy will be playing almost exclusively headline performances in 2008, which enables us to play longer sets and stretch out a little, looking forward to that!
We also have some very exciting new online stuff happening soon. An official US fan club and also an official Arch Enemy eBay store that'll be full of cool and unique Arch Enemy related items - all autographed. More on this very soon.
Right now we are enjoying some downtime at home, but I will getting ready to go to NAMM in California soon - some very awesome Michael Amott signature products to be unveiled there with ESP Guitars and
See you soon! Let's have another great Metal year!"

We are gonna play songs we have never played live, for sure, so until we see ya in February, we are gonna be in the lab trying to cook up these jams that have never seen the light of day. BLACK LIGHT BURNS, the band led by former LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland, has commenced work on material for its second album, tentatively due in early 2009.
Commented Borland, "The new BLACK LIGHT BURNS is a lot more guitar-heavy than it is synth-heavy. More riffs and slightly heavier and upbeat for the most part. The feeling tone is a little more fun and weird compared to the darkness of the first album."
He added, "I'm pretty much always writing, so I think [BLACK LIGHT BURNS' debut album, 2007's 'Cruel Melody'] is basically just a snapshot of a single period of time and what I was going through during that time. The album which is being written now picks up where' Mesopotamia' (the last song that was written for 'Cruel Melody'), left off. The new record is at this point about 11 songs which are all in progress, but close to being finished."
"Cruel Melody" was released in June 2007 via producer Ross Robinson's new label I Am: Wolfpack.

San Francisco melodic death metallers, Sol Asunder, issue the following update regarding their upcoming album on their Myspace page:
"MECHANIZE is a concept album built on themes of technology fused with life. The songs all differ from each other, yet conduct an unremitting style of rhythm and melody. As the songs were written, a shape became more evident to the style and we ran with it."
"Lyrics for this album became a concept of assimilating machinery and nature. Each song is its' own examination of this convergence. The song, "Demodulated" [listen here], suggests words of warning from a stagnant voice only heard encoded within a broken radio signal. The themes are programmed throughout the album, yet left illusive and dormant for the listener to conclude. "
"The album has a list of twelve tracks at least so far. Updates are on the way so keep posted, but for now we hope you enjoy "Demodulated!""

Dani Filth recently recorded vocals for the theme song to Dario Argento's latest horror/suspense opus "Mother of Tears: The Third Mother". The song, entitled "(She's) The Mother of Tears" was composed by Claudio Simonetti. Simonetti, a veritable legend among horror film scores, is also noted for penning music to such classics as "Dawn of the Dead", "Suspiria", "Phenomena" and several episodes of the popular series "Masters of Horror". Los Angeles-based hard rock band MY RUIN has released the video for its new song "Religiosity". The track comes off the group's new album, "Throat Full of Heart", due in January 2008 via the band's own imprint label Rovena Recordings in association with Cargo Records UK. The CD was co-produced by MY RUIN guitarist Mick Murphy and Duane Burda.
Nasty and Sinister, two guerrilla-style female filmakers from England (who shot and directed the MY RUIN video "Spilling Open" while travelling with the band and documenting their Brutal Language UK tour in early 2006) created the new video for "Religiosity" for the group's DVD, which is featured in the album's digipack edition. "We wanted this video to be totally different than our last one so we asked Nasty and Sinister, who have also created videos for our spoken-word side project THE LVRS and Mick's metal instrumental recordings 'Neanderthal' to edit something which would represent the song using various vintage stock footage and religious imagery instead of having the band actually perform," stated vocalist Miss B. "We really love what they came up with. [Even though] it might be misunderstood by some, it definitely fits the song and keeps with the theme of the new album which was very important to us as a band."
Watch the "Religiosity" video below.
The disc also includes the music video for the song "Ready for Blood", directed by Ben Le Vine, with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video along with a mini-movie of MY RUIN with never-before-seen footage of the band in the studio during the recording sessions for the new album as well as a personal photo/video film created by Miss B, titled "Through The Wound", which documents her accident from the injury to her recovery this past year.
"Throat Full of Heart" track listing:
01. Ready For Blood
02. Memento Mori
03. Skeleton Key
04. Me Without You
06. Slide You The Horn
07. Not This Time
08. Dragon Steel
09. Nothing Is Sacred
10. Through The Wound
MY RUIN will hit the UK again in January 2008 for its "Tell Your God Tour" with special guests DIE SO FLUID and PLASTIC TOYS. Kicking off the trek will be a visual/listening record release party in honor of Tairrie B's birthday at The Fly Bar in London on January 18.
Metal-Experience.com recently conducted an interview with SAXON frontman Biff Byford. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Metal-Experience.com: Can we go back to your latest album "The Inner Sanctum" for a moment? What do you think are the main differences between "The Inner Sanctum" and "Lionheart"?
Biff: All the obvious things, really. It's obviously a different album! It's very difficult to pin down. The thing is, we're not predictable, we don't do the same thing over and over again, if you know what I mean, musically, anyway. Lyrically, I do cover the same ground a bit. You can't really tell where we're going with the different styles sometimes. I just think that "Lionheart" was a very British album and "Inner Sanctum" is not. The "Inner Sanctum" album is half rock 'n' roll and half full-on heavy metal and I think we explored that more on this album than we did on "Lionheart". I think we found a unique goal for ourselves there. It has a fresh sound but some of the songs are quite traditional.
Metal-Experience.com: How do you work when you're writing a new album?
Biff: Well, we're usually just banging things around. I have a studio and me and Paul are actually in there at the moment, we're writing songs right now for the next album.
Metal-Experience.com: What is the utmost important ingredient for a SAXON song?
Biff: The first thing we like to get, although we don't always get it, is the guitar riff, the main riff that starts the song. It's always good to have that. It might only last thirty seconds but we like a nice riff to start with! And then basically we'll work it from there, arranging and picking a format. Along the way we'll decide whether it's going to stay in the same feel or the same tempo or whether we're going to branch off and go on to other things. And then I'll be putting melodies on there and the last thing that really goes on are the lyrics.
Metal-Experience.com: How important is it to you that people listen to the lyrics?
Biff: Well, it's quite important. If you're doing a song about something that means something, you know, not just a song about driving cars fast, but something like "Red Star Falling", I think it's important that people listen but whether they do or not, I don't know. I know I don't! (laughs) I'm a vocalist and I usually just listen to the choruses and the first verse, that's it! So I'm just as bad as everybody else. It's just how people are, really. Some people really get off on the lyrics, and some people don't. I get off on writing the lyrics. If I'm doing something that's historic or if I'm writing about something that's important to me, then it matters. I spend a lot of time writing lyrics but I don't know if people actually listen to them. I think maybe people read them in the booklet. Look at some of our older songs, "Crusader", for instance, everybody knows the first verse and the chorus, but does anybody know all the verses? The chorus is usually the thing people remember best, especially with SAXON.
Metal-Experience.com: What's your opinion on the heavy metal scene these days, is there anything missing?
Biff: I think it's great at the moment, actually. Our album sales our going up, we've just been to Japan, which was fantastic and we did a sold-out festival in England. Magazines are selling more, websites are doing well. Our website is up to date now and we do a podcast now and then, you have to not be scared to show how it really is. We're really into that, into the instant thing you can do with your website. You just have to be not too bothered about looking fantastic all the time! In the real world nobody ever does, do they?!

California-based grind metallers CATTLE DECAPITATION have issued the following update:
"We're pleased to inform everyone that David McGraw (ex-SLEEP TERROR) is our new drummer! Things went great with him on the Death By Decibels tour and we will commence writing our next album with him starting next month! Our creative juices are beginning to flow like crazy and we've vowed to create the most ridiculous and insane record yet! We hope to hit the road again in summer in preparation for the recording process!
Australian fans can look forward to seeing us in the later part of 2008! Plans are already being put together for our
first Australian tour! We also hope to hit South America, Mexico and Europe as well sometime in 2008, but for now, writing is our main priority! See you fuckers soon!"
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:
As we near the end of 2007 and my lovely Droogs down under celebrate 2008 already, we back here at the Mustaine House are reflecting on the last year. They are all laughing and joking and I have snuck off to make the last post of this year.
Where do I start? With the excitement of the new record or the disappointment of the empty promises and failure to deliver at so many turns? The electricity of being on tour with young hot new bands and the atmosphere of things to come, or the drone of old school politics on tour and petty production games by the other bands and the other
headliners? The breakthroughs with our line-up, the breakdowns with our crew, or the breakups of our "Cosa Nostra"?
Yessiree, where do I start?
Well, outside of all things Mega, we have had the successful launch of my wife's coffee company Legends Of Cup Coffee, Inc. and that alone will save millions in Starbucks allowance for me, and the brand new baby - TheLiveLine.com - and I am thrilled about its potential! I did have some truly disappointing moments, like when Matsje delivered my fantastic colt Zane this summer, only to die 5 months later from colic. I had a PTSD moment taking me back to Cassandra (my mare that I had before Matsje, who also died - but this time during delivery) from years past, but I was able to walk it out without losing it this time.
And there was the toy drive that the good people of Hasbro, and my bud Elaine had helped me to provide a little relief to the families of San Diego County with little ones who have lost their toys in the fires, and the my management and the church I attend making sure that the Marines and the various churches and the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce had gotten the nearly ten pallets of toys that we were able to purchase with the proceeds of the launch of Legends Cup Coffee.
My partner and bassist, James Lomenzo, has moved down here with his lovely wife Angie and their ubër-kewl daughter Zowie, and we are working quite often in the studio in my house. We have a load of stuff to tell you coming up, but I have to depart to attend to my New Years Eve Guests.
I love you all and please go to the GiganTour.com tonight for the announcement of the line-up for Gigantour 2008 North America, as well as the upcoming
announcement of the line up for the European Tour and the potential Gigantour 2008 UK.
I will be leaving a new message on my "TLL" number
tonight and I will be leaving a very important message you won't want to miss in the next few days.
So, to each and every Droogie around the world, this new year belongs to all of us and let's make this a year that we look back on and say was one of the greatest years of our lives!"
Massachusetts grindcore act THE RED CHORD have issued the following update:
"Check this out. We are bringing the New Year in with a bang. The Red Chord and BARONESS are playing a free show at the Showcase Theatre in Corona on January 9th sponsored by Vice Magazine and Scion (yes, the car company).
The event is invite only. We have roughly a few hundred spots for this event. Sometime Tuesday or Wednesday we will be posting details on how to get into the show. This is going to be pretty awesome so keep an eye peeled on our MySpace page for details."
SEPULTURA have issued the following update:
"We wish you all a Happy New Year, health and success in whatever you do. All the best to you all! We also thank you very much for coming to our shows and for buying our albums, your support means a lot!
We are working on a new album, which will probably be released in the second half of 2008 and Andreas Kisser's first solo-album called Hubris I & II will be out in April.
We will keep you informed about the writing/recording-process of our new album, tour-dates, interviews, etc."
