It has been widely reported across the Internet that Lou Reed passed away yesterday at the age of 71.
Reed was a member of Velvet Underground and also collaborated with metal icons Metallica for the "Lulu" album.
In 1999, Reed snagged a Grammy win for the documentary "Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart."
The cause of death was apparently due to problems with his liver transplant earlier this year. CNN.com reports:
Lou Reed, who took rock 'n' roll into dark corners as a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist for the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist, died Sunday, his publicist said.
The publicist, Peter Noble, confirmed Reed's death but released no details. Reed had undergone a liver transplant in May, his wife, the musician/performance artist Laurie Anderson, disclosed over the summer.
Reed's physician, Charles Miller of the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, has confirmed now that the cause of death was liver disease.
