The Rockstar Ramblings: Rock God Salute
The first new Stryper video in more than 20 years, for the song "No More Hell To Pay", has been released. The song is the title track of their forthcoming studio album 'No More Hell To Pay' and is the band's first new video in more than 20 years.
Stryper had many hit videos during the eighties; FUN FACT: They were the first band to have two top 10 videos at the same time. “Always There For You” was one of their hit videos from the album, ‘In God We Trust.’ The video begins with the band in a helicopter. Remember when videos had budgets and a sense of humor? Yes, I miss those times. They even have a landing pad for the helicopter. I don’t know how long the video shoot lasted, but the phrase “Shimmy, Shimmy, now Work The Hips” must have been used several times. At 0:59 – “This Guy! This is the Guy!” Is that a jumping jack at 1:02? By 1:45 all their good stage moves are already used, we now have to deal with no hand hip shakes and guitar twirling. At 3:26, a monster Michael Sweet vocal that I can only describe using curse words (limited vocabulary) so I won’t today. So, I never knew the answer – does Stryper REALLY like bees? Whenever I saw this band I would always associate them with the Killer Bees tag-team duo from WWF. To me, both were interchangeable…
It doesn’t take long to see that the band has changed. Just seconds into “No More Hell To Pay” you will notice there is no stage, the band now plays in deserts. Also, less hair – or at least less hair spray. A LOT LESS HAIR! Did the drummer show up late? It looks like Robert Sweet was running behind and the band started the shoot without him, leaving him to shoot a side “drum workout” video. 1. The bass drum bench press 2. Twirl the base drum (works the core) 3. Light cymbal and stick work (cardio). Three sets every other day and you too can be a rock and roll drummer! For whatever reason I was never a huge back-in-the-day fan of Stryper, but new Stryper kicks ass! Damn, I almost made it…
